TLDR: It's great, the music slaps, you can climb, you'd be a chump not to beat it. Don't be a chump
This game is a grad student project that I was very fortunate enough to playtest through a few builds of the alpha (so don't let the saline count or playtime fool you) and now this release and let me tell you, what a grand ol time it is. Throughout that journey I have numerous bug fixes and great ways on preventing me from cheating to be #1
nice try, still #1
This game is a perfectly paced 3rd person platformer with abilities and a CLIMBING mechanic. Yes, you read that correctly, if you can climb over ledges! No more barely missing a platform due to being distracted because a fly whizzed by you while you were reading chat
or the lack of chat ='(
. No more doing the math and realizing you forgot to carry the one and only to fall just an inch short (or more such as life). No more leaping over a wall and barely missing the platform due to being Shornes Faukt. NO, climb that ledge like a champ. There is also an onslaught of abilities, an onslaught of 6, which is all personal preference to how you want to play
it's not personal preference, dash and hands is all you need to be #1, don't be #2 be #1
. It adds a lot of variety and changes the way you will complete a level. Don't know what to choose? Smash that curse button and let the game pick for you. The music, let me tell it. it SLAPS. That's all you need to know. Now curses are quite interesting, in the early builds and being the absolute best, I plopped all of those on. Completed each level on my first try as one does.... but then they added fixed camera angles.... whoever was the sadist who thought of that bravo because that modifier alone is pure hell, goes from casual to nightmare mode instantly. You thought turning a corner and a zombie being right in your face in Resident Evil 2 (1998). Imagine zooming faster than Sanic through the level and boom going right is now going down anddddddddddd dead. Now obviously I had to imagine as I beat it first try. Only way I can think of to up the ante is have an extra curse that randomizes the directional controls each level. In the end, the game is fun, that is all that matters. I raise my glass to that.
Super fun game with great control but has minor bugs that can hopefully be fixed soon.
My favorite thing about this game is the movement and how immediate the controls feel, there is no delay, and the movement while in the air is very fair. I like the dialogue for the tone of the game and feel the graphics are great in matching the art style. The only two noticeable issues for me are getting stuck on tiny pieces of the environment that put you at a full stop (which I'm sure could be tweaked with a bit of tinkering) and that certain achievements are failing to unlock. For example, after completing the game I went back to Olympus level 1 and completed the level using no abilities multiple times and the achievement would not unlock. The same occurred on Olympus level 2 and I haven't tried levels past this point. As for the levels, I love the different environments featuring Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades respectfully. I feel they really hit the mark and my only complaint in that regard would be that there isn't more. I hope that more levels can be added in the future re-exploring these realms (and potentially other characters), but it's completely understandable if more aren't planned. I also love the different abilities that can be used to achieve faster times on these levels, as well as the modifiers that can make these levels harder such as limited ability use and a death wall that follows you. I will surely return to complete the rest of the achievements if they are fixed as well as to try different combinations of modifiers and abilities to get faster times. TLDR Pros: - Movement is very responsive and smooth - Level design is great and took me multiple tries on some levels to learn some patterns and achieve under 2 minutes - Dialogue is cute and fits in with the tone and style of the game - The art style is appealing (slightly biased as a fan of Greek mythology - The different abilities and modifiers to spice the levels up more Cons: - You may run into some almost invisible spots that completely stop your movement and flow - Not all achievements are unlocking - May be too short for those unwilling to go back and mess with the modifiers
Feels a bit like Neon White but not nearly as good. The gameplay can be fun but has some problems. You tend to get stuck at the edge of objects sometimes being able to climb and sometimes not. The platforming feels floaty making it hard to stick the landing sometimes. The levels themself are hit and miss. Some parts are fun and even got some shortcuts, others can force you to wait or feel a bit confusing about where to go next. The characters are ok, but a bit annoying because they try to be funny all the time and they are not. The game's graphics look kinda bad but I personally don't mind. Overall it is not bad and seems to have a lot of content for a free game. Give it a try.
After an initial playthrough of the game I have a couple of thoughts. We'll talk about the issues first, as some of them are quite buggy in nature while others are a small problem with scope. There is quite a laundry list of noticeable issues regarding how the game feels as a platformer. As another reviewer mentioned, you get stuck on environment quite often, your speed slows down drastically on random bits of texture, much of it feels unpolished to an extent too. Animations are buggy and quite stiff, and Hermea's character model gets... weird.. at the end of levels sometimes. Her face bugs out like its all swollen and her arm seems to snap out of its socket. The abilities feel less like new tools in your arsenal and more a separate element in the game slapped on top of the mechanics that already exist. Like the game was designed for dashing first, and then all the other abilities were thrown on there just to have a list of them, instead of really curating well-defined abilities. Achievements for many things are broken, so it takes away the desire to achievement hunt. Beyond the issues, though, is quite a cute little platformer that I had some fun playing. All the levels are quite short and most of the set achievement times are not hard to beat using just the dash ability alone and a little manipulation of the physics. I quickly found a few techs that allow you launch yourself at ridiculous speeds that was quite fun using the side dashes, and honestly all this game needs is a little more polish to be exactly what it set out to be. It's fun, it's free, and it's made by a small team of students, many of which this is their first game. That's something to respect all on its own. I'd say give it a quick shot, you'll tell right in the tutorial if the game is worth playing or not for you, as the game doesn't get much more complex than the first 20 seconds.
Hermea is a slightly low poly 3D rendered third person action platformer. You have a couple of abilities to round out double jumping, sliding and doing everything you can to beat the clock. I guess first up the voice acting is, well, at best, really average. The character models look a little goofy. The game lacks a little polish around hit detection as you bump off walls in a not-so-great manner. But the game is smooth enough and well optimised. You also get customisable controls and graphics, so the basic requirements are met (unlike many thousands of for-profit mobile apps and console games on Steam that don't pay attention to the minimum standards for any PC game). While it's a little rough around some of the edges, I think this is on-par with for-profit speedrunners like SEUM: Speedrunners From Hell (if not perhaps a little better in some ways), but this is also completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. This is a product from a developer who put gamers first. I know speedrunners aren't a big genre, understandably, but given the price point and lack of glaring defects, I've got no choice but to give this a rare thumbs up for an indie developer that did the right thing. This is one of the best speedrunners on Steam (not that there's a lot of them), and you don't have to pay a cent. If you like speedrunners, here's a decent free one.
This game is great, lovely playful atmosphere with amusing characters, and challenging enough levels that it takes a few goes to get good times. Definitely worth a playthtough Gameplay https://youtu.be/mqZ2VVVRnAQ
