A Long, Wonderful Experience
Ignore my playtime, I've got 100 hours on this game pre-Steam release. Story The story in this game is quite involved, with interesting twists and turns at every corner. I've played a lot of games in this...uhh..."category"...and I'll say this is one of the only ones where I was playing for both the plot and the "art" at the same time. Every character has their own personality and they act accordingly, which makes everything feel very believable even in a game like this. I honestly would say that this game has one of the best stories not only in lewd RPGMaker games, but across all of them. Gameplay Wonderfully deep gameplay mixed with a sliding difficulty scale and in-depth character progression allows you to handle situations in a variety of fun and exciting ways. The mix of different weapon and element types combined with combo skills and fun items makes the combat in this game a step above almost all other games in the genre. Also, because the difficulty can be chosen (3 Options) you can tailor the experience to how you would like to play. If you're a glutton for challenge, I will say that the highest difficulty is not for the feint of heart, and you should be ready to really understand the intricacies of combat within the game. Characters This game spans the entire gambit when it comes to character archetypes, with there be at least one character for everyone's taste. The hotheaded main character, the airhead, the yandere-degenerate, it goes on and on. I have no doubt that you'll attach yourself to one of the characters quite quickly, as their quirks are both endearing and
lewd
. Overall Please, give this game a try, it's one of the best games on the market in this category in my opinion. The developer that made this game has many other releases of similar quality that are all just begging to be put on Steam as well. If you explore and read all the dialog in this game it's over 25 hours, yes 25! That's an amazing value for money. Plus, for those of you that are after the more spicy content, there are over 100 unique H-Scenes in this game, all amazingly written and drawn...and completely uncensored with no mosaics! Trust me, this game is a must buy for anyone who enjoy games of this type! Don't forget to download the patch!

The narrative intricately weaves dark fantasy with urban life, while the combat system adds a layer of strategic depth through turn-based mechanics and Guardian Stones, which alter the skills and elemental affinities of your party. With a plethora of adult content and character-driven storytelling, this game stands out in its genre. Although the game features dark elements like tentacle rape and other forms of humiliation, it doesn’t take on an overly sinister tone, balancing these with a more lighthearted and sexualized portrayal of the female characters.

[th]🎮Gameplay:[/th]

🏙️ City Exploration: Explore the modern city of Mangetsu to locate mysterious portals leading to dangerous parallel worlds, uncovering secrets and battling supernatural creatures. ⚔️ Turn-Based Combat: Engage in tactical, turn-based battles. The plot delves into the relationship between modern society and the creeping threat of an alternate dimension filled with erotic horrors. Throughout the game, players make key decisions that affect the characters’ fates and the unfolding of the story. The richly developed world, paired with engaging character arcs, offers a deep and immersive narrative experience.

[th]🔞Adult Content:[/th]

"Into the Nightmare" offers over 80 base CGs and 100+ H-events, prominently featuring explicit interspecies sex, tentacle encounters, lesbian (Yuri) relationships, and futanari. A significant portion of the erotic content occurs when the heroines lose battles against supernatural creatures, leading to non-consensual scenes with tentacles and other monsters. Additionally, a corruption mechanic affects the heroines' progression, with increasing corruption unlocking darker, more explicit content. These scenes are integrated into the game naturally, offering a blend of consensual and non-consensual themes that match the darker tone without becoming overly oppressive. All H-scenes can be revisited after completing the game, providing extensive replayability for players seeking a balance between narrative and adult content.

[th]🏆Verdict:[/th]

"Into the Nightmare" offers a beautifully designed world that’s expansive without being overwhelming. The city of Mangetsu is filled with interesting interactions, and I particularly enjoyed being able to explore it between missions. Walking around, talking to characters, and even taking baths add those small, enjoyable details that make the world feel alive. During these intermissions, upgrading skills and equipment was another aspect I appreciated, adding strategic depth to the gameplay. The graphics are stunning, with each heroine having unique outfits that get damaged as they take hits, adding an immersive layer to combat. The environments are diverse, taking you from the streets of the city to eerie dream worlds, and the story itself is captivating, keeping me engaged throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with "Into the Nightmare" and would love to play more games like this. It’s a game I highly recommend, especially for fans of Yuri themes and tentacle content, but the mix of adventure, story, and strategy makes it appealing to a broader audience beyond its adult themes.

[th]✅Good:[/th]

👍 Immersive blend of modern city exploration and dark supernatural worlds. 👍 Engaging turn-based combat with Guardian Stones adding tactical variety. 👍 Well-integrated adult content with a mix of Yuri, tentacles, and futanari. 👍 Replayability through exploration, side content, and collecting Guardian Stones. 👍 Uncensored H-scenes covering a wide range of fetishes, fully replayable.

[th]🛠️Ways of Improvement:[/th]

👎 Deeper interactivity in H-scenes for enhanced player engagement. 👎 Additional exploration areas and more side activities to expand the city’s depth.

Overall, it's a pretty good game. It's refreshing to see something that's actually enjoyable to play for >2hrs in the Hgenre. The lack of settings throws me off though, most all customization is done by talking to npcs, none of them being obvious so you gotta run around and figure it out. This is also an issue with finding your next task if you forget, there's no mission screen or anything similar, just gotta talk to the npcs and piece it together. That aside, everything else is easy enough to get familiar with. The character builds are pretty easy going, and still complex enough to feel like it's not just a matter of pumping exp to get stronk. Each character has a unique slot for their build, which you unlock individually throughout the game, things like changing their class type to Fire, and utilizing high physical attack skills, or to Holy and utilizing party buffs and such. But each unique item to change those builds is few and far between, each only being useful to 1 of your 4 members, so it could be 4 bosses later before member #1 gets their 2nd class item. The H aspects of the game (gotta get kaguras patch) are... Eh. It's almost like they made an attempt to cater to every audience, but only lightly to each kink. And I mean... everything. Very little I haven't heard about that's not in there, so not gonna bother listing it all. But among the heavy themes, definitely a lot of FxF and solo F, and combat contains primarily tentacles. The recollection area is rather large, but mostly covered by part 1, 2, & 3 skits. There are Hstats too... but... what for? Lose one battle to see one member got off 126 times from the defeat scene, and nothing noticeably changed. It's mentioned that they are more vulnerable to Hattacks when their hstats are high, and they get more access to Hskills, but I can't really see the correlation in practice. The skills are lackluster to the base ones too, minus the sick cello solo you can play on your bean mid fight. Did I mention this game is long? Really long for the price on it. It honestly surprised me that after like 14 bosses I was still missing another chunk of the main map, and even after I got that next chunk it still kept going. Constantly thrown into new dungeons, which also surprisingly all had different enemies with different skills and attributes, no reskins or nothing. However... the hattacks are still so common and typically all the same, you forget they have like a frost spell or something sometimes. The cameos are pretty good too, get to beat up snow ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, the PAINTING WORLD OF ARIAMIS, and the three goons on the yellow brick road too.
If you want tentacle sex, this is the game for you. This is a top tier game from the Kagura publisher. I generally don't care for turned based combat, but sexual content is weaved into the mechanics so I found myself really enjoying this. There are far more h-scenes than I expected and a reasonable range of straight, lesbian and monster sex. I played the game on the hardest difficulty and recommend that you don't unless you want a serious final challenge (keep all your best potions for it). I wish all published Kagura games had this quality. I would gladly pay for DLC for this game.
Overall, I really liked this game, enough to play through it almost twice (once originally in Japanese for about 60%, and later on this release full cleared). It has world building and entertaining character interactions at levels you don't often find in most RPGs, while being competent throughout. Don't play this game without the external patch, it's a mess and virtually unplayable without it. I got about 2 hours in out of curiosity but man, they didn't even care enough to have even remotely believable tilesets in some areas, and almost all the interesting character interaction is removed. Also poor Yue never gets pictured from the neck down. The strongest points of Into the Nightmare are the investments into the main and supporting characters, with lots of development and relationships between various characters getting explored. The writing trends humorous and is actually fairly good (by H-game standards, anyways), with a fair bit of effort put into building interesting lore with consistent internal logic for things you wouldn't expect like why the recollection gallery exists. Overall you get to dive into a pretty detailed crafted world, while the character interactions keep scenes interesting, with not too much gameplay interspersed to break things up. There are a lot of sideplots and sidequests which get threaded into the main story that add variety as well, and it's all done in a way that is more immersive than your typical H-RPG. I'd go as far to say that the side-content is the main draw of the game and where the bulk of character development and interactions are contained. Unfortunately, the main story does meander a bit and gets nonsensical at times, but the individual threads in each arc/area are interesting enough to keep you engaged as you go. The gameplay itself is actually quite satisfying and difficult enough on the "normal" difficulty to keep the player engaged, with enough challenge to give the player reason to care about the various powerups and abilities. There's plenty of equipment variety to understand and tune for the various boss challenges, as well as a fairly diverse set of abilities and items to give the player options to craft different strategies. The Guardian Stone class system lets you switch in and out of classes as needed to build parties suited for different playstyles, and unlocking new stones serves as good rewards for main and side content throughout the game. Also, it's pretty cool that they've given the Guardian Stone spirits their own designs that go thematically with their offered kits. On the "hard" difficulty prepare to need to prep for every boss and optimize strategies, as the game can get quite challenging. Fortunately, there are many QoL features including avoidable enemy encounters, shortcut warp unlocks, ability to retreat from most battles and areas quickly, save anywhere, more or less centrally located NPCs for common tasks like equipment synthesis, and no sudden Game Overs. Thus, you don't often feel like you're struggling against the game's design, but the actual bosses the game challenges you with. Graphically, the character sprites are the main focus, with actions and various states in battle being accompanied by sprite changes and simple animation. There's also a decent variety of standing sprites and expressions, which helps bring the cast to life both in battle and in story scenes. Art quality won't really blow you away but it's detailed enough considering this is a 640x480 game. Otherwise, there's a lot of typical RPGmaker sprite and animation fare offered. The sound design while fitting, is pretty generic and forgettable. The H-events are illustrated well enough, but the art style is not exactly noteworthy on its own. There is, however a lot of variety. The game has a lot of trap-type events, with each event type having 3 escalating levels of intensity to keep things from getting overly repetitive. A nice touch is the character involved in each trap will comment on the trap experience in the recollection gallery, fleshing out their characters even further (through ero traps, yes) Spread throughout the game there are sequential scenes that slowly escalate as you view progress through each spaced out event in the chain, giving a more believable and satisfying sense of progression as the girls become lewder and lewder as they continue to get exposed to the corrupting aura of the nightmares. While the main focuses are certainly A. yuri and B. tentacles, there's also a lot of other fetishes explored but most I found to be well done enough to be not off-putting, but your mileage may vary. It does help that in each scene the girl typically very quickly gets in the mood, so everyone involved is having a good time. The recollection gallery gives you hints as to where to get each event, so it's not too hard to fully unlock all events. Translation is mostly good, I don't really have complaints. Although some choices like "metal", which is mainly electric element, can be confusing, it's easily one of the more competent jobs I've seen. Even with this review I don't really think I can do justice to how much care and attention to detail has gone into making this game enjoyable, so check it out for yourself. For 25-ish hours of content, it's well worth the 15 USD price tag, and will no doubt go on sale now and then as well.
Easily in my top 5, worth every penny! Enjoyable battle system where lewdness is rewarded with additional naughty team-up attacks and powerful lewd moves. Each character discovers or develops various preferences which is explored throughout the story. There's lots of lewd content, but if you don't like tentacles, lesbians, d!ck girls, pee play, (monster/beast) pregnancy, it may not be for you. (There's even a combat move involving urine.) The art style is super cutesy, though, so even if it's not your 'cup of tea', it's adorable art. I especially enjoy the lack of r@pe, these monsters typically want to make the girls feel good... and impregnate them. The girls tend to explore their sexualities rather than it being forced upon them. The lewd city missions (for 'crafting materials') is basically 'fan service' where the girls get naughty with others to 'help them'. But, yes, recommend, even at full price, this game earns it!

FYI: 90% of the H scenes are yuri, futa, tentacles, p** fetish, preggo and so forth. Very minimal hooman H scenes. TLDR: An intriguing piece of RPGmaker that expands into the territory of dreams and nightmares. The lore itself is superb and the story keeps you tied on your seat wandering what will happen next. Battles can be quite tedious but the difficult scales up really well especially if you are playing on the Nightmare difficutly. H scenes are pretty okay, still images, no moans but has some degree of SFX... and it has a lot of weird fetish in there, so you have been notified. A certain someone (Shxx Laxxxx) once shouted fanatically "make youd dreams come true!" but little did that person knows... it is better not to make certain dream comes true! Into the Nightmare takes place in a small town of Mangetsu (Full Moon), where Dream Worlds are corroding the reality and spreading lewd auro onto the populace. It is up to our 4 brave heroine to take up arms and fight these terrible Nightmares and send them back to where they belong. This is a RPGmaker that requires a lot of grinding (if you are playing on higher difficulties). The class system is pretty unique with each heroine taking up a certain role to turn the tide against unsuspecting foes. Though most of the time with extremely high level, you can simply storm the gate and leave nothing but corpses behind. One thing I dislike about some battle is that even at max level, enemies can still deal high damage using "lewd" attacks... other than that nothing too fussy. H scenes are your typical still images, though as mentioned earlier... there are A LOT of yuri, futa and other weird kinds scenes. If you are not into this kind of stuff, feel free to step away. Scenes does not have moans but just SFX (like getting pound by tentacle). Overall it does get your things up to the sky and rain down creams onto your palm. Overall pretty recommended. Amazing game. Combat can get grindy on nightmare. Would recommend doing NG+ and then doing nightmare. Other then that with the patch amazing animations in combat and a ton of hscenes. I am only about 35% through as well. I would say grab this. Its no magical girl Celesphonia but it scratches an itch. Also very easy to play one handed.
