I wasn´t quite sure what to expect of "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle". I love Indiana Jones and I find it almost impossible not to compare the game to the films. Which is a lot to live up to. By my book there are only two movies which really nailed the character and the atmosphere, "Raiders" and "Last Crusade". "Temple of Doom" was actually pretty grim and turned Jones into an almost misogynistic macho and what could have been another strong female lead into an ever screaming hysteric. Years later came "Crystal Skull" which was only epic as in epic failure and finally "Dial of Destiny" which had some great ideas but was overloaded with exposition. To get the story going Jones not only had to suffer a failed marriage but also the death of his son, pension shock and even a completely senseless murder plot which got dropped only minutes later never to be mentioned again or at least somehow resolved. Which literally brings us to the first thing the game gets right. In "Great Circle" Indy also suffers from a broken relationship (with the same woman, only decades earlier). There is a break-in, an insignificant artifact gets stolen by a giant man who loses an ancient seal of the Vatican. That´s about it and it is plenty. Indy wants to run away and there is a mystery, an opportunity for discovery. It is as simple as it is relatable. From here on the writers nail everything and this is no small feat considering that even the legends Lucas/Spielberg and the great James Mangold got a lot wrong in the final two installments. Seeing Indiana Jones roam the hidden catacombs of the Vatican and punching Italian fascists is just perfect and makes you wonder why nobody else ever cooked up that idea before. There are a couple of easter eggs, there is blockbuster nostalgia but they never feel forced. There is Gina, a fully fleshed-out female lead who challenges our hero but never feels like a Marion Ravenwood rip-off. There is a disgusting villain who even the nazis dislike. The gameplay doesn´t reinvent the wheel and it doesn´t have to. "Great Circle" feels a lot like a game in the "Dishonored"-series which I don´t mind since I played the hell out of these games. It simply fits since it presents an opportunity to use all the basic elements of an Indiana Jones story. There are puzzles in abandoned tombs, mysteries to uncover, passages to climb, exotic places to explore and hordes of bad guys to whip. Gathering from the trailers that this was basically a FPS I was at first skeptical how the game could possibly capture the titular character. MachineGames actually made some very good choices here. There are quite a few cinematic cut scenes (who always bring the story forward and never outstay their welcome) and the game switches to a third person perspective when climbing or swinging. And there is Troy Baker who perfectly recreates but never copies Harrison Ford´s performance. Honestly, I could have sworn that this was either Ford´s voice, facial expression and body language or some heavy AI at work. Neither is true. It´s Baker all the time and he is fantastic. Is this actually the modern day Indiana Jones sequel we always wanted but never got? Hell, yes.

Great Game
"You'll have one hell of a story to tell."
This game is honestly way better than I expected. It throws you into puzzles, fistfights, and that classic running away from something big and round moment that I swear Indiana must have nightmares about. I loved the movies and this game made my childhood complete. I just hope there's going to me more Indiana adventures by the same developer. The stealth sections made me feel like I was playing Assassin's Creed Syndicate for about 3 seconds before I accidentally pressed the wrong button and punched a wall, but hey, it still worked out. The story is fun, the vibes are pure adventure/movie energy, and Indiana keeps dropping those sarcastic one‑liners like he’s speed running being grumpy. Specially in the sewers in (in the DLC), I dropped in that dirty water and he was like "Nice, now I need a shower" then dropped again "Now I need two showers" 🤣 Graphics? AWESOME. Action? Chaotic in a good way. Performace? Perfect. Bugs? Yeah, a few, but nothing game‑breaking, I did had a bit of an issue with a Note but found it eventually (in the DLC). Overall: 10/10 would whip enemies again!!! To the devs: Please make some more Indiana adventures for us, would 10000000% buy it and finish it!
