Jigsaw Puzzles: Master Artists of Old

This is a fantastic set of puzzles. Relaxing music in the background enhances the game as well. Great variety of topics will provide hours of fun!

I was amazed when I saw this game was "Free" Being a jigsaw freek I happily added it to my library. When starting it up for the first time I thought I'd won the lottery. Who, in their right mind would give this amazing game away for nothing? I wondered.. Unfortunately my dreams of Jigsaw heaven were quickly shattered. This must be the only puzzle game which refuses to let you build outside the box or even inside it, unless one of the tiles are in exactly the correct position, or in the case of the edge pieces actually at the edge. Seeing similar colours not in those positions simply won't register. Whilst it doesn't kill the game, it does make life darned awkward. Then there;s the options list, or rather the lack of it. There's only one option and I've tried it enabled and disabled, but it makes no difference, in fact I haven't a clue what it even means. Whilst I'm all for "keeping it simple" this game goes to the extreme. Gone is the ghost picture, rotation, or a multitude number of tiles. You have 3 types of game, Easy, Medium and Hard. If you have bad eyesight like me, forget all about the hard option. Whilst there are a few bugs in the system, they didn't wreck the game, although I came close to walking away from one of the medium games when I lost 2 tiles. I spent over 30 minutes trying to find the darned things. If you lose any simply save and quit the game then hit continue. The game will reload and the missing pieces will show up. By the way, the tiles snap to a set grid and if the tiles are of the same shape and snap to the same spot, one of them is hidden behind the other. I found ir best to move every piece before even starting to play. I get the impression the designer/ programmer of the game decided to make it as hard as possible and they succeeded 120%. Perhaps this is what you've been looking for after playing those option infested Jigsaw puzzles. Finally, the art is good, but there's no way I'd call them high resolution. Even art from the 17th century can be hi-res, but what these puzzles lack in resolution they definitely make up for with numbers.
