First look at gamplay here: https://youtu.be/I1qWKGBal3s While I did receive this game for free I would have bought it in a second. The look alone is worth the $3 but the soundtrack is amazing and while the gameplay doesn't revolutionize the infinite runner genre, this game carves its own mark with the aesthetic and style of the original Game Boy. I still have more time to put in but for a first impression its worth the $3!
PROS: ✔️A fast-paced runner with simple one-button controls that builds upon a solid formula with nostalgic retro graphics, a great soundtrack, a leaderboard, and a variety of unlocks including: - characters - color themes - new levels - steam achievements By far one of the more robust and fully featured runners on the market, Jack B. Nimble excels in what draws players to the genre while adding unique touches that push it far beyond its competition. CONS: ❌The level unlocks can be a bit demanding for those who aren't pros in the runner genre, so you'll likely be playing the same level for quite some time. Luckily, the massive amount of unlocks and the inclusion of achievements helps in feeling like progress is being made, even when you're grinding to build the impressive skills needed to get that next big reward. The retro color scheme may cause eye-fatigue for some players.

Great little gem of a game, Nice side scroller. Graphics are identical to that you would see on a gameboy color. Soundtrack and effects replicate the good old days. Basically your Jack! your mission? Whip the candlesticks and run as fast as you can and long as possible, without falling or hitting walls. The game grades your score with distance, candles, and accuracy. You get to play on diferent levels as you progress and increase your overall total score, as well as unlock different skins that are versions of the character. all in all I would say this game is pretty fun, great time killer, I played it for a few hours and for whatever reason, steam did not record the time cause I was offline? Only way I could think of for it doing what it did. But help support this developer by buying the game, they truly do have a gift of capturing the classic era and may be inspired to continue developing even further on this game or different ones.
Wonderful game with awesome chiptunes! Definitely inspired by: 1. Castlevania, with its music and whipping mechanics against candles 2. The on-rails platformer levels in Super Mario Bros. 3 3. The speed of Sonic the Hedgehog All of this makes for great gameplay based on judgment and relfex-based button presses. It's a simple game, but it has a lot of value despite its simplicity.
Love the gameboy Asthetic. And where can I get my hands on the snow mountains theme? I want to listen to it without panicking I'll die any second
It's a fun game with classic Gameboy vibes, but this time it's 4K capable instead of a small DOT Matrix screen The developer Sean Noonan is a great guy as well currently working on a new title called SENTRY by Fireblade Software which is a retro shooter
Very fun and addicting game. Love the old school graphics and music too. Would recommend.
very nice visuals, simple, great soundtrack!
Really cute endless runner with a distinctive gimmick: the whip, activated in midair to try and extinguish any candle on the path, as they are essential to multiply the final score; just managing to not fall as long as possible doesn't cut it. Even before that gimmick is revealed, the homages to Castlevania are clear, with a couple of 8-bit styled tracks being outright remixes of famous music from the Konami franchise. The Game Boy inspired graphics are nice, and the unlockable palettes are quite faithful to the different "styles" of the old Nintendo portable we are used to, including the 4-color palettes of the Super Game Boy accessory. I don't know if it happened randomly or because of specific conditions, but at some points I got a "What a horrible night to have a curse..." message, folllowed by having to play with a Virtual Boy palette - cursed indeed. The first few unlocks come fairly easily and are a nice way to rope the player in, as the requirements for the rest ramp up. However, I have to question the way the Rocky Rapids level is generated: far too often crates are placed unfairly, smack in the middle of fairly narrow platforms, with an easy chance to either land just behind the crate, or manage to land on top or on the other side, only to not have enough time for the physical reaction necessary for another jump before falling from the platform. It's jarring because the levels unlocked beforehand, besides occasional passages with too many narrow platforms in a row, feel much more fair. Even if one isn't interested in setting some record, it's a perfect little time waster.
