Reviews
A wonderful story full of intrigue and unchecked lesbianism.
good story, good characters, good variety of paths to take. recommended if you used to play "choice of" games and want something with a bit more variety and polish
good
beautifully written, i hope they come out with more works like this
I was hooked on this one right from the start- if you're intrigued enough about this game that you are reading the reviews, I can assure you it's worth a play through (or two, or three, or more)! PROS: I felt like I was able to develop my player character in many creative, meaningful ways. Many CYOA games have these set brackets your character can fall into and there's not much development beyond that. In this game, I felt like my character had personality that was developed throughout the adventure, and through my choices they were able to experience a world that changed and adapted around them. For something that is the draw of CYOA games, it's something that I don't see too often, but I felt that IIPTC excelled at it. As expected with Heart's Choice, the romance is well written and all three LIs were intriguing in their own way. I was determined that my character would be with Charlotte (I'm guilty of choosing before I even start the game lol) but darn it if Katharina didn't enchant as well- I was pleasantly surprised at how unique and special each of the options are. And I really appreciate that there's a friendship option for all of them (and plenty of non-LIs) too :) CONS: The story flowed beautifully throughout the first half, but after the first confrontation with Apollon, things started to feel very rushed. Passages that were once an entire page were suddenly just a few sentences or a line or two apiece. The plot that had been building up so intricately seemed to just... fall apart. There were still threads there, but it honestly felt like things were wrapping up only to be told that X amount of words were still needed. The random notes, one after another, about where support lies- from the people, the court, and foreign influences- was so abrupt and out of place (and one after the other) that it jerked me right out of the experience. Such a shame to have things so rushed! That being said, these little things didn't ruin the game for me and I do highly recommend it. The author is very skilled with words and this is definitely a story to be swept up in! If you are searching for well-written LGBT+ interactive fiction, you should give this game a try.
This is my first "choice of" style game and so far it's quite good. The quality of the writing is very impressive, especially compared to other visual novel-adjacent games that I've played.
A charming romance story in a historical, well researched setting that tells regardless of the choosen romance a beautiful, romantic story. Extremly well written, Paris and Versailles come truly alive with a well researched description of the palace under Ludwig the XV. The mainplot centers around the schemes about Madame Pompadours ascension to royal mistress, with the protagonist in the middle of it. The romances are tied to the mainstory in a way that never feels forced. There are only three romances (all lesbian), but that helps to have them well written and quite a bit longer than usually. Still, the Charlotte Romance has a bit more contend that the other two, as the protagonist lives under her roof. The statmanagment is very easy, its very hard to fail a choice and you can max out four of five stats by the end. A well written, glamourous, historical lesbian romance novel.
An excellent example of writing and characterization masterfully intertwined with player choice.
I have finished my first play through, and I have to say... What a great game. The characters are intriguing, the moral quandaries make you anxious, and the writing, oh, the writing! This game is so worth it. If you, like I, enjoy queer literature this is definitely the game for you!
