Somehow cromulent short form -vania. Pixel art is charming, Movement is somewhat crude, but precise and responsive, I like the speed. Combat is kind of sluggish otoh, can't interrupt animations, they're kind of slow. Weird contrast. Should really add a miniboss for the upgrade, fighting two dragonflies is a bit anticlimatic. Pretty nice game, you can finish in half an hour tops.

Guns & Thorns is a western style pixel art platformer. This game was of such high quality due to great controls and amazing animations and should get much more recognition!
Strengths
- Movement controls are polished. They are snappy, precise, and fluid. - Stunningly Beautiful pixel art foregrounds and backgrounds - Animations are fluid and pixelated well - Great UI that fit the style - Features 5 enemy types and 1 boss - Short yet sweet game that takes 20-40 minutes to complete
Potential Improvements
- I just thought the green guys were ridiculously slow attacking me making it easy - (minor bug) After the credits rolled the “leave game” button didn’t work (I am keyboard player)
if I didn't have my friends watching me play I wouldn't have bothered finishing it, and that only took me 14 minutes. the camera makes you blind to every fall. the only way you're ever getting hit by a melee enemy is by your own attack locking you into an animation that seemingly makes you experience slow motion every time you use it. the enemies have long wind-up times with no sideswap correction so you can just see their attack start up, switch sides, and their attack will whiff so you get to whale on them for free. that strategy works for every melee enemy in the game including the boss, so that was pretty boring. it's a platformer because you jump from platform to platform. it's a metroidvania because you go back to the previous room to progress (once). I really like how one reviewer put the movement; it's "crude". it doesn't feel good, and that's with me willingly completing Getting Over It seventy times. I barely used my gun. Where are the thorns. the game is palatable only because it's short, and I still would've quit midway. the cutscenes were cool tho.
A short and sweet platformer/metroidvania. Nice art and animations. Missing some expected features and had some small bugs. Runs perfectly on Linux.
W game but spikes in the room to the right of the shop has spikes on the upper part that if you fall into it respawns you in the wall
game was alot of fun, combat was simple but enjopyable, platforming was fairly easy with several secrets i did run to to a few glitches, controller support wouldnt work at first but then just started working half way thru (could be something on my end tbh) thers also a certain area were if u die u respawn in the wall and have to restart the game. tho the game was super short so it wasnt really a big deal and was a mild annoyence at most
This game was a lot of fun and much more than I was expecting for a free-99 game. Its short and sweet and the soundrack is nice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I played this again today and figured I'd talk more detail. The combat is pretty simple, you can either slash or shoot, and enemies have pretty simple movements as well, getting a little more variety towards the end. Avoiding damage boils down to baiting the enemy and then attacking between their attacks. If this was a longer game, I'd expect that this might grow old but for the length of this game it's just short sweet and satisfying. (also if this was going to be a longer game I'd doubt that the combat would remain this simple.) Difficulty-wise I think the enemies should move just a little faster for my tastes. (I have played a fair bit of Hollow Knight and Silksong if that helps put my skill level somewhere I wouldn't consider myself super good at these kinds of games but not a beginner either). The platforming is pretty simple but there are some that were challenging to time properly, which was fun. I will say that I wish the movement was a little less responsive, especially when jumping. It was very easy to overshoot some of the simple platforms which got a little annoying. (maybe this is a skill issue idk). I liked the map. I'll be honest I don't have a lot to say here. I enjoyed finding the secrets (I don't think I found them all). And the rewards behind finding secrets were good. Also I understated before how much I like the soundtrack. It really ties the whole vibe together. I hope this creator releases more games : )
good but there is no option to change keybinds, it also does not save when you quit out
pretty fun game the only thing that confused me the first upgrade for the bullet chambers worked but every other i found never worked other then that pretty fun I'd recommend
