Hopeguard

Hopeguard is a good Dark Fantasy, puzzle game and it's brought to you by the same Studio that has brought games like shadow burglar and all abug, okay now the story. In a kingdom far, far away a deadly scourge of dragons have plagued the land many have lost their lives and many of village has been burned, but the King has created the Hopeguard a group of knights dedicated to slaying all the dragons. It has been successful but there is still one dragon left, so a hopeguard is sent out to slay the last dragon and bring their head to the king, but soon this hopeguard will fail and perhaps he will rise a new after that. Now then the likes, the story is good it's just a simple knight is sent out to slay a dragon, has an existential crisis and learn something, it's been done before but here it's done pretty well for such a short game. I also like the themes of overcoming adversity, learning to be a better person and question authority, those are some good themes. The gameplay is good it starts off pretty simple you have a sword and shield and you use your sword to cut and slash your way to the dragon, but after you lose your sword arm you have to come up with new ways to get back to the dragon. It's a pretty interesting concept and it does take a short time learn, but you'll get it pretty quickly and this ties into the themes of the game about overcoming adversity and finding different ways around the problem. The puzzles are good it's a simple you activate this energy crystal and align the beam to another crystal while getting rid of any obstacles that is blocking the beam, it's been done before and it's pretty easy to do, it takes a little bit of thinking and some trial and error. The graphics are good has a nice 3D look that definitely captures the feel of a medieval-styled world with beautiful colors and designs that just makes you want to stop and stare at it all. The levels are good and a little diverse with a mind, a destroyed Village and a church yard, it makes you just want to stop and stare and then explore a little bit. The music was good it fits with the whole medieval fantasy genre. The voice acting is okay, it does have a slight problem with it but that's for dislikes. Lastly another thing is that the achievements work, although I didn't think they worked at first, but I'll explain it in the dislikes. Now then the dislikes, now there are some bugs in the game but nothing really game breaking, but one bug is for some reason I tried to change/lower the music down so I could hear the narrator better, unfortunately for some reason the music just stopped playing and on that the narrator can be pretty quiet like sometimes he can speak in a whisper and with the loud music it's hard to hear sometimes. Also the game does not have a save system, basically you have to play the game in one sitting which is kind of dumb it should at least have had a checkpoint system. Lastly for the achievements I was afraid they weren't working/they were broken, but don't worry they are working it's just they won't pop up until after you beat or quit the game. Now that I've told you this Hopeguard is a good Dark Fantasy, puzzle game and it's brought to you by the same Studio that has brought games like shadow burglar and all abug, it has a good story, good gameplay and good levels. Okay then I recommend this game if you enjoyed other games published by the studios then you'll enjoy this as well.
