This is not a Beta, it's not even an alpha. There's zero sound except for gun fire or your car exploding when you corner too fast. The controls are awful and there doesn't appear to be any way to exit the game or open a menu. Absolute trash! Why does this even exist?
Hon Cars is an open-world driving and exploration game developed and published by Bolfosu Nalic that aims to deliver a broad sandbox experience rather than a traditional racing-focused adventure. Built around freedom and player choice, the game combines vehicle ownership, exploration, construction mechanics, and character-based interaction within a large world designed to encourage experimentation. Instead of pushing players through a rigid sequence of objectives, it provides a virtual playground where personal goals and curiosity become the driving force behind progression. The game's strongest feature is its commitment to open-ended gameplay. Players are given access to a sizeable environment where they can travel freely using different types of vehicles, ranging from standard automobiles to aircraft. This variety helps keep exploration engaging, as moving across the world never feels limited to a single style of transportation. The ability to switch between driving on roads and taking to the skies creates a greater sense of scale and adventure, making the world feel more expansive than many smaller indie driving titles. Vehicle ownership plays a central role in the overall experience. Hon Cars allows players to acquire and customize vehicles, adding a progression system that goes beyond simply unlocking new content. Customization gives players the opportunity to personalize their collection and develop a stronger connection to their favorite rides. Whether the goal is building a garage full of vehicles or simply finding the perfect car for exploration, the customization features add meaningful depth to the sandbox structure. Unlike many driving games that keep players permanently seated behind the wheel, Hon Cars also incorporates a third-person character system. Players can leave their vehicles and interact directly with the environment, creating a more immersive experience. This design choice broadens the scope of gameplay considerably, allowing exploration to continue on foot while supporting interactions with objects, locations, and various elements scattered throughout the world. The combination of character-based gameplay and vehicle mechanics gives the game a hybrid identity that separates it from more conventional driving simulators. Another notable aspect is the inclusion of house-building mechanics. The opportunity to construct a personal home gives players a sense of permanence within the game world and reinforces the sandbox philosophy that defines the experience. Building a home transforms the environment from a place to visit into a place to inhabit, encouraging creativity and personal expression. This feature works well alongside vehicle collection and exploration, creating a lifestyle-oriented gameplay loop where players can establish their own routines and objectives. Visually, the game places significant emphasis on scale and environmental variety. The large map serves as the foundation for nearly every activity available, encouraging players to discover new locations and appreciate the freedom offered by the open-world design. While the graphical presentation may not compete with major AAA productions, it effectively supports the game's ambitions by providing a world that feels spacious and inviting to explore. The sense of distance and the availability of multiple travel methods contribute positively to the overall atmosphere. The game's ambition is both its greatest strength and its biggest challenge. Hon Cars attempts to blend driving, flying, building, exploration, and character interaction into a single package, a task that can be difficult for an independent project to fully realize. Players looking for highly detailed simulation mechanics in every area may find some systems less complex than those found in specialized genre titles. However, those who value freedom, variety, and experimentation will likely appreciate the game's willingness to offer numerous activities within a unified sandbox experience. Ultimately, Hon Cars succeeds most as a game about freedom and self-directed adventure. Its combination of vehicle customization, open-world exploration, aviation, construction, and character gameplay creates a diverse experience where players are encouraged to create their own stories. While not every mechanic reaches the depth of dedicated simulators, the overall package delivers an enjoyable sandbox environment filled with opportunities for exploration and creativity. For players who enjoy open-ended worlds and the freedom to play at their own pace, Hon Cars offers a solid and entertaining experience. Rating: 5/10
