Gyelfars is a simplistic Steam Early Access turn based strategy game slapped together with the godawful Godot engine, giving GameMaker Studio a run for the money in terms of shovelware generators plaguing the gaming industry. There's a mild anime theme that doesn't really make a lot of sense, nor is it particularly interesting apart from being notably generic. There's no proper tutorial or guidance so it's a challenge to the prospective gamer to decide whether it's worth bothering to work how to play the game at all (Spoiler: It's not). The game is new in Early Access, less than a month, but it hasn't been updated since launch. Still, it's too early to say whether this is in Development Hell yet... but the very rough state of the game at launch does not give much hope. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the Godot game engine/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it's free (so they don't have to pay for GameMaker Studio) and doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's arguably worse than GameMaker Studio). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The game is currently free, but the developers intend to charge money for it, whether this factors into any decision to add this to your library, but right now, there's not enough of a game for this to be worthwhile.

Terrible game! I'm glad it crashed right after the first mission. However, the fairies and the menu music are lovely. However, I decided to give this game a chance. I made it to the third mission, spent a whole hour struggling there, and began to appreciate the depth of the developer's intent - to mock the players. After all, in no other way can you create something so repulsive and poorly designed. In the third mission, with an army of 10 fairies, the objective was to eliminate 40 enemy units, proudly indicating the victory condition as 'kill the leader' without even adding that leader as an enemy.

Before I played Gyelfars, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
