Hold Your Ground

"Hold Your Ground" is an abandoned Early Access tech demo for a VR exclusive low poly arcade cover shooter (remember those? The game format that became obsolete back in the 1990s?). Gameplay consists of wearing a VR headset to see low poly graphics supplemented by some Unreal Marketplace stock assets and shooting a bow at the Unreal assets trying to get in your castle. If you can get the game to work properly. It's been suggested that this is an "asset flip" or uses the same assets as another game (Hold the Door) that is thematically almost exactly the same, but I'm not completely sure about that. However, the similarities, right down to the title of the game, the concept (castle, attacking blobs, defending the drawbridge over the moat, VR exclusive, bow and arrow cover shooter) are amazing. It was dumped on Steam and abandoned in an incomplete state a few months later, with no obvious plan for it ever to be completed. It's a buggy and mostly unplayable, with serious problems that will never be fixed. This seems to have been made a VR exclusive to prevent any comparison with non-VR 3D games, a comparison that this game would fail very badly at. Developers must learn that while VR is great, if the only thing that makes the game great is the VR, then the game isn't great at all. Imagine a game so bad that it was made VR exclusive, in the hopes that would prevent people playing it and comparing it to professionally developed games. This isn't even truly free as the developers indicated they might charge money for it if they ever finished it. It's incomplete, and of very low quality. This is more of a tech demo than a real game, and doesn't have any serious value for dedicated PC gamers or even VR enthusiasts. It's impossible to recommend.
