if you like strange dream-like experiences and surreal art, this is for you. if you don't like clicking and you want actual gameplay, this is not for you.
10 very beautiful, dream-like vignettes of liminal spaces
缺乏游戏性,虽然艺术设计很有趣,但感觉还是不太符合我的胃口,也很难看出它想展示的是什么东西。
A fun experience. Less of a "game" and more of an interactive art piece. I found it memorable and peaceful. If you like liminal spaces, this game has em.
The label of "interactive art installation" fits as there is little "gameplay" to speak of, just clicking a few hotspots for the scene to go on, and that's it. The graphics are minimal and stark-looking, transforming mundane places and objects into surreal environments, much like those dreams that happen in familiar setups. There is little to say, because the impression this title can leave on a user is extremely subjective. I found something haunting yet relaxing in it. I recommend checking the website of creator Carl Burton, especially his animated GIFs, some of which look like they were the inspiration for ISLANDS.
A highly unusual "game" and commentary on the many non-spaces we inhabit without taking note or seeing. The audio heightens this sense of disjuncture between the human elements and jarring sounds, flooding and air raid sirens in what seems to be a hotel lobby, cash registers, soda cans again and again and again and a sudden underwater scene of serenity and peace. The most powerful for me so far, was non-space 5. There is also a prevailing atmosphere of non-presence, somehow missing the moment. Sometimes attention to a plant growing out of a crack, becomes the opposite of mundane, but rather a moment of life, beauty and strength. Often we exist in the past and future, but rarely live in the present.:bag_of_gold:
It's more of a series of virtual art installations than an actual game, which I'd normally be all up for, but this one is simply boring und didn't bring anything of aesthetic or artistic value to the table. The style is dull and unintersting, the portrayed objects and events seem way too random to carry any form of meaning and everything happens irritatingly slowly. It's a very short experience and it still felt like it was purposefully wasting my time.
Its a really creative game. Short but worth the price
what did i just play, carl burton?
