This game changed my life, I'll never be the same again. Every night I lie awake unable to stop this game from consuming my every thought. I wake up in a cold sweat clutching at my arm making sure its still there, the face of the dragon burned into my eyelids. How can I stop this cycle of revenge, how can I use these lessons to fix the world. This might be my destiny. When someone berates me with words of hate I look at them with pity, they don't see the world as I do. They don't understand that they are slaves to a cycle that eats away at our very souls. I must cure them. I must free them. I must be their saviour. I must be their Hopeguard.

had a Quebecois yap in my ear while playing it (who helped make the game). And for it being free and only taking 30 minutes to play its quite nice. Know that it was made for a school project and a bit buggy but still so so so so so so so cool to see the visuals and everything in it worth the 30 minutes
It's a quick game about 30-45 minutes long for the price of free. Because of that I would have given this a neutral/informational review but that simply isn't an option in these (Thankfully.) so I'm going to go with not recommend which I'll explain with a few spoilers. (If you're curious, and have an hour to spare, go ahead and download it, beat it and come back to read this review later. Though I will cover all the spoilers.) The game is ok-ish from the get-go. Graphics ok, controls work, completely linear and short. (Kinda like a demo honestly.) Since it's free, I would have said that that just about weighed it at a "Meh..." rating, but sadly from the lower half of the rating system. - The narrator is quite quiet. There were even 1 or 2 times when the other sounds made it difficult to hear what the narrator was saying which was quite a bit annoying... - The developers didn't actually make any use of the control system they introduce. I wholeheartedly believed that I wouldn't prefer the game on Controller but the game recommended it so I'm going to try and play the intended way in order to truly experience the game.
At first I thought the placement of the actions was a bit strange but after the character's arm got cut off, disabling half of the controller seemed like an interesting gimmick and I was truly wondering what they would do with it... They did nothing with it. It serves absolutely no functional purpose in the game which marks off a point from this game.
- The story is just a plain, dumb cliché...
Oh, you're the last of your kind hunting the last of the dragonkind. This has been going on for years/decades and it only occurred to you AFTER a dragon quite literally bites off your arm while you play as the supposed hero of the Hopeguards.... "Boo hoo, I'm such a bad person... This monster that bit off my arm is just a misunderstood cutie-pie..." Really took me out of the immersion of the story.
- One thing relating to controls I guess:
When you lose your arm, on puzzles you sometimes use the shield to reflect light and climb small walls for some reason. The shield had no usage prior to you losing your other arm which is somewhat lackluster. But now, while the game introduced a mechanic where you can hand over your shield to a statue in order to open some doors, if you climb the small wall, you also place your shield in the slit but you are unable to move while the shield is not in your possession and for some reason need to press the interact button 3 times for a single climb-up which could have been a single input. Also now that your character lost an arm, they can't walk on boxes and such...
It's just overall very weak and insufficient in it's execution. I could definitely see this becoming a game, but it would need a HECK-load of work put into it in order for a good game to come out of this... Lots of design, mechanics and polish... So much so that I just barely don't recommend it even at the price of free. But as I said, it's free and will basically only cost you a half an hour of your time. If you're willing to put that on the line then go ahead and try it!
