Note: you can no longer buy this game on steam ******POTENTIAL SPOILERS****** If you want a short review go to the bottom for a summary. Glass wing is a 3D puzzle-platformer game where you play as a little fairy type creature called Mayfly. The game seems to be influenced from classic titles such as Orcarina of Time on the N64. The game took me about 3-4 hours to finish, although short I do highly recommend purchasing this game. It seems basic at first but give it a chance and you find yourself pleasently suprised with what it offers you. So after starting (I won't ruin the other thing that happens :P) you will find yourself feeling like Link, minus the green, the sword, the flute, and you seem to be a bigger version of his fairy. Alot of the beginning if traversing through some basic landscapes and getting introduced to the controls and certain elements of the game you will be seeing. After a while you will notice you are picking up some glass wings that Mayfly lost in the beginning, collecting a number of these will start to give Mayfly some interesting abilities. A good point to make it once you acquire a new ability, you will find you need to use it quite often, unlike other typical games where you may only use it for the area you are in and then barely ever again. I find it nice where the game will build on what you have and force you to use everything to get further. Using 'tools' you will find along the way you will be required to use them to help you solve some puzzles and continue through the game. You cannot put away items and you can only hold one item at any given time. Be aware that certain moves will cause you to drop your weapon, which is a nice feature. Puzzles in the game are pretty clever and fun to interact with, I found myself rather impressed by a few of them. They will make you uses tools as often as possible, one in particular has a feature I didn't expect. The landscape has some elements that will block your path or try to hinder you in certain scenarios, you will come across electric orbs and flooring, sludge, thorns and a couple of others. In certain scenarios they will be more annoying that others. Monsters in this game are all dino-like, and they vary a little bit. Every monster is this game has aim hax (not kidding xD), stay clear as much as you can, although they will come for you within a certain distance. You can kill monsters (more effort than it's worth), but after a while you do get a nice health bar, also there is plenty of health around so you shouldn't die to monsters really. The game's landscapes and levels are very nice and well thought out. The music is very nice to listen to and I found that each track suited the part of the game it was assigned to. Also I found the boss monster to be very impacting on this game, it made me want to run away all the time, maybe due to the first encounter you have with it. Overall I think this is a very nice game to play and you really feel you are playing something from the 90's, if you grew up in that period of time you will really enjoy this. Pros + Simple game that feels like a blast from the past. + Will keep you playing, keeps adding new elements to stop the repetitive feeling. + Interesting move set which you will enjoy using. + Easy controls + Great soundtrack + If you grew up in the 90's you should enjoy this Cons - Monsters hack :( - The big monster also hax ;__; - I got some slow down, usually when initially running the game, doesn't ruin the experience though. - A single glitch is on the 3rd last section, there is an error message and you will not lose progress. - If you are a graphics gamer (you know who you are) you might not appreciate this game.

Playing status: finished the game
Intro
Glass Wing is a 3D platformer game with puzzle elements. Join the adventure of Mayfly to traverse through the unknown, avoiding the dangerous enemies along the way. Pros: - Clever usage of switching tools to clear the obstacles blocking your way Cons: - Platformer elements require you to be very precise in some areas - Flying ability is hard to control - Sometimes it's hard to know where to go next - No manual save and autosave is very far from each other - You automatically jump whenever you reach the edge of a cliff Specs Intel Core i5-9300H 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
Should you buy this game?
No. Due to numerous issues that the game has, I can't recommend the game as of now.

In-Depth Review

Visuals
The game doesn't seem to care much about realism. I wasn't talking about the outdated graphics, but it's more about the correlation between each area. While the environment switch from the first area that appears like your home to a dark, cave-like area at the start makes sense due to what happened in the cutscene, the next few areas will make you wonder where you are supposed to be. There is a door, yes, a door, at the end of a rocky area, which will lead to a place that I assumed as space due to its black background with twinkling stars and something that looks like a moon in it. This "space" area also feels like a complete mess, especially seeing that it only consists of a lot of objects that are placed together as a way to pass through.
Story
There is only one cutscene that is happening at the start of the game. It surprised me a bit when it happened due to the sudden appearance of one character, which talks way too much. You don't need to know the character's motive, especially if it's coming from someone whom you just know a few seconds after you start the game. There isn't any conclusion to the story either, which leaves the story up to your interpretation.
The Game
"Main Menu" To be honest, I was confused with the game at the start. The main menu is combined with the gameplay - you need to choose one out of three paths at the start to select a save file slot and choose whether to go to the left or right to start a new game or load your save. Moreover, the game seems to have a save file stored already - loading a save as soon as you start the game will bring you to the area that is located near the beginning of the game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2472266412 Platformers The game starts as a platformer, allowing you to jump between the platforms to reach the exit. Sometimes, you'll have to jump between platforms with an endless pit beneath you, reducing your heart by one if you fail the jump. Although you'll be forced to reload your save from the latest checkpoint if you run out of hearts, the game is quite forgiving in this regard. Collectible hearts are abundant throughout the game, and you can pick up at least one before attempting the jump. The platformer section has its problems though. You'll automatically jump whenever you reach an edge of the cliff, forcing you to position your character. This starts to be problematic when you are standing on a narrow platform with an endless pit below you - I couldn't count how many times I died because of this. This section will also become more annoying as time goes, forcing you to time your jump as precise as possible to reach the other platform several times. This just adds unnecessary difficulty and annoyances to the game. Puzzles You'll encounter some tools along the way, allowing you to pass through some obstacles. This will change the gameplay into a more puzzle-oriented one, with you having to figure out how these objects are supposed to work. Since you can only bring one tool at a time, you're bound to look for the same tools several times as time goes. Some of them are placed in tricky places, forcing you to think hard to get them. While most solutions are clever, some are not obvious enough, making them hard to solve. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2472258626 Enemies The game has enemies, but they are impossible to kill. Sure, you can use your tool to hit them, but you'll be more likely to die before you can kill them. Your character has a very slow attacking speed and low damage, and a single hit is not enough to bring them down. Moreover, there doesn't seem to be an invisibility frame after you get hit - you can get hit several times before you can move if you are unlucky. There seems to be some sort of prevention from getting soft locked until you die though, as there is always room to get away before that happens. Length and Difficulty I finished the game in 3.8h with some idled time in. The game doesn't support manual save and the autosave doesn't happen often, so I was forced to leave the game running whenever I had to do other business that I can't delay. The game isn't difficult apart from the annoying platformer sections that require you to jump at precise timings. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2472259668 Problems The flying ability is hard to control - you'll move in circles if you keep on pressing the up button. I didn't understand how the ability works at first, forcing me to rely on other abilities to get through places. It is also hard to hit a target with your tool, especially with the spear. Lastly, pressing the Esc button will automatically move you to the "main menu" without confirmation, while pressing it again in the "main menu" will close the game.
Conclusion
To be honest, I didn't expect much from the game at first. I played it since I saw that some reviews on the Steam page mention that it resembles Legend of Zelda, which I found to be hard to believe after I played the game. The only similarities between both games are the use of hearts and breakable pots, which is only a small part of the Zelda game. As a standalone game, I liked the puzzle section - the mechanic to use different tools to get the job done is designed cleverly. It was fun exploring the areas, looking for what I could do to get through the level. However, the enemies and vast areas don't mesh well with this, while the lack of information on some mechanics might leave some people stumped. The platformer section is the reason why I can't recommend the game. There are just too many problems with it, and most areas only exist as a way to connect between two areas. This section could benefit from some rework and improvements, or cut completely to make it a more puzzle-oriented game.
Visit SaveOrQuit.com for detailed game reviews, posted daily!
A very hesitant recommendation. First off, the game has severe issues. The launcher and controller configuration utility is broken it is so hard to use. The camera is also very hard to control. It feels more like a super early alpha than anything. However, the chararacter movement and animations are well done and it actually feels like you are playing Mario 64. If they can make the early levels a bit more easy to digest it would be a great little game. I found myself lost and confused early on. I'm not sure if I was heading down a dead end or not, and there is an impossible room without any real instruction. But I could have just been missing something. I'm going to give the game a positive review but if a few months from now if the controller configuration menu is still broken I would have to say it's something worth missing out on. They are on to something good here and I hope this evolves. Me stumbling around, lost and confused: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9bhYjOagCE
-got stuck on a mushroom -camera controls are a joke -for some reason the game lags if I don’t have a controller plugged in when it starts up -got stuck walking up a hill -the cut scene play speed and audio don’t match up +kinda fun.....
Alright without spoiling the story for everyone -
Pros:
+ Graphics + Story + Gameplay (Its a puzzle platformer) + The progression + The music + The voice acting
Cons:
- The monsters AI is a little overkill - The big monster AI is even more OP - Its short
Thoughts:
It plays and feels a lot like The Legend of Zelda, that must be what they were going for. You get many abilities throughout the game and most of them are really useful. You collect your Glass Wings and everyone you collect gives you health and sometimes an ability. The controlls are fine, I wish there was an easier way to change them but there isn't. Auto jump sucks. There is no point to change the controlls anyway, it doesn't seem to keep the changes you make (Scratch that! It was user error not game error!). The end portion of the game is a little annoying, it will take several times to do, and ontop of a known glitch in that part, can get a little annoying.
TL;DR
Its a fun game, its worth 5 dollars. Buy it. 8/10
Wertung:
6/10 Atmosphäre 5/10 Story 6/10 Grafik 6/10 Sound 6/10 Spielmechanik 6/10 Balancing 6/10 Spielspass
Fazit:
Wie Glas etwas dünn und zerbrechlich.
6/10 Gesamtwertung
Alright, so I just bought the game and haven't been able to dive in really deep quite yet, but already it is absolutly stunning. I would, and DO recomend this game! The artwork is beautiful, I have always loved the older game styles of the N64 and the GameCube, and this game brings that back to us. As someone has already stated, the AI is a little overkill, but that's like that for a reason. Now like any game it has its kinks, and not any of the good kinds. The controls were a little wonky for the keyboard at least. Let me tell you now that H is the use key (there may have been other keys for the use button! I just got frustrated at not finding them quick enough and changed them quickly), and like most Indie games, it's not flawless and its definately not seemless. However even the fact that it's not seemless brings back some old memories of how the older games used to be made. Also like most Indie games, from what I gather, this is also a fairly short game. Now the wonky controls can easily be changed. When you go to start up the game it will ask you if you want to start the game or configure controls. BE WARNED! When you change your controls, it wasn't set up 100% accurately. When you assign the Left and Right keys, switch them around. It assigns the Left key to the right and vice versa. So whether it be for nostalgia of older style games, the art work, looking for a puzzle and/or platformer, or even just looking for a game to blow your last $5 on, I highly recommend this game! One last bit of advice if you get the game, Look everywhere, Avoid everything. Final Rating 9/10 Note to Developer: This game truely is amazing, music included. If you could put out a soundtrack for sale that would be fantastic! And thank you SOOOO MUCH for puting this game out! This really is a piece of art! I look forward to more games from you in the future from you!
After playing the first 10 minutes, I've noticed a few issues and poor features of the game. The first one is the strict platformer mechanics where even a single inch of land missed when you land and you're dead. Your character also has an auto-jump feature whenever she reaches the edge of a platform, which can be annoying when you're not intending to jump off. And lastly the auto-save feature sucks when they are so far away between each other on the map; there's no way to save manually. The graphics matches that of the early 2000s games like OoT and Majora's mask; it brings about a nostalgic feel, as well as the audio and BGM. But alas, the poor controls and bugs are the main downfall of the game, and is why I cannot recommend playing Glass Wing.
