About

Inside the Backrooms is a Co-op online horror game up to 4 players, where you and your friends will fight to escape from the different levels of the backrooms, solving different puzzles with different mechanics in each one.
This game is based on the famous creepypasta with many real references implemented such as iconic entities and important elements. You will have to explore each room, look for elements that help you to continue advancing throughout the game and unlock new areas, but the further you go, more dangerous it will be, you must pay close attention in the area, identify each entity and know how to avoid them if you want to survive.
Look for supplies, store them in your inventory, explore all the rooms, solve puzzles, unlock areas of the map, interact, try to collect everything you find.
The main objective of Inside the Backrooms is to engage players with its gameplay, difficulty and atmosphere. There are countless identical rooms with an old, dirty carpet and pale yellowish walls, where at first glance it gives you a gloomy and bad feeling where you realize that it is not a safe place.
The game currently has 5 levels, each level is huge and is designed to be more difficult than the previous one and each one with different puzzles and mechanics.
There are also 2 secret mini levels that will lead you to a secret ending..
In this game you will find several entities, currently 6 entities, all based on the original creepypasta, each entity will have different ways of attacking and manifesting, so it will be important to know it's behavior of each of these and avoid at all costs that several entities finds you at the same time, if this happens, you will have a bad time.
Inside the Backrooms has a lot of diverse, interesting and entertaining puzzles, from simple ones to the complex and laborious, they are carefully elaborated with the purpouse of being solved both individually and cooperatively, in addition to this, to make the puzzles more dynamic and attractive, in each new game the solution of all of them changes, which means that it wont be always the same answer! so test your puzzle resolution skills and try to escape from this terrifying place full of mysteries.
If you want to survive in the backrooms you will need to look for essential items and manage them properly, because if you get short of any of them, it could mean your death.
These are some of the items you can find on your journey through the backrooms:
Almond Water: Regenerate part of life.
Pills: Eliminate Anxiety
Radios: Allows communication at a distance with your team
Flashlight: Allows you to see in dark areas.
Protection Suit: Allows you to prevent getting radiation on some areas.
Documents and Notes: Provides relevant information.
Here are some of the current features of the game:

Great game love it

I think I still recommend this game overall, but there is certainly a pattern in the levels that doesn’t go unnoticed as time has gone on. Let’s show this with a tier list of the levels (the version noted is when I originally played them – a bunch have had redesigns that I may have missed): S tier: Dark Rooms (v0.1) – This solidifies to me what this game is about – a large level that requires some back and forth to find everything and connect the puzzles together, and caution for enemies on the way. Tricky on first playthrough but rewarding. Terror Hotel (v0.3) – This environment is so immersive and it’s my second favourite backrooms level across the games I’ve played. All the puzzles fit well and running into hotel rooms to hide from enemies is a blast, genuinely. I heard the skinwalker has been removed, which seems unnecessary to me, but I'm sure it's still a great level. A tier: Abandoned Office (v0.5) – Again I love feeling immersed in this office environment. There was one confusing puzzle to do with visiting rooms in a certain order, but I enjoyed the rest. I feel like I’d love to see a school/college dormitory sort of level similarly. Parking (v0.5) – I’m colour blind and I recall there was a puzzle here that I couldn’t properly do, but my team could sort it. There's also a puzzle which we ended up brute forcing accidentally, something where you're meant to go and get a protective suit but we repeatedly ran in and died to open up the way instead. Apart from that, it’s solid. Fun Level (v0.2) – I can’t remember this one much as I’ve only played it once a few years back, but it was solid. I understand it’s been redesigned twice since then. B tier: Grassrooms (v0.4) – On the other hand, this environment feels less “real” to me so it’s hard to be immersed, but I appreciate its weirdness. It has some frustrating parts with the plant monsters, but the puzzles are solid. Train Station (v0.7) – Only just played this one, and it has potential. A weird criticism would be that the elevator feels like it unnecessarily splits the level (I could hear my team chatting on the floors beneath me and it was confusing getting back to them at times). One minor note would be that it feels too realistic as a train station, rather than a backrooms interpretation of a train station. Could do with ticket booths stuck half inside walls or a million back areas recurring. D tier: Sewerage (v0.3) – This is my least favourite of the classic levels, because it’s just slightly too big and hard to know where to go. It’s fine to have a couple of times where the next goal is uncertain so exploring is needed, but this happened over and over, so it was close to two hours to finish this level, even on replays. I need to play the latest version of this level to see if it’s better now. F tier: Poolrooms (v0.7) – This isn’t really what this game is about to me at all. It’s linear, the puzzles aren’t interesting and there are no threats. It feels like this game lately tried to go more towards the Escape the Backrooms style, rather than keeping its own identity, which is a real shame. And yes, I love Escape the Backrooms too, but it’s nice to have this different version (my friends would always refer to this as “the one with the long levels” when distinguishing the two). There are also visual bugs and tables with no hitboxes and needlessly AI-generated drawings which make the whole thing feel lower standard than the rest of the game. Shame as I normally love a good pool level. Run for Live (v0.5) – Again this feels like an homage to Escape the Backrooms, but it’s more frustrating – the shadow man is very tricky to dodge, and the way it goes realistically is whoever is in the lead is sacrificed to the shadow man, so the people behind get through that part. It doesn’t belong in this game in my opinion. Perhaps it could be a fun interlude if it was more straightforward. Caves (v0.6) – This one is down here just for being so frustrating honestly. The swimming section is torture because you can’t tell which way to go, and filling the vials with moth drips at the end is also torture because mobs interrupt you in the middle of the process with not much you can do other than run away, wait a while and come back. Climbing the moth chamber at the end is also frustrating as it’s easy to get their attention when you don’t want to. It’s also another linear level; if it went back to the spirit of Inside the Backrooms and some of the puzzles could be across a network of caves that link core areas whilst the moths lurk in certain parts of the map, that would be an improvement. So… the general trend is the levels are becoming more linear and less inspired. The developer clearly had a vision of exploring open levels solving puzzles, that has been degraded from its identity. It’s been a little confusing keeping up with all the level redesigns; I’ve not checked out the changes in most of these, but I’ve made a note of which version I had played according to the review above. Perhaps some of the levels were on the long side previously, but there should be a good middle ground between keeping an open level design and the linearity to which it seems to be trending. I also wonder if the developer thinks the game is easier than it actually is when testing it - it's easy to have a bias towards this when testing a game you made yourself. This might be influencing some of the frustrating areas being so awkward. Thanks for reading and I hope to see the old magic spark back in future updates.
