This looked like a pretty interesting game except for one important thing. Your character is only about 3/16 of an inch. It's very difficult to see even at 1920 X 1080 res. It's hard on the eyes. I wish they would enlarge the character and I would play it then. It's very similar to Terraria but Terraria's character is large enough to where you won't lose sight of them. I'm a little older so maybe this is alright for younger eyes. For that reason alone I personally can't recommend this title.
Pretty slow and boring, then suddenly overwhelming. With more players it might feel like more fun in the beginning and more tractable later on, but you'll need to rely on your friends for this because no one is ever online publicly. Slow and Boring ----------------- The player character feels like an inconsequential little mote in a map that is inevitably going to destroy him, and that's not a very fun experience. I can think of a few things that contribute to this feeling: - Many pitiful weapons. Some of the weapons and buffs do add some player agency, but it takes a while to get them. Some are so buggy that I feel robbed when I finally do invest in them (EX: claymore). - The player character is very slow moving, so it takes forever to traverse a relatively small map. - His pickaxe is painfully slow, so it just feels like a dumb slog during the initial phase, especially considering the player's movement speed. Few Players ------------ Every game mode felt insanely empty or just plain impossible with only a two or three players. It would be nice if there were other game modes (or variations of the existing ones) that were better designed for few players. There just aren't enough people that know about this game to make public online play any fun when the game modes all ache for a ton of players.
Holy crap get this game to play with your friends. I'll write a better review soon.
The Better Review
(WIP) I grew up playing games like this on SEGA, and they've always been a hell of a lot of fun with friends. Anything that brings that loungeroom fun back, and does it with online multiplayer gets my vote instantly. Ultimately, my best comparison from my childhood would have to be Liero, that real-time worms game that ran on DOS. Easily played at school because it would fit on a single floppy disk. I can't believe I just typed that, I haven't mentioned floppies in so, so long. Gun Bombers is actually faster paced than I realised; my first game, I ran into the other player with a pistol and clicked my mouse to fire; shoot..... shoot... .. shoot, shoot shoot. The realisation that it plays more like Soldat or Crimsonland than .. Something much slower, was surprising to me, I don't know why. I guess I looked at it and expected bomberman, a game of timing and strategy, when in fact it's an action game. I only mention this in case some of you haven't realised this, as I hadn't. In a nutshell, you have multiple rounds where you have to divide your time between trying to kill the other players and mining for minerals to gain currency to be spent buying weapons before the next round. Surprisingly similar to Counter-Strike if it also had random piles of cash around the map which you could go for prior to planting the bomb. Honestly, there's not too much I can say about the game. It plays great and feels very solid. I guess there are a few things about it that I'd like to see improved: • The UI is based on its spiritual precursor, a SNES(?) game, so there's of room for improvement there. Weapon selection included. • The digging mechanic; having to aim in the direction you want to dig was annoying at first, but became second nature after a few matches. I still find myself accidently digging while running toward or away from someone, would be nice to have to confirm an intent to dig, a key or something. • Mines and claymores are not visible to enemies and can be placed without any real warning to other players. They slow the pace of the game due to their lethality. My friends and I always have these disabled. • Zoom. I love the zoom feature, but feel I am disadvantaged when using it, so it is rather redundant. If larger maps were ever going to be a thing, I'd like to see everyone forced to the same zoom level, not necessarily being able to view the entire map at once. To be completed.
Everything's tiny making it really hard to see anything. Looks like a game that might've been good in 1995 or something. Thought there was potential judging by the screenshots but it's just very slow and boring to play, at least I couldn't get into it at all.
Aivan mahtavaa saada legendaarisesta Mine Bombersista tämän päivän versio! Nopealla kokeilulla Gun Bombers herätti vanhat muistot erittäin hyvin mieleen, mutta erilainen tähtäys ja ampumasysteemi tuo mukanaan paljon opeteltavaa perinteisen taktikoinnin sijaan. Eniten kokemuksesta jäi harmittamaan ettei pelistä löydy vanhaa kunnon paikallista 4 pelaajan hotseat peliä! Mikä sen parempaa tunnelmaa kuin 2-8 kaveria telkkarin äärellä ohjaimet kourassa koittaa saada isoon ääneen toista hengiltä! :D Kenttäeditoria jäin kaipaamaan, valmiit tai itse tehdyt pulmalliset kentät lisäsivät napin painalluksesta yllätyksiä joihin oli vaikea varautua. Parannusehdotuksia: - 2-8 pelaajan hotseat - Täydellinen ohjaintuki - Kenttäeditori - Ehkä jopa perinteisen MB:n 4:n suunnan ampumatapa omana Prehistoric pelityylinä :D - Co-op pelimuoto
I loved the original Mine Bombers and has always wanted a new release of it, but version 2 never came... I even started making my own clone. But this one is better than what my work would have been, it has great LAN support and I can finally enjoy playing such a game again! It is great work, keep it up! The level graphics could maybe be made to look better though, like rounded corners on the mountains and whatnot.
This game is pretty awsome just like the Devs who are working on it! I enjoy playing this with my friends and I'm glad Nollakaks, Facechild, and the Devs introduced it to me. I should play it more often lol. Anyways, gameplay for me was a bit difficult to get used to at first (key bindings are the worst for me even when I change them), and skill is definately needed if you wanna survive the onslaught. I tend to get murdered or suicide frequently. It reminds me of Bomber Man of the good old days but with its own uniqueness. I am looking forward to the new mapmaking and future content. Keep up the good work Devs! 11 out of a possible 5
This is game of the year! Fun ;)
