HOME: Mother

Home: Mother is like a broken-in, and broken-down, couch. It’s really comfy, but eventually you notice the loose springs trying to create new holes in your skin. The strongest parts of this game are the environments and the atmosphere. The backgrounds are quite pretty, in an abandoned and decayed kind of way. The screen with a cat and dog on a balcony, overlooking a landscape (seen in the thumbnail below), have the quality of a Rusty Lake game, if not even better. The game also built up a great sense of atmosphere through detailed descriptions and the inner monologue of the main character. However, the writing is severely harmed by the localization. Not just the word choice, but also the grammar and syntax is pretty bad. Given that at least the first part of the game is nothing but reading, this makes for rough going. Match that with a transparent story and a cliched, amnesiac character, and the writing won't be shaking anyone's world. I probably played two-thirds of the game, and while the beginning is a reading-fest, the game quickly devolves into a pixel hunt of the worst kind, where items necessary to progress are hidden around the screen in decreasing sizes, down to the size of a corner of a post-it note sticking out from under a hat. If you can tolerate pixel hunts and poor localization, then this game is worth the $2 price at the time of this review. But if you have a low tolerance for frustration, or wish to progress without blindly clicking on every square millimeter of the game, you should probably take a pass. Rummage through your old house and look for memories. This is a small game that requires a lot of clicking and reading. It takes place in a house where you search for memories. The house has multiple rooms, and each one is a static image filled with things. You must click on even the smallest and seemingly insignificant objects because you never know which one will contribute a piece to the broken heart in the upper right corner. Memories are crucial because the cat will quiz you about them. The questions are simply about a few of the memories, so you don't need to find them all. Unfortunately, the game does not make things easy for you. There is no in-game notepad or other way to keep track of found memories, so you must write them down yourself. Once you've answered the questions, the cat will set you on a scavenger hunt throughout the house. The goal is to collect six items represented by silhouettes. This shows what has to be located, although the objects are very little and difficult to locate in environments crowded with many stuff.

首先，我爱狗狗！其次，我也爱猫猫！ 很温馨的故事，一开始以为是有点恐怖血腥的类型www 不需要全收集就可以通关，有些地方需要反复查看。 通关时长适中，之后应该会再玩一下试试全收集。 很喜欢这个风格，十块钱买不了吃亏买不了上当！ 就是全程一直在点点点有点手腕痛……（这是自身原因吧）

美术确实可以，氛围渲染很到位，只有2个惊吓点，解谜也不难，不过我没太懂阳台密码箱的密码怎么来的。最让我在意的是，为什么整个故事都要靠我脑补啊啊啊啊啊啊！！！！给的线索太零散了，我确定不了时间线，也确定不了有些话是谁说的。不敢相信我为这个游戏花了11块钱！！！！！！！！ （剧透警告） 故事线不太清晰，我猜测是妈妈控制欲很强，主角生活得很窒息，但是他能感受到妈妈的爱，他也爱妈妈，但又很痛苦，还无法逃离，加上失业什么的，情绪大爆炸，把妈妈杀害并碎尸，最后自杀。我就是不太确定狗是不是被主角杀掉的，是在杀妈妈之前还是杀妈妈之后。
