Pro: + Extremely solid visual presentation, the Mecha and character design is fantastic, the cutscenes are wonderfully directed and merge perfectly with the chibi style +Extremely fun gameplay, your mecha controls like a dream, responding immediately to your inputs as you blast your way a set of great levels and memorable boss battles +Good level of costumization between ranged weapons, ultimates, items and melee you can build your mecha however you want +Very likable cast of characters that push a very nice story forward, while the narrative is basically Gundam and Zone of the Enders fused together, Hardcore Mecha has quite a good set of its own memorable moment and quite a lot of epic set pieces in its narration. +Great Sountrack, i especially recommend listening to 'Frontline' and 'BurningBlood' Cons: - Sometimes the enemies can spawn almost directly on you giving you less than a split second to react, it can feel as bs especially if you are going for high scores - While super responsive, the controls can take a bit to get used to, especially with the amount of moves the Mecha can do Hardcore Mecha was a great surprise, a very impressive little 2D mecha action game that exudes passion for the genre, i bought to have something to play during 'down times' and couldn't stop pushing it until i saw the end credits, while not an 'Armored Core' game, if you like giant robots punching each other and a well told very anime story there is no reason to give this title a try. Recommended 8/10
Celebrating the anniversary of your game with AI slop and never put in a coop mode as promise in a kickstarter? What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ joke
Finished the game in around 6 hours for the story-mode. Story: Is fine. Nothing groundbreaking, but fine. Gameplay: Fun. well made. the missions bring in new variety all the time. Difficulty: Normal mode can't be played braindead and easy mode is there if you prefer mindless pew pew. Content: There is multiplayer and a wave-mode with a progression system for those who want more. I did not try multiplayer so no idea if that is even alive. The game is around 17€ and can be bought for far cheaper on sale. For the single digit € i payed, i gut my moneys worth and had a nice time.
Some of the graphics and character models look goofy and stupid - but if you can look past the sometimes stupid presentation you will find that Hardcore Mecha is a very good game. Good story telling, fantastic side scroller, lots of custom options for Mech builds etc. I wish the game was a bit more serious in its presentation. I dont know why they use chibi and goofy animations. But apart from that I can highly recommend the game.
Gotta say. I like this one. Feels nice. Its in 2d and works well in the medium. Stylized, and high quality in general. gud stuff

Little underwhelmed by this one. I was looking for more of a tight run and gun platform shooter. Maybe I got my hopes too high. This game has that generic Chinese/Asian cheap unity look that they all have. The animations are stiff and somewhat delayed. The characters have that chibi look to them. Couldn't get myself to care about the story with the long drawn out written dialogue with still frame images, as well as the cutscenes all in japanese voiceover. You do pick up a lot of cool guns but you only use them for 5-10 seconds before they run out of ammo and are useless. You get drip fed new weapons, and the main one looks the exact same throughout and only seems to do more damage and change fire rate, same with side weapon. Secondary weapon changes somewhat but I only unlocked 3 total. Seems like a large percentage of the main weapons and others you unlock are tied into the multiplayer or something i didn't notice because so many of them were still locked for me after I beat the game. The aiming is a bit slippery and finnicky, platforming as well. There useless janky melee you'll almost never use but its tied to what direction you're aiming, but when you try and boost or hover the direction you're facing somehow doesn't matter, and it only relies on the movement stick. This can be very confusing and unintitive and I constantly would find myself not boosting the direction I moved the aiming stick, and would then need to move both sticks in a certain direction and it just comes off as janky. Hitboxes are sometimes wonky. It just has this unpolished cheap feel. Environments all feel and look the same. Overall the game isn't bad, with multiple boss fights and a decent campaign length, and the characters are designed well enough. Supposedly there was a multiplayer component but thats dead so I'm basing this all on single player. I haven't played many gundam games but this one was just kind of mediocre and quite repetitive without much to change it up. 6/10.
HARDCORE MECHA is one of those games that immediately understands its audience. From the moment players launch into their first mission, it embraces the spectacle of giant robots with complete confidence. Developed by RocketPunch Games and published by RocketPunch Games and Lightning Games, this side-scrolling action title blends military science fiction, anime-inspired storytelling, and arcade combat into a package that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. It draws clear inspiration from decades of mecha entertainment, yet it avoids feeling derivative by placing a heavy emphasis on fluid gameplay and cinematic presentation. The campaign centers on a mercenary unit that becomes entangled in a conflict spanning multiple factions and locations beyond Earth. What begins as a relatively simple operation gradually expands into a larger tale involving political intrigue, hidden agendas, and escalating warfare. The narrative does not reinvent science fiction storytelling, but it succeeds because of its pacing and commitment to world-building. Characters are given enough personality to remain memorable, and the frequent dialogue exchanges help establish a setting that feels lived-in. Fans of classic mecha anime will recognize many familiar themes, including loyalty, sacrifice, and humanity's relationship with technology, all presented through stylish cutscenes and strong voice performances. Combat is unquestionably the centerpiece of the experience. HARDCORE MECHA delivers fast, satisfying action that balances weighty mech movement with impressive agility. Players can dash across battlefields, unleash barrages of missiles, engage enemies with close-range weapons, and switch tactics on the fly depending on the encounter. The controls are responsive and intuitive, making it easy to appreciate the game's combat depth without feeling overwhelmed. Mission variety is another major strength. One stage may have players navigating enemy installations, while another throws them into large-scale conflicts against towering bosses. The game even breaks away from mech combat at times by allowing players to fight on foot, adding welcome diversity to its overall structure. The Steam description highlights a large roster of unlockable mechs, and this feature significantly contributes to the game's longevity. Completing objectives and progressing through the story rewards players with resources that can be used to expand their collection. Each machine has its own strengths and combat style, encouraging experimentation and replayability. There is an evident appreciation for mecha history in many of these designs, with several units paying homage to iconic robot archetypes without sacrificing originality. Multiplayer further extends the experience with competitive battles that let players test their favorite machines against one another. Although the active player base is not as large as it once was, the inclusion of these modes demonstrates the developers' ambition to make HARDCORE MECHA more than a straightforward single-player adventure. Presentation is another area where the game consistently impresses. The sprite work is exceptionally detailed, with every mech displaying intricate animations during movement and combat. Explosions carry satisfying impact, environmental effects enhance the sense of scale, and boss encounters are staged with an energy that mirrors a high-budget animated series. The soundtrack complements the action well, alternating between intense battle themes and quieter moments that allow the story to breathe. Voice acting also elevates the experience, lending authenticity to the cast and helping the world feel more immersive. Despite its many strengths, HARDCORE MECHA is not entirely flawless. Some missions can feel longer than necessary, and the difficulty occasionally spikes without much warning. Players unfamiliar with action-heavy platformers may find certain encounters demanding, especially during later portions of the campaign. Likewise, the multiplayer component has naturally lost momentum over time, limiting its appeal for newcomers looking for a thriving online community. Fortunately, the quality of the single-player content is more than enough to justify the game's reputation. Few indie mecha titles manage to capture the fantasy of piloting a giant robot as effectively as HARDCORE MECHA. It combines excellent gameplay mechanics, impressive production values, and an evident passion for the genre into a memorable experience that remains highly enjoyable years after release. Whether players are longtime fans of mecha fiction or simply looking for a polished action game, HARDCORE MECHA delivers a thrilling ride that consistently earns its place among the standout titles in its category.
