worth to get into and the first (and free) episode is quite lengthy and well paced. you'd much rather read it for the entertainment value alone rather than be a poser and pretend to have read it. don't larp it, its actually worth it

Higurashi Onikakurshi is the first entry to the higurashi franchise and I must say, it establish's the town of hinamizawa quite well as a countryside area with a looming mystery in the undercurrent of the town. While I did originally watch the anime prior to reading this visual novel, I feel like the novel still does provide value despite knowing season 1 prior. The atmosphere you get through reading is comparibly as chilling as the anime, albeit in a different format. Overall higurashi is a pretty fantastic visual novel, and this is a pretty fantastic first entry to the series so I'd highly reccomend it
kinda starts out slow but is really captivating when it starts to get creepy
funny, wholesome, scary gameplay recomend to be ur first vn
W larps
Even though this is one of the bigger titles when it comes to the visual novel genre, I put off reading it because I thought it was mostly hype. Now I see why that was a mistake and why it has such a cult following. Even while the slice-of-life sections set up the story in the beginning (which I tend to find tedious), this game piques your interest from the start and doesn't let go and keeps you constantly guessing while wanting to know more. I just couldn't put it down, and I can't wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds. (Disclosure: I'm playing with the recommended 07th-Mod patch, which adds in voice acting, original/console sprites, original background art, and the original musical tracks that you can switch between at any time.)
