Don't do it. Wonky controls really messed up the game. When you try to aim at an actual enemy, it doesn't direct the shot. Great concept for a game but yet the design and controls are not there for the finished product. Had it on my wish list for a long time, hate to write a review like this.

The whole premise of the game revolves around a long-lost ship, which has been re-discovered. A black ops unit has been sent out to investigate the situation onboard the ship. For the most part, the game plays out very well according to the survival horror plot. The game features many survival and horror scenarios such as life support systems, having to collect and manage oxygen tanks, etc. Plot: The year is 2359. Somewhere in Icarus 4, Icarus system, a long lost ship has been re-discovered. It is said that the ship, Heckle and Tomes, started its journey with a fleet of ships carrying cargo to settle in a new galaxy far from home. There were 6,000 people on board Heckle and Tomes during that journey but the ship did not make it. The ship was lost until today. A detachment of the CDF black ops unit was sent to investigate the ship. The CDF unit, upon visual contact, confirms that the auxiliary power system was running but that the ship remains dormant. No one answered the radio calls from the CDF unit. Finally, they decided to investigate the ship by boarding it. Upon docking with the ship, the CDF unit noticed something was wrong; the lights were off, the guidance systems were off, and there were no signs of the crew or the passengers. Upon further investigation, the CDF unit discovered untouched foods and supplies. The people on board are surely long gone. But where are the dead bodies? Suddenly they hear noises coming from every direction, and from the dark corridors humanoid figures start to appear. Before they can figure out what is going on, they are attacked. These creatures look like people but they attack in waves without remorse, without fear. The Black ops unit of CDF is about to confront a rude awakening about the crew of Heckler and Tomes. Gameplay: Ghostship Chronicles uses a traditional FPS-style gameplay with strong survival-horror elements, and a great deal of exploration built-in as well. Actually, you will not survive unless you explore and gather much-needed items. Ghostship Chronicles features a basic WASD movement machines that work just fine in narrow corridors. Most of the game plays out in narrow corridors and wide hallways. As you progress through these narrow corridors and hallways, waves of infected crew and passengers of Heckler and Tomes will attack you. Right off the bat, you will only have a service rifle and some grenades to defend yourself. That reminds me, grenades in this game are op af. At the beginning, I kept dying for some unknown reason; turns out, I accidentally hit G and the op Grenade blew up. Even though was quite a distance away, it was not enough. As the waves of infected depleted my ammo, I was forced into the dark corridors and rooms in search of items and ammo. Thankfully, there were decent amounts of items available nearby. Gunplay: For the most part the gunplay in this game worked just fine. However, I was a bit disappointed with the animations and the gun models. There are 4-5 different types of weapons available in-game and all of the weapons within a category have only minor differences. For example, the rifle and the sniper rifle look the same except for the fact that the sniper rifle has a scope on it. Inventory management: As a survival game, inventory management plays an important role throughout the game. There were many items to look for and collect. Collecting items in exploration and survival games is fun, and each item has its own unique use. Ghostship Chronicles is no different, although a poor lighting system in-game and awkward yellow-tinted highlighted items managed to suck some of the fun out of item collection. An odd thing I noticed is that you cannot use a lot items after collection without going through your inventory. This needs to change, as we cannot be expected to browse the inventory during an attack. Imagine having to reach back to your inventory each time you need an item that does not have a key assigned to it. World design: The world design for Ghostship Chronicles was pretty well on point for the most part. The dark, greasy and humid environment of the ship matched the theme of the game perfectly. Although for the most part the Ghostship Chronicles did a good job on the map layout (for a large ship that doesn’t have proper navigation or markers), being an early access game, I’d like to see more work put into this aspect, along with some more work on the world design and details. Lighting was a big deal-breaker for me. The game started in the right direction with its dark environment, including some areas with Mainor lighting and some lit by emergency red lights. But the only source of proper lighting (until you fix things up) is your weapon-mounted flashlight, and even that has issues, such as going dark in places where you cannot even see a hand in front of your face, and some too bright for a flashlight. In the year 2359, a unit of Black ops operators should have a decent night vision from the get-go. Sound effects: Another deal-breaker for me was all of the audio issues, especially with the shotguns. The sound effects in-game need some serious retouching. Considering all aspects, the game itself is enjoyable, with an interesting plot and backstory. The gameplay is decent as well. With a few more dedicated hours and updates, I believe this game has a lot of potential. Positives: + Decent plot + Fun gameplay + Decent gunplay + Strong survival horror elements + Theme appropriate world design + Atmospheric Negatives: - Lighting issues - Animation issues - Quite a few bugs and glitches - Sound effects need some work - Poor gun and NPC modeling What seemed like a regular investigation mission turned into something horrific. Now survival is the only thing you should care about. 6/10 Key provided by the developer/publisher for review purposes. Any opinions expressed are entirely my own! Year: 2359 Planet: Icarus 4 Ship: Thomas and Heckel ETA: 00:03 Our Squad arrived on the „Thomas and Heckel“. This Colonization Ship disapeared many Years ago and was found in the Orbit of Icarus 4. No Signal, no Lifesign. We were send to find out what happened. It seems the whole Ship lies in the Dark. Thanks to the lights on our Weapons , we were able to continue fastly through this endless floors. Found also some Notes from Crewmembers. Something bad happened here…. ETA: 00:12 I get Goosebumps. How can a big Ship like this be so silence? We hear nothing, absolutly nothing, besides us. I have a bad feeling about this. ETA: 00:21 I was right! We were attacked from some Kind of Zombies. They surprised us and we nearly lost Valenko, but he was lucky we were fast enough to help him. Those creatures. They are wearing clothes from Crewmembers and Colonists. Poor Souls. ETA: 00:27 The floors are covered with some kind of organic…. Flesh and some kind of big Eggs. Wait, there is something in the Dark…. And ist coming closer! ETA:00:29 This is a Nightmare. A damn Nightmare! They are coming from everwhere! EVERYWHERE! Covering Valenko and Krillon, no sign of Lannings, presume Dead. My Name is Cabello and this may be my last ent….Raaaargh…. Welcome to GHOSTSHIP CHRONICLES. The first time i played a Game like this it was in the 80`s, it was called FEDERATION QUEST 1: BSS JANE SEYMOUR and you were send to repair and rescue Ships from enemy Lifeforms. Well was a nice Game, but not famous enough for a Second Part. Then Years later i played ALIEN TRILOGY and that was one Hell of Atmosphere . Endless Floors and mostly you don`t hear them coming. And not to forget the Game i loved most. SPACE HULK (Not the Strategy Game). Commanding a Squad of Troopers through narrow floors, knowing that behind each Corner something bad maybe waiting for you. Impressive Voiceover of the Squadmembers. Why do i tell you that? Because GHOSTSHIP CHRONICLES feels like a great Mix of them. In First or Third Person with the Help of 3 Squadmembers you have to find out what happened on the Colonization Ship. You dont have to control your members, they are following you, but you have to keep them alive. Yes, there will be blood. MUCH Blood! And always keep in Mind, if a Member die, he stays dead. To make it easier there is a great Variety of Weapons and usefull Items you can find while you proceed through the Game. You can also upgrade your Weapons. There is nice Story that enfolds Chapter after Chapter and you are also able to get different Endings, depending on how long and how many Squadmembers survive. Overall the Game may feel a little bit short, but the different Endings and the Random Item Placing on each Run make this Game more replayable. While playing, i have no problems with the Controls using Mouse and Keyboard. Also in Moments when you get Waves of Enemys. Fast Weapon changing and fast and fluid Crosswire Moving are making this a nice Action Experience. But what i most love is the Atmosphere. Playing it at Night with Headphones was one Hell of a Trip. Nice done Moviescenes and Sound is really amazing while you proceed through the Ship. Moving slow and carefully in silence Moments, expecting the next Trouble around the Corner and acting fast and hectically under attack. It gave me that Goosebump i got from the Movie ALIENS! And i really like it. Next to the Story Mode, there are also a Death Match Multiplayer and an Onslaught Mode for many Waves of Enemys. How long can you survive? So Space Marine, what are you waiting for? Get your Weapon, your Squad and then show them Hell!!! I wanna thank the Developer for letting me enter the „Thomas and Heckel“ Ship. I enjoyed it very much, also because of bringing back some great Gaming and Movie Memories. Thank you very much. And thank YOU for reading. At £20 this is ludicrous. The gunplay and graphics are mediocre at best and this is sadly the most praise I can give it. Teammate AI is barely existent, they either run head first into all of the enemies before you get a chance to shoot them or get up close and personal to you so you can't see anything. The zombies are laughably bad too, waving their hands in the air like they just don't care. Plus all the battles follow the same formula, clear a hallway and room then a horde appears. If this was £2 I wouldn't complain so much but £20 is insane. For gameplay of Ghostship Chronicles check out my video here: https://youtu.be/OcAWGeRtIJY
The concept is great and there are very little games as this on the market. That is a big plus but... Cannot shake the feeling I'm playing some moded Systemshock2... Do NOT trust the Dev public screenshots... game looks ok but not as detailed as in those screenshots. Two things are a bust: 1. Interaction mechanics - they feel "plastic" is you know what I mean. 2. Animations [,ostly enemy] - stuff a corpse full of straw and tell it to run around and you get something better than you have in the game. Those two things are a big STOP sign for me... the game feels like an Alpha version. Seriously. At the current state I cannot recommend it to anyone.
У вас когда-нибудь был шутер девяностых годов, написанный вашей бабушкой в перерывах между вязанием? Будет, если купите. Первая игра, за которую я запросил возврат средств.
I would recommend this game it's a 6/10, there is this part in the near the end, where you have to find 12 batteries, in the pitch black dark, while enemies constantly spawn and attack you while you can't see them, there are flares, but they burn out, and only some weapons have flash lights and some don’t and if you run out of ammo on the flashlight weapon, have fun switch your weapon and firing in the dark when a enemy spawns behind you
i wish i could enjoy this game but its impossible. parters ai is worse then a todler ai rushes into horde to get murdered in seconds no tooltip on what items do so you have to collect everything just in case the f*****g explosions is something else. you can detonate fuel tank 2 rooms ahead only for you or your team mate to die in 1 shot for 0 reasons unless you have friends to play this do not touch it
This was the best CDF Ghostship game Shawn has created! Overall, I would give it a 7.5/10. I attempted to keep my crew alive but at the end; I was like screw it. The last level is annoying because I got lost for a while but I made it to the end. I wish there was a map that you could reference on hand which showed you where you were at.
I recommend this game. I would give it a score of 8 out of 10. I have played FPS shooter games for a very long time, since the Wolfenstein 3d and DOOM era, and have played all the other MAG Studios games. Ghostship 2 AKA CDF Ghostship was my favorite, and I believed it was a very good game. This game, Ghostship Chronicles, is an improvement over CDF Ghostship in every way. I have not quite made it yet to the end of the story campaign, but have invested several hours already into the various modes and story. For graphics I would give this a 9 out of 10. You can tell the solo dev who made this game is also a very skilled 3d artist specializing in realistic scifi models. Everything is unique and super detailed, from the set piece props such as shuttle crafts, to the weapons, to the actual architecture of the environment. The ship itself is very detailed with various types of rooms and detailed gadgets adorning the walls and ceilings, much like in the previous GhostShip games. Level design is superb. For Gameplay I'd give this a 7. It is very fun and vastly improved over the previous game, with much more polish and less bugs. The AI team mates that follow you around are very smart and useful. Several times I was surprised to enter a new room, and then see my team mates hold back and take cover behind a door frame, and then lean out and shoot at the incoming horde of insectoid aliens, while yelling out context sensitive dialogue such as "Get them off me! There's too many of them!" Etc. Very immersive. The guns feel very natural as well, and there are many interesting features. You can melee with rifles, or even pull out a knife. You can also deploy interesting devices such as flares to light the way, or force field shield orbs that protect you and your team from damage. A few other perks as well, and many items can be picked up by checking for loot in lockers, which seem to be randomly generated. I would give gameplay an 8, except for the fact that there are still a few bugs with AI such as jerky movements and glitchy situations, but those do not really detract from gameplay too much. Story: For now I give the story a 8 out of 10. By intention, the game is not that dialogue heavy, so it is hard to assess the story, but this is by design because you are thrown into an unknown situation without much backstory and developments happen on the fly. And to be fair, I have not made it to the end yet. But there are interesting pieces of the story that pop up in various ways, such as PDA screens/data pads that you pick up and read, the dialogue of your team mates, some in game cut scenes, etc. Sound: 8 out of 10. Very well done sounds for aliens, battle dialogue from team mates, nice sounding weapons, other various effects. Music is also well done. There is not much of it, some atmospheric tracks and a few unique pieces but it fits the mood of the game. Controls: 10 out of 10. I have played many FPS games over the years and this feels very natural. I kept mostly the default control scheme, but changed maybe 1 or 2 keys. Replay value: 8 out of 10. Even though I have not made it to the end of the game yet, I hear there are some random elements like GhostShip 2, and there are various endings based on which squad mates you keep alive. There are also various instant action modes and at least a multiplayer death match mode, with swarms of aliens thrown in for more fun. We have yet to see if there is coop, right now the dev has said that is unknown as it was being worked on and there were some bugs to work out. But I believe the average gamer will be able to get in a few weeks or even months of gaming in this game. Overall, this is a great and highly enjoyable, unique game. It is even more amazing that it was crafted mostly by one individual. I would put the level of detail of this game up there with some big budget AAA games, and there is not much to hint that this was an indie game made mostly by one individual developer.
