Devs decided to update the engine from UE4 to UE5, changing the UI from what everyone has been used to for so long to something completely different. I don't even know how to display the grid anymore (edit: turns out they actually removed it with the update but recently readded it.) They made a comprehensive tutorial for the old version, changed where everything is, and then made a 2 second tutorial/help menu that only tells you how to move your camera. Upgrading to UE5 has done nothing other than rearrange the UI, remove some features (they might readd them again, cause why release an update that has LESS features?) Not only that but the disk space requirement has gone from 10gb to over double in size at 23gb. Nothings really changed other than it becoming more bloated in size, with slightly less function. There's no reason it should be 23gb. I've seen a recent trend of D&D/Tabletop map makers trying to outdo each other in appearances and graphics and it's unnecessary. No one actually cares that you can see the reflection of the buildings in the puddles on the cobblestone streets in a coastal pirate town with 100 palm trees your camera clips into while trying to select your figure. I'm legit going back to just drawing maps in photoshop and uploading them to a VTT site. At least then it's easier to convince my players to play on that than to download a 23gb program.

Unfortunately, as interesting as this software is, I cannot recommend it to a serious GM. It's great in concept, and the base tools are good for what you need them to do, but the development of this game has obviously ground to a halt, and the early access tag is so very apparent. The software is fairly unstable, sometimes props and walls you place will randomly vanish or move. The floor system is extremely buggy at the moment, trying to make multi-level maps (the main reason to use a 3D VTT) is exceedingly frustrating and not worth the headache. The actual DM/GM tools are unreliable as well, hiding elements from the players with a fog of war is a basic feature in most VTTs, but in Game Master Engine it is an extremely frustrating task, I haven't actually found a way to do this reliably. Also, as far as I can tell, if you cannot do discrete dice rolls in app. The learning curve for this software isn't too awful, but the in game tutorials are so barebones you'll be forced to watch Youtube tutorials in order to figure out some basic functions. Overall, The game is not worth the current asking price for the GM mode (players can play free). Frustratingly, the software cannot be refunded for some reason, so just stay away until the developers put some real effort into this again. I hope to be able to use this app in the future.
I'm not a technical person by nature, but I occasionally force myself to attempt learning new programs in the interest of storytelling. I'd demo'd half a dozen VTT programs and was getting tired and cranky when I stumbled upon this. The graphics were stunning. The amount of content available in the free / base version was insane. And while it was pretty intuitive, I did have a few questions and hopped into their Discord after about an hour. After introducing myself and asking a question, someone from the dev team immediately responded, and we ended up on a Discord call so he could help me troubleshoot. He ended up teaching me 1:1 about a TON of features I didn't even know about and I have to tell you, this is probably the most excited I have ever been about software. I haven't even scratched the surface of what this program is capable of doing, and with their upcoming Unreal 5 update, the possibilities are going to be truly mindblowing. They're a small dev team creating this out of pure passion and what they've managed to create without being a massive corporation is absolutely insane. Absolutely worth the price point. Support these guys however you can! I'm going to try to join their minis painting session this Saturday even though I've never touched Blendr (they teach you!). So freaking happy I stumbled on Game Master Engine!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you need to pay 54 dollars if you what to enjoy the game
I used to like this program, have about 82 hours just enjoying map creation, with probably 1/4 of the hours using the maps for DND. Then they updated everything and now every single time I try to make a new map and save it, its mostly gone. When I load into what I JUST MADE not even a couple minutes ago from saving, nearly 3 hours of work just gone. I tried doing the name change and all that in the discussion boards but nothing helped. I tried again, just making a small map, but then after waiting for a little bit and reloading, its all gone. A mere thirty objects gone. I could sorta understand Ive been pushing it with whole cities and towns, but just thirty objects? And its gone? I cant enjoy map creation knowing its all gonna be gone with no possibility for usage in the future. Enjoyed it while it lasted though. If its ever fixed or if people say they no longer have this issue I will for sure come back though.
The best part of waking up, is GME in your cup
Elde olan şeyler ile güzel bir doğa yaptınız veya dungeon. Sonra bu haritayı arkadaşlarınız ile oynamak istediniz, hop kardeşim 50 dolarlık gm edition dlc almamışsın host olamazsın.
All around amazing UI and allows for some great creations. Issue being you cant upload your own STLs and the figures are limited. Cant wait for this to be finished but for now im going to hold off
Layers are completely broken. Very little of the UI is user friendly. Randomly adds stuff to your favorites instead of your recents, which was just an extra layer of frustration. Camera has a lot of redundant controls, but none of them move intuitively. WASD should just control the camera on the horizontal plane and the scroll wheel should only move it on the vertical plane. Instead, they make zoom, planar movement, and another third arbitrary movement option in the bottom left of the screen all clash as you're trying to figure out how to edit one layer without destroying all the others. The tutorials only cover a handful of tools, most of which can be figured out on your own. Very shallow amount of information. Overall, I have no idea why anyone would use this as a free VTT, but paying for it is absolutely absurd.
