About

Step into the Dreamlands, a parallel realm accessible only through dreams, teeming with bizarre native beings and entities long lost to the depths of nightmare. In this Lovecraftian roguelite FPS, you must navigate procedurally generated labyrinths, confront eldritch creatures, and face the ancient Outer Gods that dwell in the deepest folds of the dream.
You always craved more. Longed for greatness. For discoveries. Until you discovered something that no man should ever witness. A deal with the Crawling Chaos put you inside a never ending nightmare, forever cursing you to roam labyrinthian halls.

Find your way through randomly generated mazes, filled with unspeakable horrors. Exposure to the unnatural corrodes your mind. The lower your sanity, the more the world twists, distorting your perception, tricking your mind and altering mechanics. Be quick and do not get lost - each second spent in the labirynth lowers how much your brain can handle.

The Outer Gods are a central part of Halls of Nyarlathotep. Each biome features a unique entity that lurks in the space beyond the maze and culminates in an epic boss battle with one of the Dreamlands' resident deities - vast, unknowable beings whose presence alone is enough to shatter the mind.

Arm yourself with weapons as strange and otherworldly as the realm itself. These are no ordinary tools of war - each one is steeped in occult lore or inspired by pages of Lovecraftian fiction. Wield a revolver that fires tormented souls instead of bullets, swing a blood-hungry macuahuitl that grows stronger with each enemy it tastes, or brandish the Elder Sign to ward off the twisted things that should not be.
Alongside these relics, uncover occult Sigils - arcane spells that can guide your way, shield your mind, or unleash devastating power upon the creatures that hunt you.
Visit biomes inspired by works of H.P. Lovecraft, before he brought Cthulhu into the world. Travel icy plateau of Leng with its man-eating spiders and scale the mountain of Kadath where ancient gods dwell. Pray that cats from Ulthar will help you in your journey.

It's solid. I didn't get very far in it, only got to the first boss after boobing around on stream for over 3 hours (I suck at games), but it's definitely solid. The weapons aren't too numerous, but the upgrades you get for them are really cool. The visuals are honestly really cool. The sound design could use a bit of tweaking, but is overall pretty good. I'm unsure if this is an issue in further levels, but the first area is a bit too predictable, despite being procedurally generated. You spawn in a central square-shaped maze, and each side has a door to another small section of maze that can contain a key. And you repeat this three times, with floor 2 and 3 requiring 2 and 3 keys respectively. And if you suck, like me, you'll be repeating this a LOT. And it just felt a bit disappointing, I suppose, especially given this game is normally $15. I hope that things are different after the first area, and remain optimistic that this is just a first area issue. I look forward to what else this game holds, and will update my review as I complete more (unless I forget.) I wish Steam had a "like but wouldn't recommend" review option, as it IS pretty fun, but I don't know if $15, or even the $13.49 I spent on it, is worth it yet. We shall see.
Halls of Nyarlathotep (what a tongue twister!) is first and foremost a roguelite dungeon crawler in a Lovecraftian setting. You will be going through procedurally generated, maze-like levels, trying your luck and skill against a plethora of enemies and traps. Like many roguelites, it's not easy, but it is fun; even though it's still pretty early in its development cycle, it already gives me that "just one more quick round" feeling. I have to admit that I'm a sucker for Cthulhu-inspired settings, and this one delivers. It's hard to call this game "scary", especially considering its combat-oriented gameplay, but it has this eerie, unsettling vibe that scratches my itch perfectly. Those strange eyes following me everywhere around... geez. Love it. Overall, if it’s this addictive while still in the Early Access, it’s a must-play for roguelite-fps fans. Highly recommended!
A very interesting concept with a dense, immersive atmosphere. There aren't many games set in Lovecraft mythology, and those that do exist often revisit the same themes and stories, such as Innsmouth. Halls of Nyarlathotep tackles the Dreamlands — a much rarer subject in media and arguably the most fantastical aspect of Lovecraft's works. The game features plenty of original ideas, interesting weapons (the Boar!), and terrifying enemies, all blended into an engaging mix of Doom-style action and roguelike gameplay. It has great potential for future growth; a tremendous amount of work has clearly gone into it, and I sincerely hope it continues to be developed further.
A really solid Lovecraftian roguelike with a great atmosphere and a lot of potential. You can tell it was made by a small team, which makes the result even more impressive. The gameplay loop is genuinely addictive, and the dark, unsettling vibe works exactly as it should. If the developers keep supporting and expanding the game, this could easily become a solid addictive game.
Only started and I am not that into roguelikes, but man, the graphics are staggering. Even if I feel like a drunk noob shooting beams into the nightmares, it feels like the best experience on screen in 2026.
