Ghostbane: Prologue is a paranormal investigation horror game that serves as a free introduction to the broader Ghostbane concept. Developed and published by Pi Bit, the game focuses on investigating haunted locations, identifying supernatural entities, preparing rituals, and ultimately capturing the spirits responsible for the disturbances. Rather than building the entire experience around escaping from an aggressive ghost, it gives players a more deliberate objective in which gathering information is only the beginning of the hunt. As a prologue, its scope is naturally smaller than a full release, but it provides enough of the central gameplay structure to demonstrate what makes Ghostbane different from a conventional ghost-hunting experience. The investigation system forms the foundation of each encounter. Players enter locations affected by paranormal activity and use specialized equipment to search for evidence. This makes observation an important part of survival because determining what kind of entity is present affects how the rest of the investigation unfolds. The uncertainty surrounding the ghost is one of the game's strongest sources of tension. A strange sound, unexplained movement, or sudden supernatural manifestation becomes more meaningful when players are actively trying to interpret what is happening instead of merely waiting for the next scare. Identifying the entity leads into the more distinctive part of Ghostbane's gameplay. Once players understand what they are dealing with, they must prepare a ritual capable of capturing the ghost. This creates a satisfying transition from investigation to confrontation. The early portion of a mission encourages patience and evidence gathering, while the ritual phase introduces a more immediate sense of danger. Players are no longer simply documenting paranormal activity; they are deliberately attempting to trap the entity responsible for it. That escalation gives individual investigations a clearer beginning, middle, and conclusion. Ghostbane: Prologue can be experienced alone, but cooperative play is an important part of its design. Working with other players allows a group to divide investigative responsibilities, search different areas, operate equipment, and coordinate preparations for the eventual ritual. Multiplayer also creates the unpredictable situations that make cooperative horror entertaining. A carefully organized investigation can quickly deteriorate when supernatural activity intensifies or teammates become separated. Communication can reduce some of the fear, but it also creates opportunities for confusion and panic when several players interpret the same paranormal event differently. The most interesting feature appears after the actual capture. Ghosts are not simply removed from the game once a mission has been completed. Captured entities can be brought back to the player's base and stored in capsules, allowing further investigation into their backgrounds. Players can discover information concerning a ghost's history, personality, death, and other details surrounding its existence. This gives the supernatural entities greater significance than ordinary enemies. Instead of being anonymous threats that disappear when defeated, they become subjects of continued research. This post-investigation system also gives the base a meaningful role. Returning with another captured spirit provides a tangible reminder of previous encounters and helps connect otherwise separate missions. The concept has considerable potential because a growing collection of entities can function simultaneously as progression, storytelling, and a record of the player's accomplishments. Learning who these spirits were and what happened to them can also introduce a more tragic or mysterious dimension to the horror. Ghostbane is therefore at its most interesting when it treats ghosts as supernatural mysteries rather than simple monsters. Atmosphere plays an equally important role in supporting these mechanics. The first-person perspective keeps the player's awareness deliberately restricted, while dark interiors and unsettling environments encourage cautious exploration. Effective paranormal horror depends heavily on anticipation, and Ghostbane benefits when it allows quiet moments to create uncertainty. The possibility that something might happen can be more disturbing than constantly placing an obvious threat directly in front of the player. Environmental details consequently matter because every room must feel like a place where evidence, danger, or an unexpected manifestation could be waiting. The equipment-based approach also reinforces the idea that players are paranormal investigators rather than helpless victims. Tools provide ways of interacting with supernatural activity and gathering the information necessary to understand each haunting. However, possessing equipment does not completely eliminate vulnerability. Players still have to enter dangerous environments and deliberately provoke or confront entities in order to complete their objectives. This balance between having useful investigative tools and remaining exposed to supernatural danger is important because too much power would undermine the horror, while excessive helplessness would weaken the investigative fantasy. As a Prologue, the game's biggest limitation is naturally the amount of content available. It should primarily be considered a demonstration of the systems intended to define the larger Ghostbane experience. The smaller scale means that its mechanics do not have enough room to prove whether they can remain varied across dozens of hours. Repetition is an obvious concern for any investigation game built around identifying different supernatural entities. Long-term success would depend on varied ghost behavior, unpredictable evidence, distinctive locations, interesting equipment, different rituals, and enough procedural uncertainty to prevent players from solving every encounter through routine. Even with that limitation, the underlying gameplay cycle is promising. Searching a haunted environment, interpreting paranormal evidence, determining the identity of the ghost, preparing the appropriate response, capturing the entity, and researching it afterward creates a more complete progression than simply identifying a supernatural presence and leaving. Each part contributes toward a larger purpose, and the captured-ghost system gives successful investigations a lasting consequence. It is particularly well suited to players who enjoy horror with objectives and deduction rather than experiences focused entirely on scripted scares. Ghostbane: Prologue ultimately works best as a preview of an ambitious paranormal investigation framework. Pi Bit combines familiar cooperative ghost-hunting ideas with ritual-based capture and post-mission research, resulting in an experience that has recognizable genre foundations but enough individual concepts to establish its own identity. The Prologue cannot fully demonstrate the longevity of those systems, and greater variety would be necessary for the concept to remain compelling over a significantly longer campaign. Nevertheless, the combination of investigation, supernatural tension, cooperative teamwork, ghost capture, and research provides a solid foundation. For a free introductory release, it offers a worthwhile glimpse at a horror game interested not only in frightening players, but also in making them understand and ultimately contain what is haunting them. Hermano.
