InCell is an action/racing VR game with a bit of strategy and science thrown into the mix. You'll take an exciting journey inside the highly unusual micro world of human cell and stop the virus advance. The game is focused on VR but you can play just fine without a set.
Revenue comes from in-game items and microtransactions, which our price-based model doesn't estimate. Copies below reflect the player base, not paid sales.
Slide along the pipes while grabbing protein cells, speed boosts and avoiding obstacles. As the game doesn't introduce much it gets repetitive fast. Obviously have some educational value where you learn a bit about cells, still gameplay is pretty much basic. Might be more interesting on VR though. Worth checking out but don't expect something amazing. Take that virus!
"InCell VR" is not to be confused with "incels", a group of unfortunate men who can't get dates so spend their time writing Ren'Py ebooks and RPG Maker asset flips about their imaginary girlfriends and publishing them through Steam Direct. Instead, "InCell VR" is a pointless VR tech demo, a primitive racing game with bad graphics and a loose and lame "science" theme. What do you do in the game? Gameplay involves navigating and racing through the cell's components, and utilizing various strategies, like using organelles' abilities, while clunkily through badly recreated "biology" like environments. All in VR, because the game stood no chance without VR support, which tells us all we need to know. Note: It does work without VR, there's still no reason to play this. The graphics aren't great, very poor quality neon/minimalist cell-like imagery, poor assets and bad optimisation. That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. This game is ancient, it's over 10 years old... it's heavily dated and isn't going to give you a remotely contemporary gaming experience... another reason for gamers to be hesitant about adding this to their libraries. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $5 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. It's also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who paid money for this... nobody got refunded. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at less than 100 concurrent players, they couldn't even break three figures, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. There's no financial cost up-front, but you'd still be spending your time and a little hard drive space on a product that's far from the best. There's thousands of better alternatives on Steam.
I actually really liked the game just by its simple single-player racing mechanics. Which, are nothing particularly innovative or anyhting, they just feel really good and satisfying, although, at times, floaty. That aside, my main gripes with the game come with its thematic content, because it could've have more educational elements and framed in better ways. Because, right now as it is, the only real info you get about the cell is the name of the organells and a very brief (and, imo, sorta confusing) description of what it does. I haven't read many reviews for the game, but what I've found is that many other people also have the same issues as me. But that just goes to show that games like this can have both parts of the word "edu-tainment" covered. Minor additions like an in-game encyclopedia about the organells and their functions described in a more thorough manner would go ways toward encouraging learning while not disrupting the flow of the game. Other additions, that at least I would suggest, are: -Some kind of mode where you can race (with or wthout viruses) that has some kind of visual or audio note or w/e that tells you the name of what you are looking at. A kind of 'free mode,' or something. -More voiceover for the robot! I loved it! -A quicker interface. I know this is kinda hindered by the VR support; but, come on, wouldn't it be nice? -Mod support would breath new life upon this game. These are very shallow descriptions, but they represent well that these would be improvements not corrections over a very fun and unique game. Thank you!
Mmmmm, yea virus fightin' in VR. Fun game, dodge the walls and get the buffs. But the story and the mock irl feel makes it so good. Would play again. And its free?
Yes very good game, now only if my biology and organic chemistry classes had such graphics! This game worked so much better on a my large 4K monitor and wireless Xbox 360 controller than VR. Fun outrunning viruses and, exploring the cell structures and proteins. Wish I had more time to explore before the virus made its way!
pro's: -educational (a bit,for me who goes to health school nothing new,but teaches who a cell is build) -fun gameplay (like audiosurf) -works without a HMD/VR headset -different cell organisms have different benefits -archievements con's: -repetetive
