Idle Cave Miner is a free to play idle mining game where we build a team of miners, collect ores and gems, craft equipment and keep digging deeper into different mines. It starts off pretty simple, but there is more going on once we start unlocking new miners, better equipment and more parts of the mines. The best thing about the game is the progression. We can constantly improve our miners by giving them crafted items that permanently increase their stats. Seeing the team get stronger and being able to reach another section of the mine gives us a good reason to keep checking back. The mining itself is also quite satisfying. Different mines have their own resources and environments, so we are not just working through one area forever. We can also return to older mines to collect resources that help us progress further in the main mine. Crafting is another important part of the game. We can smelt ores, refine gems and use those materials to make equipment for our miners. The forge system gives us something useful to spend all those resources on instead of simply watching the numbers increase. The prestige system works well too. We can reset our progress in exchange for permanent bonuses, which lets us get through earlier sections much faster the next time. There are also missions and achievements, plus online leaderboards and offline progress, so there are quite a few smaller goals to work towards. The biggest problem is that the gameplay can become repetitive. We are still mining, collecting resources, crafting equipment and upgrading miners for most of the game. The different mines help with this, but eventually the basic loop starts to feel very familiar. The other issue is the amount of waiting. Since this is an idle game, progress can slow down quite a lot as we get deeper. We can leave the miners working and come back later, but sometimes we are mostly waiting for enough resources to afford the next useful upgrade. The in game purchases also make the slower parts more noticeable. Overall, Idle Cave Miner is a solid idle game with a good progression system, a useful crafting system and enough different mines to keep things interesting for quite a while. It is not especially deep outside of its upgrade loop and the later grind can become noticeable, but the core idea works well and there is a decent amount of content here for a free game.
