So the Story of it is, I've not played this Chess game much, it's just been Idle. Haha! You see what I did there?
Ok, this is stupid. Firstly, for anyone out there, the name is a LIE. There is no real "story" to speak of, and it's not idle. Secondly, it's very RNG-centric. You can fight level 2 enemies in your first 5 fights, and 1 level 2 enemy can demolish you. The bosses feel unoriginal and just damage sponges more than anything else, I have no idea what the hell abilities do/how to check, some units feel drastically underpowered, and the AI is abysmal, throwing your units into groups of 3, almost as if it's trying to get you killed. All in all, whilst the idea was nice, it's poorly executed (And probably an asset flip, too).

Single player riff on Dota2 auto-chess, done pretty well for people who aren't super-competitive like me. I wasn't that great at the Dota2 version and I'm not that great at this one but I look forward to messing around with different class combinations. So far I've made it to wave 20 with a warrior/guardian/undead hybrid. How far can you go?

Poor optimization, too slow pace of each round... this is the single lamest implementation of "gauntlet auto chess", while Heroes Auto Chess (mobile) implements the Gauntlet mode of auto chess very well.
There's "idle" and there's "I can't do anything that would allow me to win". Just look at the boss fight in the trailer video and see how even a tribe bonus with a decent line-up can't even beat the boss. Boss kills you = start over. There's really not enough decision-making mechanics in this game to make it interesting. Don't waste your time unless they come up with a patch adding more control over how you progress, then it's probably worth a try.
You know, when you set a game to EASY, it should be relatively EASY. Clearly the developers have little to no experience in gaming. This has nothing to do with idle. The only idle thing is that you wait for the fight to happen. This has nothing to do with chess. The only thing is that you play on a chessboard. This game is 100% luck. Nothing else. ZERO strategy. At least it's free.
Calling this game Idle is a huge understatement, You cannot sit idle and look as conquest progresses. Also randomness of shop, incremental costs or rerolls, Limited area for backup units (needed to upgrade). And so called ONE SHOT FRIGGIN` WONDERS that spawn once a 5 levels or so... NO BALANCE, TOTAL RANDOMNESS, LACK OF ANY THINKING. 2/10
I am indifferent about this game. There could be more of a tutorial to tell us how we should deploy our pieces. I think there is potential for this to be a good game. It is an early access game so I will wait for a few updates to see how the game progresses. This isn't a chess game or and idle game it is more of a tower defense type of game to me. https://youtu.be/1u-b-GKc0L4
