Reviews
A disappointing, unfinished experience Rating: Not Recommended (for now) I don’t usually take the time to write reviews, but the state of Genkai Primal Awakening has left me so frustrated that I felt I had to warn others. As a long-time fan of the genre who has played countless card games and roguelikes, I was initially excited about this title due to its mechanics and its clear inspiration from a "certain famous brand." Unfortunately, what I found was a game that is fundamentally unfinished. Technical State & Breaking Bugs: The game is currently in a state that should be considered "Early Access" at best, yet it was released as a full version. The further you progress, the more the experience falls apart: Missing Assets: I encountered numerous cards with no artwork (just white placeholders), no mana costs, and no descriptions. UI Glitches: Attempting to play these "broken" cards often bugs the entire UI. Since the graveyard is positioned right next to the "End Turn" button, cards frequently get stuck on top of the button, making it impossible to click. Game-Breaking Freezes: The engine frequently freezes during turns, causing the "End Turn" button to disappear entirely. This forces you to abandon your current run, as there is no way to progress. The "Refund Trap" What feels most deceptive is the pacing of these issues. The beginning of the game feels relatively polished and tested. However, the game-breaking bugs and missing assets primarily start appearing after the first and second bosses. By the time you reach these issues, you have likely passed the 2-hour playtime mark, making it impossible to request a refund through standard channels. Final Verdict: I personally feel cheated. It is clear that the game was not ready for a full release. If you are considering buying Genkai Primal Awakening, I strongly advise you to wait. Check the patch notes and community forums to ensure these issues have been fully resolved before spending your money. As it stands, it is a frustrating experience that feels more like a prototype than a finished product.
The game feels quite good... I've been playing it for a while now (since the demo) and I've liked it quite a bit... this latest version has simply improved the card and combat system significantly, a game I recommend to all lovers of the genre.
