This title has no in-game instructions or tutorial whatsoever. You just pick a campaign and play it, and the game is too complex for that at least for me. If you look at their forum you'll see I'm not the only one. I tried this before a couple of years ago and had the same impression but didn't leave a review - but apparently they're intending to release a sequel to this and I want to use this review to tell them that, hey, this is the 21st century and tutorials are expected now in all but the most basic of games.
Absolute utter waste of drive space and time.
This game simulates the naval campaign of a lesser-known conflict between Peru and Chile. I believe Bolivia also was involved but can’t remember on which side (though they lost their Pacific access). Gameplay is not that intuitive, and without some guides likely to be frustrating at times. Still seems a decent enough game. Also, I got it for $1, so, I’m not too disappointed…
DÜT DÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜÜT
Waste of time and money. Bought the entire package none were any good. The only nice thing I can say is none of them crashed. Poor instructions, Incomprehensible screens. Games were were so bad I deleted all of them from library after 4 days.
Interesting war, interesting scenario ...
Ironclads 2: War of the Pacific is a naval scenario set in the War of the Pacific (1879 - 1883) between Chile and Peru and Bolivia. It comes with two campaigns: Chile and Peru. I completed the two campaigns with Chile and Peru, playing Chile as more offensive and Peru as more defensive. I found Peru more challenging and having a though time against some chilean ships, specially casemate ships such as Blanco but with a good strategy it can be successfully completed easily. In the good side I would mention: (1) the variety of ships and beautiful ship models, (2) good AI, (3) a variety of options in the strategy map and ship command individually and in formations, (4) interesting history period, not previously covered in other games. In the bad side I would say: (1) the lack of custom battles, which would be a great feature to play battles with a variety of ship formations and to get familiar with each ship type as well as an interesting gameplay, (2) the lack of historical battles, which would also be a nice addition to have the opportunity to play the interesting historical scenarios the Battle of Angamos (1879) and Iquique (1879). I would really encourage developers to include custom battles and historical battles in new releases. Overall I liked the game and there are not other options out there besides Totem Games releases to play naval games with Ironclads, a fascinating naval period because of ship design evolution and technological improvements over 19th century. I recommend this game to anyone interested in this period and War of the Pacific.
На удивление интересная тема "войны за птичьи какашки". Вся серия Ironclads 2 - это по сути своей настольная игра. Отсюда сильные и слабые стороны.
The game is super basic and linear, played the main campaign through in a couple of hours and that's it, won't play again and wouldn't recommend to anyone: total waste of money.
The UI and thinking behind the map interface is abysmal.
