The Exhilaration of Slicing Through Bullet Hell: A Nostalgic Yet New Long-and-Short-Range STG
The first thing that catches your eye is the unique visual style created by doujin games. Charming pixel-art characters move within a stylish 3D space. This vividly brings back the excitement that classic Japanese PC games used to emit to the modern era. While it may look like a story woven by cute characters at first glance, its true nature is an extremely hardcore, relentless, high-speed bullet hell shooter with 8-way movement. The core of this work is the melee attack system that embodies "offense and defense as one." In contrast to traditional STGs where the primary goal was dodging bullets, in this game, you dive into the bullet hell itself and "destroy" enemy projectiles with close-range slashes. Special effects are triggered for enemies hit by melee attacks unleashed in a fully charged state, leading to even greater attack power. It is also possible to counter enemy melee attacks with your own melee strikes. The aggressive game design, where the deeper you dive into enemy lines at your own risk, the greater the rewards, is excellent. The proactive playstyle of cutting through the bullet hell and carving your own path—something that cannot be experienced through passive play focused only on evasion—creates a characteristic sense of exhilaration. The difficulty is by no means low (even on the "Easy" difficulty setting). Especially in boss battles, high-density bullet hell patterns that fill the screen will attack you. If you reach a game over, you must restart from the beginning of the stage. Due to the isometric top-down perspective, a certain amount of adjustment is likely needed to grasp the distance between your hitbox and the bullet hell. Even so, the combination of meticulously crafted bullet patterns and build construction ensures new discoveries and tension with every playthrough. There are also permanent power-up elements. If you pick it up drawn by its cute appearance, you might be surprised by its sharp fangs. However, the process of learning how to slice through the bullet hell while experiencing death many times is exactly what makes STGs so appealing. HHF-chan's comment: "It's totally rock to not just dodge bullet hell, but to slash through it with a full charge and turn it into power for a counterattack!"
Check out our Steam curator (link) , YouTube channel (link), and X(Twitter) (link)!
