Completely abandoned by the dev, Who spends most his time posting cat photos on Reddit, Hes now started a new project and a new game called "IronStrike" Safe to say hes completely abandoned this game with zero intentions to do anything with it, The playerbase is all but dead and riddled with the same bugs it always has been.
Developers gave up on this gem. Dead game. DO NOT BUY
My favorite VR sword fighting game. Optimization is excellent, gameplay is fun, community is nice, and you find matches even at the middle of the night on work days because it is cross play with the oculus store.
The best VR swordfighting game i've played in a while, though it is kind of dead. But you shouldn't find trouble in finding someone to fight though, it aint that dead. I would love to see some more updates because this game has a huge potential.
Reloading a sword is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumbest idea ever.
Best sword VR game hands down 100% fight with Honor brave warriors and rest well in the hall of Valhalla
Easily one of the best VR PvP experiences. Some of the best fun I've ever had. Unfortunately not very active anymore, though there is a small but dedicated Discord community to get involved with that are often happy to matchmake.
This game is awesome. I have spoken. Edit: Other reviews sometimes talk about how some classes are OP in multiplayer but i beat em' just fine :\ . the complaint about the play area being too big is spot on tho.
Ironlights is a virtual reality dueling game created by E McNeill that sets itself apart from most VR melee titles through a combat system built on restraint, timing, and tactical awareness rather than chaotic motion. At first glance it may appear to be another sword-fighting arena experience, but within moments it becomes clear that its design philosophy is fundamentally different. Instead of rewarding wild swings or constant pressure, the game introduces a striking mechanic where weapons shatter on contact and must be recharged by pulling them back behind the player. This single idea transforms combat into a deliberate exchange of measured attacks, blocks, and feints. Every swing carries commitment, and every defensive move must be calculated. The result is a dueling system that feels almost like a blend of fencing, chess, and cinematic slow-motion action. The pacing of combat is one of Ironlights’ greatest strengths. Rather than operating in full-speed chaos, engagements frequently transition into controlled slow-motion phases that allow players to read body positioning, weapon arcs, and potential openings. This design choice makes fights feel dramatic and tactical rather than physically exhausting. Because weapons break after connecting, players cannot simply mash attacks; they must think about sequencing, positioning, and baiting their opponent into mistakes. Victory often comes from manipulating timing and controlling space rather than brute force. The emphasis on anticipation gives duels a tense, almost psychological layer, where predicting an opponent’s intention becomes just as important as physical execution. Class variety further enriches the experience. Ironlights offers multiple combat archetypes, each with unique weapons, defensive tools, and playstyles. The Knight, for example, wields a heavy blade and shield, encouraging measured, powerful strikes and solid defense. The Duelist uses a lighter rapier and buckler, favoring precision and quick redirections. Other classes introduce ranged or unconventional weapons that significantly alter engagement dynamics. Learning each class is not merely about mastering different weapons but understanding entirely new tactical frameworks. This variety extends the game’s longevity, as switching classes can make familiar opponents feel completely new again. Beyond mechanics, Ironlights excels in accessibility and comfort, both critical aspects of VR design. Movement systems are streamlined to reduce motion sickness, and the intuitive control scheme allows newcomers to grasp the basics quickly. At the same time, depth emerges naturally through practice. The game avoids overwhelming players with complex button combinations, instead focusing on physical motion and spatial awareness. This balance makes it inviting for VR newcomers while still offering meaningful mastery for experienced players seeking competitive depth. Visually, Ironlights embraces a stylized, slightly cartoonish aesthetic rather than striving for hyper-realism. Character models are expressive and readable, which is especially important in a dueling game where body language communicates intent. The arenas are clean and functional, prioritizing clarity over clutter so that players can focus entirely on their opponent. While the presentation may not push graphical boundaries, it complements the gameplay by ensuring that combat information is always clear and readable in the headset. Multiplayer is where Ironlights truly shines. Facing real human opponents elevates the tactical tension significantly. Human unpredictability creates dynamic duels that feel personal and reactive. Each match becomes a mind game of feints, baiting, and split-second adaptation. Even small adjustments in timing or positioning can swing the outcome. The ranked and casual modes provide different avenues for engagement, allowing both competitive players and casual duelists to find a comfortable environment. Because the core combat loop is so refined, repeated matches rarely feel stale; instead, they become opportunities to refine strategy and psychological awareness. There are, however, limitations worth noting. As a focused dueling experience, Ironlights does not offer expansive exploration or narrative depth. Its arenas, while effective, are relatively simple, and those seeking a broader RPG-style progression system may find the scope modest. The player base, like many VR multiplayer titles, can fluctuate depending on time and region. Yet these constraints feel more like the natural boundaries of a specialized competitive game rather than shortcomings in execution. Ultimately, Ironlights stands out as one of the more thoughtful and intelligently designed VR combat games available. It resists the temptation to equate intensity with speed and instead builds tension through precision, anticipation, and deliberate mechanics. The weapon-breaking system alone redefines how virtual sword fighting can feel, transforming what might have been a standard arena fighter into a deeply strategic dueling simulator. For players who appreciate tactical combat, psychological mind games, and the immersive presence of VR, Ironlights offers an experience that feels both elegant and exhilarating, proving that innovation in VR does not require complexity—only a strong, focused design philosophy executed with care.
