Way too short.
This is not a spoiler really, but you might get what I mean only after you reach it: the ending felt really sudden. Maybe that was done that way to symbolize how sudden death can be (since the game is about ghosts), but more likely it was just rushed.
The story and gameplay are your average VR "exit the room" kind of games. There was no challenge for me at any point and it felt like I was watching or rather performing a walkthrough. Some interactions were nice though, there's something simply satisfying about watching it all work together. And some scenery was also cool, namely the 70-80s style apartments in a ghetto building block, a place I definitely want to explore more in VR. The furniture, the decorations, the view from the window felt very depressing and inspiring at the same time. There's a really nice level of detail in the modern indoor levels, I especially liked the dynamic shadows that appear from your flashlight. And the character animations are decently done. The "mysterious" locations are very boring and basic though. Still, it's quite polished, haven't noticed any weird animations, glitches or anything like that. Some level design choices are trying way too hard to make it clear for the player what to do and where to go. I mean, an elevator in a 10 story building with just one button saying "Press"? Really? And I'm also curios why they always barricade the characters while they're performing their act (I can't call it dialogues, you always feel like watching a theatrical scene rather than just being in that situation). I guess there're some collision issues they tried to avoid that way, but it's done in such an obvious manner that it completely ruins immersion. The story doesn't make any sense and it's as silly as VR games get. I don't know why there's such a focus on the consumer group that are new to games in general and just want a quick "experience" rather than a game, but I knew what I was buying when I did. I hope the learnings from these "early" titles would eventually lead to a decent level of storytelling in the future VR titles, while utilizing the great effects and mechanics that work best in this medium. Overall I'd recommend it only on a deep discount and only if you want exactly that kind of a puzzle game with just a tiny bit of spookiness to it. Otherwise nah, better play some decent AA and AAA games with VR mods, luckily there's plenty of them.
Pros + Story + Climatic worldbuilding Cons - Poor optimalization - interaction only with story related items - puzzles could be harder Overall its worth to play, but consider getting it on sale
Spooky vibes without going into creepy territory. The game isn't horror and doesn't have jump scares so don't be afraid to play. For people who like The Room games but want more story. Great game. I hope they add more.
I enjoyed the experience, graphics are very polished, no bugs, no stuttering. Very solid VR game. Played with HP Reverb G2 on ASUS ROG RTX3080, AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, 32 GB RAM DDR4
Carries your save over from the Demo! Runs well in Linux/WiVRn. Great spooky vibes.
Ghost Town is a polished virtual reality puzzle adventure developed and published by Fireproof Games, a studio widely recognized for creating atmospheric puzzle experiences. Moving away from pure mechanical puzzle boxes while preserving the studio's signature attention to detail, the game introduces a supernatural detective story set in London during 1983. Players step into the role of Edith Penrose, an experienced ghost hunter whose professional investigations become deeply personal when her brother suddenly disappears. What begins as another paranormal assignment gradually evolves into an emotional journey filled with haunted locations, unsettling mysteries, and long-buried secrets that blur the line between the living and the dead. The narrative is one of the game's strongest qualities because it combines mystery with genuine character development. Edith is more than a silent protagonist, as her determination to uncover the truth gives purpose to every investigation and supernatural encounter. The story unfolds at a measured pace, allowing players to piece together clues while meeting a variety of memorable individuals connected to the paranormal world. Rather than relying on constant scares, Ghost Town creates suspense through its storytelling, encouraging curiosity as each new revelation uncovers a larger conspiracy involving ghosts, clairvoyants, and forgotten histories. The emotional motivation behind the central mystery helps the experience feel meaningful instead of simply serving as a backdrop for puzzles. Puzzle design remains the heart of the adventure, reflecting Fireproof Games' long-standing expertise in the genre. Every environment is packed with interactive objects that require careful observation and logical thinking. Solving challenges often involves manipulating ancient mechanisms, discovering hidden compartments, using magical abilities, and interpreting environmental clues. The puzzles avoid feeling repetitive because new mechanics and ideas are introduced throughout the journey, rewarding players who pay close attention to their surroundings. Progress rarely comes from random experimentation, making each successful solution feel satisfying and well-earned. Virtual reality significantly enhances the gameplay by making every interaction feel natural and immersive. Players physically inspect objects, operate mysterious devices, shine flashlights into dark corners, and perform supernatural rituals using intuitive motion controls. Instead of treating VR as a visual gimmick, Ghost Town fully embraces the technology to strengthen both exploration and puzzle-solving. The tactile nature of interacting with haunted environments creates a stronger connection to the world, making even simple investigative moments engaging because players are actively involved in every discovery. The game's environments are exceptionally crafted, taking players through a wide range of haunted and atmospheric locations. From abandoned theaters filled with ghostly echoes to isolated lighthouses and aging buildings hiding supernatural secrets, each setting has its own distinct identity. Every location is rich with environmental storytelling, rewarding players who examine details beyond the immediate objectives. Strong lighting effects, realistic textures, and carefully designed interiors create an immersive atmosphere that maintains tension throughout the adventure without constantly depending on horror sequences. Presentation is another highlight. Detailed visuals combine with excellent sound design to create an authentic paranormal atmosphere. Ambient noises, subtle musical compositions, and convincing voice performances help every scene feel believable, while expressive facial animations and motion capture bring the supporting cast to life. Conversations never feel like interruptions because the performances strengthen the emotional investment in the unfolding mystery, making relationships between characters feel genuine. Ghost Town deliberately prioritizes exploration, storytelling, and puzzle-solving over fast-paced action. Players expecting combat-heavy gameplay may find its slower rhythm less exciting, while those seeking open-world freedom should be aware that progression follows a structured narrative path. However, this focused approach allows the story to remain consistently engaging while ensuring every puzzle and location contributes directly to the central investigation. Mature themes, including supernatural violence and emotional subject matter, also give the narrative greater weight without becoming excessively graphic. Overall, Ghost Town successfully delivers an immersive VR adventure that blends intelligent puzzle design, compelling storytelling, memorable environments, and polished presentation into a cohesive experience. Fireproof Games demonstrates impressive confidence in expanding beyond its previous work while preserving the intricate puzzle craftsmanship that made the studio successful. For players who appreciate atmospheric mysteries, hands-on exploration, and carefully constructed supernatural narratives, Ghost Town stands as one of the more rewarding virtual reality adventures currently available. Rating: 10/10
Some of the best atmosphere in a VR game in years. Brought me back to the original days of VR where it felt like I was actually entering a real space that I was able to live in for however long I had my headset on, and the first time I've felt that way since Half-Life Alyx. The puzzles are lighter than most Fireproof games, but they're engaging and interesting. The story is well-paced and thought out. My only minor issue is that it just isn't long enough; it feels like the first episode of a multi-episode game. I want more time in this world!
Another fireproof game, another masterpiece. It makes VR feels real. Thank you.
great story driven experience. some more interactive objects, a bit more life in the levels and a little more care with the textureresolution would leverage this title into the top vr games of all time. non the less, it is a very good puzzle game well worth its price.
