The modeling is nice, the interaction is close to nil. You can move a stick and throw a cup / sandal .. and thats about it. The bird does, but also doesn't respond to your gestures / voice. You can take the headset off and still get the very short story arch to play out. Not a very good VR showcase, and not engaging enough of a story to make up for it.

2/5 on interesting level, very short but free. Liked the voices and the idea but first game to ever crash my system completely. Can't recommend.
Жена сказала, что если на этом обзоре наберётся 10 лайков и 5 наград, то она подарит ящик пива. Мужики, выручайте!
This is short but super cute. Would love to show it to people but the game doesn't pick up audio which leaves it hanging for ages when it asks you a question. Still worth having a look as it will eventually keep playing without an audio response, but would be far better if this was fixed.
The game won't even launch. I've tried to get it to run several times, but an error message stating that the game is "unresponsive" keeps popping up in the mini SteamVR window. I've looked all over the internet for a solution, but nothing useful came up to my dismay. While I browsed for a fix, I couldn't help but notice a lot of complaints about how buggy the game itself is (not related to my problem) and that the people who were experiencing these issues ended up uninstalling the game altogether. For the time being, until the devs fix their game, I'm going to do the same. May 12, 2021 Update: Tried running it again out of curiosity to see if it would work after some time passed. It finally launched, but only got a black screen and nothing else. No solution anywhere. Not on the internet, or in the Steam discussion forums. 2 years after writing this review, and I still can't even play it. This game is pretty much dead in the water. Thank you, Motional and Limitless. August 29, 2023 Update: Just had my PC fully upgraded today, but the black screen persists. It has been 4 years since the publication of this review. I still have yet to actually experience anything. Honestly, Gary the Gull should be removed from Steam if it can't run on more recent systems. This is extremely disappointing. February 13, 2025 Update: I finally got the game to run properly. No more error messages or black screens. The solution was to switch my GPU preference to my graphics card instead of integrated graphics in Windows display settings. I was so shocked when the game actually loaded up this time. However, the hand models on my Index controllers were swapped and the radio kept repeating the corny "no internet connection" message that was mentioned in another review. Of course, this meant that Gary would never land on the beach and do his introduction as intended. This is the actual last time I ever try this game. It's clear to me now that this was a complete waste of time from the start. I stand by my previous statement about removing Gary The Gull from Steam, especially if there's a host server that's been kaput for God knows how long. My internet connection is completely fine, unlike what the radio keeps repeating. This is apparently supposed to be a 3-minute experience, but almost nothing has happened over the last 6 years of giving it a chance.
"Gary the Gull" — уютная инди-игра с забавной атмосферой. Управляя гагарой, вы помогаете жителям острова, собираете предметы и решаете мелкие головоломки. Графика милая, а сюжет держит в легкой ироничной манере. Игра расслабляющая, без излишней сложности, но с приятными мелочами: диалоги, скрытые квесты и юмористические моменты. Однако сюжет немного поверхностен, а выбор действий ограничен. Подойдет для тех, кто ищет легкий и душевный отдых.
Played On: HTC Vive Gary the Gull is a semi-interactive animated short where you're able to somewhat participate in the story; whether by moving your head, drawing in the sand, or throwing something at Gary, the main star of the story. The seagull is eventually joined by a friendly crab, and the two banter back and forth a bit until the crab bests you both. The game has some humor to it, though it will mostly be kids who enjoy this title to its full extent. Be warned, though, that this title tends to crash or refuse to close properly. It seems that no one, including myself, is able to interact with Gary by talking; it would eliminate a lot of the negative responses if Limitless Ltd would take this non-existent feature out of the store page. However, nodding and shaking your head do answer Gary's questions, though nothing that you do actually affects how the story plays out; again, unlike what is stated on the store page. Nonetheless, it is a humorous short experience, especially for a title that released in late 2016. You're not missing much if you don't partake in Gary the Gull, but if you find yourself with six minutes to kill or an empty library, give it a shot. Rating: 3.0/5.0 - Average, can take it or leave it.
