GT Racing 1980

This is a top-down view racing car game, and I could play using joystick or keyboard, I loved the 80's sound track. Tutorials were good, but really enjoyed the in-game levelling up and increasingly challenging circuits. There is a story line as well which was amusing, and loved being able to customise the car(s) and get them more powerful as the game wore on. Great fun altogether, and would totally recommend.

Great game, brilliant game play and graphics, great nostalgia too. I liked the Lambo.

How can I say It's bad without saying It's bad ?

The driving isn't as good as other games of the genre, seems like a heavy grind ahead after fully upgrading the first car. Rage quitting for now without refunding.

This is a really fun little game - I'd highly recommend it. I really like the retro 80's vibe - the soundtrack is great and the characters you meet are fun too. The start of the game is quite easy - I was progressing through the Division 3 quite fast. As soon as I upgraded to the faster car, things got tougher. The races get quite challenging and the car took a while to get used to. Overall, really enjoyed it so far and hoping they add some online modes.

A friend of mine bought a Fanatical bundle that included this game. He's not a racing game guy; but, he knows that I am so he gave me the key. I'm not sure if I should check the "Received product for free" box or not because I received it for free; but, it was not given to me by the developer or publisher. Somebody paid for it. With that out of the way, I have a few thoughts to share. It's not a perfect game by any stretch; but, it is a fun game. I've put a little over 12 hours into it so far and I've pretty much beaten it. I've unlocked and bought all the cars. I've won all three Divisions, beat all the Rivals, and conquered all of the Invitational races. It only started getting boring within the last hour, and that consisted of me replaying a few things trying to figure out why the Achievement didn't work. What I Like: > The graphics and camera options look really good for what they are. It's retro without being painfully so. It has modern shadows and textures. I really like the option of a modern rally style rear mounted camera, although the 80's side-mount camera works well too. Another graphical flourish that I like is that each car has a custom tachometer and speedometer which is themed to match those found in the real life cars that inspired the fictional cars in-game. > Physics are interesting. The cars are varying degrees of tail-happy. You can tame this easily by upgrading the "rear traction" in the Tuning menu and not touching the front. They'll still oversteer on command; but, you can manage it. It's rewarding to drive. > I also like that the developers gave the cars some heft AND made the player's car roughly equal in weight to the AI cars. This game often turns into a demolition derby because the AI is aggressive; but, it doesn't feel cheap or unfair because you can give as good as you get. This has been top-of-mind because I picked up "Grid Legends" recently and I've been playing through it off and on. It has been somewhat of a disappointment because the game promotes pack racing and the AI is tuned to be aggressive about bumping; but, the player's car is featherweight compared to the competition and incidental contact can send you careening off track. Yet, you can't retaliate or defend yourself because you have no weight. That's not an issue here. > I really like that the game is straightforward. That's the most 80's part of the game. No management, no team goals, no deep tuning menus. Just buy cars, buy performance upgrades, try to finish first to win more money to buy more cars and upgrades. That's it. And I like that simplicity. What Could Be Improved: > The Steam Achievement for this game doesn't work. It doesn't help that it is named "TEST_ACHIEVEMENT" and the description is also "test_achievement". Maybe I missed something along the way? How would I know? I beat the game though. I finished first in every Division, Invitational, and Rivalry. I don't know what more it needs. If you're part of the 0.8% who have the achievement, please drop me a comment letting me know what you did to get it. > This game is buggier than a Louisiana swamp. Besides the Achievement bug, the other big bug I'm experiencing is that I am currently unable to replay Division 1 and Division 2 fully. After completing the first six races of each the game congratulates me on winning Division 3, gives me $15k cash for winning D3, and terminates the rest of the series. Luckily, I was able to fully beat D1 and D2 the first time through. I was replaying the Divisions to get money to finish buying the cars so I could do the Invitational and Rivalry races when this popped up. > There is no way to adjust rendering resolution in-game. My monitor is a 4k panel because I need the resolution for Word docs. My PC can't run most games, including this one, in 4K while maintaining a reasonable frame-rate. This game selects for 4K automatically. It's an easy enough fix; just go into Windows Display Settings and change the Display Resolution to 1080p, and then change it back when I'm done. It's annoying though. I'd much rather set it once in the game itself and forget it, like I do with every other game that I own. > I wish it had Steam Cloud saves so I could easily play this game on my AYN Thor at work using GameHub. This game would be a natural fit for a mobile device. I know to manually copy over saves; but, it's so slick when Steam does it for me. I hope that can be added with a future update. Fun Fact: > This game has an undocumented first person view. It's not finished by any stretch; but, if you want to try it press ALT + C on your keyboard during a race. In Conclusion: > As a gift from a friend this game hit the spot and I enjoyed my time with it. Would I pay, or suggest that you pay, the $13 it costs regularly? No. It's too buggy. Currently though, it's $5 as part of the Steam Spring Sale and it is definitely worth that. If you can get it in a Fanatical or Humble Bundle for a couple of bucks I think that would be awesome too. This game does a lot right; the physics, graphics/art style, and music were all great decisions. The people involved should be proud of it, in my opinion, and I hope they continue to develop it.

I would say abandonware, entertaining for just a bit but nothing more.

As a fan of driving games and after playing this for quite a while with an early access code i have grown to enjoy this lovely indie game. Its graphics give a grainy retro feel, but the game-play feels modern. For me it was a great blend of old and new; arcade graphics with a more realistic feel. The game was easy to get into at the start, however some of the rivals were a challenging bout. Overall the game looks great, handles well and the career mode +rivals are fun. There's definitely enough to play so far, but i would love to see a drift mode in the future. The upgrade system could use some tweaking and the UI can be improved, but i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed this game. This game would be great for all racing game fans, but it does offer a unique challenge unseen in most recent games. With low grip upgrades and high speed improvements your car will slide but if you balance it with enough cash its fun. Drifting is difficult to accomplish but with enough skill you can master the performance, (the gymkhana track helped a lot with this lol)

GT Racing 1980 is pure fun and nostalgia rolled into one. It throws you into the flashy, neon-drenched vibes of the 80s with cool retro cars and challenging tracks. The gameplay is simple but addictively fast-paced—easy to pick up, hard to put down. The top-down perspective and fast-paced mechanics provides a very fun experience. Retro aesthetic, with colorful, well designed environments, captures the era's charm. If you love classic racing games with a modern twist, this is a must-try.

Cute game. I like the music that create such a nice vibe and the races are fun for like a short arcade game. I would suggest trying the game if you want to try something new
