Addicting!
I have been playing this game through the web browser for over 10 years and if I had been playing through Steam, I would have logged over ten thousand hours. I simply love this game and I could probably write a book on all the things that are interesting and fun about Illyriad. Instead, I will try to keep this review brief (although this is not one of my strong suits), telling you why you should play this game. Illyriad is a slow paced game, so if you are looking for instant gratification and flashy graphics, look somewhere else. At the same time, this game does not require you to put in hours every day. Depending on your own preferences and how much you have grown your empire, you could either spend the entire day interacting with the community and giving orders to build, research, send your armies marching etc., or you can log in for a few minutes, making sure your cities are growing and no threats are in sight. This game has a cornucopia of different features and as it is a true sandbox game, you can find a playstyle to your liking. The presence of many different alliances makes it easy to find fun and like-minded people you can connect with and together you can grow and interact with the world of Illyriad. As the possibilities are so abundant, Illyriad is a difficult game to master in all of its aspects (if even possible), but the active community is always willing to supply information and resources to help you on your way. Although sometimes wars do happen in the game, it is not difficult to adapt a peaceful lifestyle if that is your preference. The existence of seasonal tournaments and player-organized events makes friendly combat possible, even if you prefer to keep on good terms with your neighbors. There is much more I could say about this game, but I will leave it at this for now. My main advise to you is: Start an account, say hello to the community through Global Chat or private messages and slowly start discovering Illyriad. Take your time and fall in love with this game!

Yeah, it's good. There's an in-game chat, and if you're new, just say something and things will start happening lol A not so subtle hint, expand your storehouse!
I've been playing Illyriad off and on since 2010, and it remains one of the most rewarding long-term strategy games out there. The depth of gameplay and excellent community has kept drawing me back. I took a 9 year hiatus and was able to come back and grow to significantly stronger than I ever was before in a much quicker timeframe. I'm especially excited to see the upcoming rollout of faction AI. The dev team is super involved again and their increased activity and engagement with the community have brought new life to the game. Highly recommend.
wow the amount of the information I saw just at start screen are stunned, like developer giving player a Phd test, I meaning there sure tutorial exist but you still confused because can't found the next things in note to process with.
It's a nice and complex game. But... - The in-game documentation is confusing and lacking sometimes. So you'll have to try things first to understand how they work. But by then you have already committed lots of resources to a path you might not want to go. - Early trade is kind of unbalanced: Cotters make you tons of money (or rather, valuable items), but you first have to pay the tax rate, long before seeing the money, so it slows you down again. The trade system is also not particularly well explained in the game or the linked tutorial videos, which seem to be quite old. - It's weird that each of your towns has to completely develop all (needed) technologies from scratch. Why no knowledge sharing in your empire? - What eventually caused me to lose interest, the final straw, was that a quest description was misleading and I lost the quest due to that. - If people in chat see that you are new, they will flood you with resources. This is apparently some sort of custom. If you don't want this, because you want to play your economy in a more natural way and you tell them, they might still do it. So you could end up not asking for help in chat at all, so as to go unnoticed. Many of these things you might not mind. If so, this could be a game for you. For me it wasn't. Sadly, I couldn't find any other online game with a similar concept and depth. Except for one in German language that I used to play. So if you are a German speaker, maybe check out 'Ritterburg': https://www.ritterburg.games/
Great game, one of the few of its kind where it isn't just pay2win. Been playing for years and plan to play it for more.
Over 227 hours in this thing and I still haven't figured out if I'm playing a game or attending the world's longest city council meeting, eh? Illyriad is the grand strategy MMO equivalent of watching paint dry, except the paint is your empire and it takes about three weeks to apply each coat. You'll spend more time staring at timers than actually doing anything, which honestly makes it perfect for playing at work when you're supposed to be doing spreadsheets. Your boss will think you're being productive because it basically IS a spreadsheet. The diplomacy system is absolutely bonkers in the best way. I've made alliances, broken treaties, and started wars over resource disputes that would make OPEC blush. The community is surprisingly helpful, though half of them have been playing since before I was born and know secrets about the game that the developers forgot existed. The crafting and trading system is deeper than a Tim Hortons coffee on a Monday morning. There's literally 380+ items to craft and a player-driven economy that fluctuates more than Canadian weather in April. If you enjoy watching numbers go up very slowly while pretending you're a medieval emperor, this is your jam. Just don't expect any action - this game moves at the pace of a glacier, and I mean that as a compliment, sorry.
