This is a hidden gem of a party game and it makes me sad there are only three reviews because there's clearly a lot of effort. This feels like the kind of game that doesn't get made anymore. Like, you know how Super Monkey Ball had the main game, but also 5 or 6 memorable and fun party games that were also really well done? Or how those PS2 Mortal Kombats had the fighting game, but also a kart racer and chess and some kind of RPG? This is sort of like those. The core game is a sort of Crokinole-esque physics game where you fling your eraser at someone else's eraser and try to knock it off the desk. Imagine if Bumper Balls from Mario Party was turn-based and you'd have the right idea. I haven't tried this multiplayer yet, but even the singleplayer mode is a fun time killer and this will definitely have a spot on my Steam Deck. What's wild is how much there is outside of that basic game mode. You've also got Eraser Quest, which is actually how I found this game, since I was researching the Japanese Board game Sugoroku and wanted to see if there was a version of it on Steam. Basically you've got a Mario-Party type board, you can gain or lose money on certain spaces, and you can also get into four-player matches of the eraser flicking game and even get into bossfights with massive eraser contraptions. My only complaint so far about this mode is the music can be pretty repetitive and it can feel kinda slow watching the NPC's do their turn, though they do skip their minigames at least if you aren't participating in them. Then you've got the kart racer mode which has completely different mechanics but still has the eraser theme, with erasers driving cute little go karts. While it's not a Mario Kart killer, it's nicely done and again has a surprising amoutn of effort put into a side mode, the fact that you can get DLC racetracks reminds me of how the Twinkle Park racing minigame in the first Sonic Adventure was kind of it's own thing and I just love this idea of completely different modes being actually fleshed out. Then you've got the weirdest of all, which is the DLC mode that brings a paintball third person shooter, it's the jankiest of the minigames but I imagine it'd still be pretty hilarious playing with actual friends in local multiplayer. And going beyond that game also has a progression system that lets you build elaborate eraser contraptions and there's also a level editor. If it sounds like I"m just rattling off features it's because I really am legitimately surprised and impressed by how much different stuff this game crams into such a small package and how polished it feels. It reminds me of those Simple 2000 games from the PS2, where you have a quirky idea that the developers really committed to and managed to make something interesting with a lot of heart. The visuals are also great, the cel-shaded style is timeless and the 2D assets feature some really clean, striking character designs. The fact that all of this insanity takes place on top of a school desk also means this is probably the closest we'll get to a videogame version of Tonari no Seki-kun which is awesome. The big elephant in the room is the fact that the game is exclusively in Japanese and that's probably why it doesn't have much attention here on steam, but I think this is one of those games where even if you can't read it you can figure things out pretty easily, and if you can read a bit of Japanese, the vocab and grammar here are all extremely basic so you might not have much trouble. It would be great if this got an official translation so it could be opened to a wider audience, just playing singleplayer for half an hour was pretty amusing, but I imagine this would be a hit at parties.
