This isn't a game, it's just a software application. "GB BASIC" lacks the basic mechanics make something a game. Lacking that, this is just an application that comes across as a rather aggressive, for profit attempt to get sued to oblivion by Nintendo. This is a construction kit designed to make Nintendo Gameboy ROMs without any apparent permission from Nintendo to make derivative works from their licensed technology. And this is being done for profit, to make sure there's financial liability on behalf of the developer, who we might as well refer to as "The defendant". Who has also decided to pollute the Steam games section with things that are obviously not games. Again, for profit. To make it clear what a game is and why this isn't one, it boils down to whether the software has any "game loops", which is the interaction between the player and the game itself. Here's an example of a game loop. In Dark Souls, you explore an area, encounter an enemy, fight that enemy and if the computer lets you survive, you repeat that loop with the computer providing you with new enemies. Another example is Candy Crush (while mobile games are awful, they are still games where this isn't), where you rearrange your gems and if you create a match, they're eliminated, you get rewarded, and then the game provides you with more gems to match to repeat the process. This software has no such loop and no interactive gameplay/feedback. It isn't a game and it cannot be "played" in any traditional sense. Launching software applications in the "Games" category on Steam can be seen as misleading. Many amateur "developers" don't seem to understand the difference between a software app and a game (this should be obvious)! We should at least assume this is ignorance over malice, but it's still a non-game published in the game section. Publishing non-game software apps on Steam as if they are games is bad for everyone, it's harmful. It robs visibility from legitimate developers who are actually making games, following the right procedures and doing the right thing. It makes it harder for those genuine, ethical developers to find their audience, and it makes it harder for us gamers to find those real games. Without a game loop or interactive feedback, this is just junkware in the wrong section. It's a software app, not a game, and I won't recommend it as a game to gamers. This only ever had [b]8 concurrent users[/b] (according to SteamDB), and for a "free" application, this is a dismal public reception. It failed. Out of 130 million potential gamers here on Steam, almost nobody was interested. Even though this is "free". That level of rejection speaks a lot for the quality of the product. This is also not free, as the developer not only seeks to abuse Nintendo copyright, and the "games" section of Steam for publishing non-game software, they also seek to abuse the "free" section of Steam by publishing a product that costs $20... yes, an eye watering $20 to unlock the full functionality of this garbage application (which is not a game). When developers abuse Steam this much, doing the wrong thing, aggressively, for profit, they don't even have the decency to try call it rain.
