Developed by Infinity Plus 2 and published by 505 Games, Gems of War - Puzzle RPG successfully merges match-three mechanics with the progression and depth of a fantasy role-playing game. Rather than treating puzzles as a standalone experience, the game builds an expansive adventure around them, introducing players to the magical realm of Krystara, where battles, exploration, and hero development are all tied together through strategic gem matching. What begins as a familiar puzzle formula steadily grows into an experience filled with character collection, kingdom management, and tactical decision-making, offering far more substance than its simple premise initially suggests. Combat revolves around matching colored gems to gather mana for spells while skull matches inflict direct damage on opponents. Although these mechanics are easy to understand, battles quickly become more engaging as players unlock troops with specialized abilities that complement one another. Team composition becomes a major factor in success, with every troop bringing different strengths, weaknesses, and magical powers to the battlefield. Deciding which gems to prioritize, when to unleash abilities, and how to deny favorable board positions to enemies adds a satisfying layer of strategy that keeps encounters from becoming repetitive. Victory depends not only on fortunate board layouts but also on thoughtful planning and efficient use of every move. The game's progression system is impressively extensive. Players journey across numerous kingdoms, each featuring unique stories, enemies, environments, and rewards that gradually expand the world while introducing new gameplay mechanics. Beyond the main campaign, there are faction expeditions, Underworld adventures, world events, and countless side activities that continuously provide fresh objectives. A massive roster of more than a thousand collectible troops ensures there is always another character to unlock, level up, ascend, or incorporate into new team strategies. Hero classes, powerful weapons, armor upgrades, crafting systems, and kingdom development all intertwine to create a rewarding sense of long-term advancement that consistently encourages players to improve their collection. Online features contribute significantly to the game's longevity. Competitive player-versus-player battles challenge players to test their strongest teams against others, while guilds encourage cooperation through shared goals, exclusive rewards, and organized activities. Regular live events, seasonal content, and ongoing updates provide incentives to return frequently, ensuring the experience remains active even after completing much of the core content. Cross-platform progression further enhances accessibility by allowing players to continue their adventure across supported devices, making it easy to enjoy both short daily sessions and extended periods of play without losing progress. Artistically, Gems of War embraces a vibrant fantasy style filled with colorful kingdoms, imaginative creature designs, and visually distinctive spell effects. While the graphics prioritize clarity over technical realism, the presentation suits the game's tone well and makes its enormous variety of troops feel memorable. The user interface successfully organizes the many progression systems without becoming completely overwhelming, although new players may initially require some time to understand the large number of currencies, menus, and upgrade mechanics. The soundtrack complements the fantasy setting with atmospheric music that enhances exploration and combat without overshadowing the gameplay itself. Its greatest challenge lies in the sheer complexity that develops over time. As additional game modes, events, currencies, and progression systems become available, newcomers may feel overwhelmed by the volume of content presented to them. The free-to-play structure also introduces optional purchases that can accelerate progress, though patient players can steadily advance through regular play. Fortunately, the game's generous amount of content and strategic gameplay provide enough incentive for dedicated players to remain invested without feeling that every objective requires spending money. Gems of War stands out by transforming a familiar puzzle concept into an expansive fantasy RPG packed with meaningful progression, strategic combat, extensive customization, and an enormous amount of content. Its combination of accessible gameplay, deep team-building mechanics, collectible heroes, and continuous updates creates an experience capable of entertaining players for hundreds of hours. Although its many systems may seem intimidating at first, those willing to learn them will discover one of the most content-rich puzzle RPGs available, offering remarkable value through its blend of tactical gameplay and long-term progression. Rating: 8/10

The game is interesting, although quite complex due to the amount of information and content available. Unfortunately, since the last update (9.2), the developer team has made a choice that has created strong inequality, leading to enormous degree of pride. A new player won’t have any chance to close this gap, even a little. And the elders who were more advanced, find themselves with a delay that can be divided by 3 for simply using these resources normally. Although alerted to the fact before the update and even after, questions about this choice remain completely unanswered, while the GOW team is present for all other questions. A choice has been made, yet an explanation does not seem so complicated to give... So, if you decide to get started with the game, avoid making purchases, at the risk of seeing mechanical changes that will greatly disadvantage you later.

This game has got real bad over the years (mostly the ads are constant and feel like aggresive street begging) The worst part is the false RNG that massively helps the AI while leaving you wondering what you did wrong.. probably nothing. I'm an RPG nut and have felt the game is breaking its own rules so many times, however in this case, you are justified feeling cheated and angry
Used to be my podcast game while going for achievements, but now there are so many on the list that are unobtainable that there's just no point subjecting myself to the pointless grind...

It's like Magic the Gathering mixed with Bejeweled. Pretty fun and it's on mobile.
