Hostile Lands is a fast-paced and challenging top-down action roguelike heavily inspired by Nuclear Throne and Enter The Gungeon (the first one for the overall progression, level design and most of the encounters; the second one because of boss fights and shoot+roll combat). It is pretty straightforward; you get into the level, you shoot and dodge until everything is dead, being more of the skill-based type of roguelike than the get as strong as possible to destroy everything on the screen. There are, right now, 7 playable characters (all of them with their unique active and passive skill) 5-6 areas with their own bosses (some bosses can change), a pretty simple system of meta-progression that you can upgrade during every run and will stack for future runs, a lot of weapons to try and three different levels of difficulty (the steep from the basic to hard is really steep). Might not be the most charming in terms of graphic design (I like it), but gameplay-wise is absolutely worth it if you like chaos and challenge without depending on broken builds (and I repeat, especially recommended if you are a big fan of Nuclear Throne). The game promises a few future updates, adding even more characters and weapons, so I would say it's absolutely worth your time if you want some roguelike action. I would score it with 9/10 and you can check out some gameplay here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-ibT9A5QHA

This games is so much fun!! I had trouble at first, but kept at it and finally beat the Sand Devil!!! Very satisfying. Highly recommended.
Nice little gem. Randomly stumbled over it and glad that I did. Exceptionally stable for an early access game, only thing that I encountered is the collision for the weapons with the pink, bouncy bullets not always working perfectly, but that's more of a nitpick. Really love the attention to detail and the credits, haha. Scratches the same itch Dead Estate and Voidigo did for me, looking forward to future updates. :)
To be clear, I did receive an early copy of this game for free, but I was already making obsessive posts about this game long before release when it was just a demo. It takes a lot of inspiration from Nuclear Throne, but the parts that interested me were the inclusion of an invincible roll and a dedicated melee button. Weaving these into your attacks feels really good. Not to mention that while reloading is a thing, you can reload offhand - letting you freely alternate between your guns in a way that I find VERY satisfying. I wasn't a big fan of the bosses in the demo, but they all got big overhauls for the release and I enjoy them all MUCH much more. They've honestly went from a formality of the genre to one of the game's selling points for me! And there's more on the way, too! The game seems to be following in the footsteps of Nuclear Throne as well. It's fully playable to completion in its current Early Access state, but the devs have said that they're planning for MUCH more content down the line, and I'm excited to see what this game ultimately shapes into.
Video: https://youtu.be/XUhoi9F380Y Took me about 2 hours before I had my first successful run. At that point you'll unlock hard mode if you want a challenge. At present there are quite a few guns, multiple characters with their own special abilities, and a solid dose of fun to be had. Nice pixel art, catchy music, and really entertaining gameplay.
Disclaimer: I was gifted a key, and i was initially sceptical of the game, but it proved me wrong. I really had a blast with this awesome little game! Good fun and nostalgia! I do wish there was more levels that you can play! When i finished the run it felt very rewarding and i wanted more!!
This game is really fun, addicting and one of the best pixel games i've really played. The beta update really added more detail to the game and surrounding areas. I would highly recommend anyone to play. Can't wait for the full release of the game. Like i said before. It's fun fun fun!!!!!. 100/100 in gameplay, 10/10 story so far and fightstyle is 8/10 mainly because im not used to playing on PC.
It's right to the point, and I support that ♥♥♥♥.
This game is a lot of fun. It's super juicy, and the combat feels satisfying. Very excited for what's next for this game!
