I never had the chance to play the original game when it first came out, simply because I didn’t own an Xbox as a kid. Still, I often read about it in gaming magazines, and back then it was considered true next-gen. I dreamed of playing it someday — and now, almost 20 years later, that opportunity finally came. I was always more of a PlayStation supporter and mostly focused on its exclusives, which is why I ended up missing nearly all Xbox titles. I really enjoyed Gears 5 when it released on PC, and during the winter sale I finally picked up GOW Reloaded. Why on sale? Because I honestly think the price is a bit too high. For example, with Halo: The Master Chief Collection you get four full games, while here you only get the first Gears of War, which feels disappointing. The publisher could have taken notes from EA and their Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which included the entire trilogy. As for the game itself — it’s excellent. A bit short, but genuinely fun to play. For the sake of authenticity, I even bought an Xbox controller and played through the game that way. Yes, its age is noticeable — it’s nearly 20 years old — but it can still put many modern games to shame. As far as I know, the game now runs on Unreal Engine 5 instead of Unreal Engine 3. The optimization is solid, and I didn’t encounter any bugs. The multiplayer, however, feels rather boring. There are plenty of better options out there, and one match was more than enough for me. So overall, I would probably recommend this game — especially to those who feel nostalgic for the original, or to players like me who missed it on Xbox back in the day. After all, this game helped define its own genre. Even great titles like Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 1–2 are essentially strong interpretations of what Gears of War started.
Ótimo, jogo muita nostalgia recomendado
Multiplayer does not work
I was a Gears of War fan before the first game came out, I was sitting on my 360 watching all the behind the scenes and stayed a massive fan until Gears 3. This is similar to the Halo Campaign evolved remake, in the sense that it loses all the art design, and botches some of the basics. Whats good? It looks nice sometimes, voices actors and delivery have stayed the same. It is "essentially" the same game as og GOW1. Whats bad? The balance, even in campaign has been lost, the scary aspects and art direction are absent now in favor of unreal engine realism (the OG was on unreal, but had a better color grading and style), bugs are still plenty... and it feels off overall. Conclusion: What can we as fans of the original trilogy do without a current Xbox/game pass? We can get this on sale and spend 8-10 hrs with the campaign and occasionally some vs mode... that's it at the moment... the games we grew up on are going to disappear forever, and when we get them on modern consoles and PC, they will be a shell of their former selves... Never pay full price for cash grab slop, and if you're stronger than me, don't try to relive your childhood through poorly made crap.
Was never able to get to the main menu to even attempt to play. After searching and trying every method to fix the crashes I gave up and requested a refund. Because I was more than 2 weeks past my purchase date Steam refused to refund me. Cool. Can't play and still had to pay for it.
Would be significantly more enjoyable if players didn't immediately disconnect from games the second you start losing. Look, this is the 2015 Xbox One port Gears of War: Ultimate Edition brought to PC for a $50 price tag. I expected something of significantly higher quality rather than a game I could find in the $5 bin rotting at Gamestop. They didn't even bother to make improvements to the menu UI, leaving it looking incredibly dated compared to other titles available at the same price. It's probably fine if you just want to play campaign, but as someone who loves Gears multiplayer, this one stinks. Back to Gears 5, I suppose.
There's no split screen couch co-op for PC version. 🤷🏾
I don't normally comment on games in general but this has to be 1 of the biggest pieces of trash I've bought in awhile. I can see why it's on sale, how could you sell something that runs so poorly at any price above 10 dollars? I couldn't even get the sound to work at all either. I've installed and run a lot games and like I said this is just garbage so be careful before you invest your 8 bucks.
