that really is the whole game
It does what it says on the tin. Took me 3 runs and 1.5 hours to secure a victory. I had a good time and will keep it installed in case the urge for a mini dungeon crawl strikes again.
Not enjoyable to me, personally. The gameplay is boring, the battles take away so much of your HP and MP and don't leave you enough money to buy enough items. I know the blinding white background and menu is supposed to be nostalgic but it's moreso annoying. My final nitpick is there's no 'quit game' button on the title screen
great game, needs some heavy QoL and the entry barrier is not for everyone, having to read all the skills and stats of your party makes every run really hard to start, but once started oh boy this is some damn good stuff! I really hope the dev one day return to polish this little gem, it's unfortunate how little people tried it so far... Big thanks to The Crawl for introducing me to this game. Edit: some run can be really short, and with some party composition it can be really easy, still, good stuff.
This is definitely an odd one, but the developer's whole oeuvre is odd, high effort games, and this is a good entry point. In Six Random Characters, you're playing a single floor dungeon with a semi-randomized party. Characters start as class + race packages, and each package is intrinsically balanced. So, for example, you might get a slime that has high starting stats but can't equip gear. Or you might get a doomsayer that has damage over time magics. Or you might get what I did: an arrogant mummy lord with high hp, no evasion, high aggro, and the inability to heal. The goal of the game is to figure out how to use your party, and then somehow get them over the finish line and through the very hard final boss fight to safety. It's a pure logistical challenge, but it's an interesting one. There are a *lot* of unique spells and pieces of equipment, and playing this feels like playing an SMT game for the first time. Starting in the middle. On someone else's save file. In other words, it's an exercise in sight-reading rpg information and learning how to work with a system that's new to you. It's not unfairly punishing---frankly some character combinations look like they have the potential to be busted---but it *is* definitely a challenge. I don't think this will be everyone's jam, but if you're like me and one of your favorite parts of an rpg is learning how to break its mechanics, I think you'll enjoy this.
Nice one

"It's Six Random Characters and a Single Floor Dungeon, That's the Whole Game" Rating: 3.5 Stars (out of 5) The Good: Pure, Unfiltered Nostalgia: If you grew up dreaming of classic dungeon crawlers, this game scratches that itch with a charmingly retro aesthetic and straightforward premise. Randomness as a Feature, Not a Flaw: Every run is a fresh chaos fest — with six characters, 105 classes, and 28 races, no two adventures feel quite the same. It’s like playing dungeon roulette with a party of your own creation. References Galore: Fans of JRPGs and old-school RPGs will enjoy spotting all the cheeky nods and callbacks peppered throughout the game. From familiar class archetypes to obscure monster designs, it's a love letter to RPG nerds. Short and Sweet: You can knock out a run in around 30 minutes, making it perfect for a quick escape from reality. Just don’t get too attached to your characters — they’re as disposable as your last deployment. The Bad: Visuals and UI: The 3D view is about as user-friendly as a foggy night patrol — hard to see where you're going without squinting. The white menus and high contrast can be a painful flashbang. RNG Overload: The game’s randomness can be brutal. Some runs are a breeze, others feel like a brutal test of patience, especially since there's no save system mid-run. Expect to die a lot, especially to the boss who seems to spawn right after you get comfortable. Learning Curve: With 105 spells, 6 classes, and 6 races, every starting loadout feels like a test. Remembering what each spell does (or doesn’t do) is a chore, not a feature. Difficulty Spikes & Frustration: Some bosses or random encounters can feel unfair, with enemies spam-spamming skills or ganking your key characters. Prepare for some salt. The Verdict: If you’re a fan of retro dungeon crawlers, enjoy the chaos of roguelikes, and don’t mind a steep learning curve, this game offers a fun, if unpolished, romp through pixelated mayhem. It’s a love-it-or-hate-it kind of game, leaning heavily on RNG and nostalgia. Expect to die, laugh, and maybe even curse the developers for their bold, no-saves approach. Would I recommend it? For die-hard RPG fans looking for a quick, quirky challenge — absolutely. For those seeking polished visuals and balanced difficulty — maybe look elsewhere. But if you’re in the mood for a silly, reference-filled dungeon dive with a friend’s sense of humor, this game might just be your next guilty pleasure. Final Thought: It’s a game that wears its simplicity on its pixelated sleeve but hides a surprising amount of strategy behind randomness and chaos. Just don’t expect a smooth ride — expect an unpredictable, nostalgic rollercoaster through the depths of a single-floor hell.
