逢魔之時, or "Fox", was a 2D furry friendly non-English ARPG/JRPG. While this is labelled "free", the developer seems to have accidentally or deliberately blanked the game manifest. For that reason, no files will download and the game cannot be played. If a developer wants to remove a game from Steam, they should, Valve permits that. There's no reason for the developer to leave this on Steam with a corrupt/empty manifest. It's just polluting the database and the marketplace. Anyway, don't download this, you can't, it's broken.

Before I played 逢魔之時, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
逢魔之時 is an independent action RPG created and published by the Taiwanese developer 小狐狸工作室 (Little Fox Studio). Released on Steam as a free-to-play project, the game represents a small experimental attempt to blend fast-paced combat with a unique artistic direction inspired by traditional ink painting aesthetics. Rather than presenting a large-scale RPG filled with extensive exploration and narrative depth, the game focuses on a series of combat encounters where players must use skill combinations and careful timing to defeat powerful enemies. Although its scope is limited, the project demonstrates a creative attempt to merge stylized visuals with action-oriented gameplay. The title itself refers to the concept of “Oumagatoki,” a term in Japanese folklore associated with twilight—the mysterious time of day when the boundary between the human world and the spirit world becomes blurred. This theme is reflected in the game’s atmosphere and enemy designs, which evoke supernatural elements and mythical creatures. Instead of presenting a fully developed storyline with elaborate dialogue sequences, the game communicates its theme primarily through visual tone and combat encounters. The result is a world that feels mysterious and somewhat dreamlike, where players are placed directly into confrontations with otherworldly foes. Gameplay in 逢魔之時 centers on real-time action combat viewed from a third-person perspective. Players control a warrior capable of performing quick attacks, evasive maneuvers, and special skills that can be chained together to create powerful combinations. Unlike some action RPGs that rely heavily on repetitive attacks, this game encourages players to pay close attention to enemy behavior. Many of the enemies, especially the boss characters, require players to learn their attack patterns and respond accordingly. Proper timing when dodging or launching attacks becomes essential for survival. One of the key mechanics of the game is its skill system. Players are able to equip and activate different abilities that interact with each other in combat. By experimenting with these skills, players can discover combinations that deal more damage or allow them to control the battlefield more effectively. Although the overall range of skills is relatively small compared to larger RPGs, the system still offers enough flexibility for players to approach fights in different ways. Mastering the timing and order of these skills is often the difference between victory and defeat. The game’s encounters are primarily structured around boss battles rather than large groups of minor enemies. Each boss fight serves as a test of the player’s ability to adapt and recognize attack patterns. These battles require patience and observation, as rushing into combat without understanding the enemy’s behavior often leads to quick defeat. This emphasis on challenging encounters gives the game a slightly strategic edge despite its relatively simple mechanics. Visually, one of the most striking aspects of 逢魔之時 is its artistic style. The game adopts a presentation that resembles traditional ink brush paintings, with environments and characters appearing as though they were drawn using calligraphy-inspired strokes. This aesthetic gives the game a distinctive appearance that sets it apart from many other indie action RPGs. The contrast between dark brush-like outlines and atmospheric backgrounds creates a sense of mythological storytelling even in the absence of detailed narrative sequences. However, the game’s small development scale becomes apparent in several areas. While the visual concept is unique, the environments themselves are relatively simple, and character animations may appear somewhat limited compared to more polished titles. Because the project was developed by a small team, certain aspects of the presentation feel closer to a prototype or experimental project rather than a fully refined product. The sound design follows a similar minimalist approach. Background music accompanies battles and exploration, often featuring subtle tones that complement the mysterious atmosphere of the game. Combat sound effects provide feedback for attacks and skill activations, helping players recognize successful hits or evasive maneuvers. Although the audio elements are not particularly complex, they help support the overall mood of the game without distracting from the action. One of the positive aspects of the game is its accessibility. Being free-to-play and relatively lightweight in terms of system requirements, the game is easy for players to download and try. This makes it appealing for those who are curious about experimental indie games or unique artistic styles without committing to a full-priced purchase. Nevertheless, the game does suffer from several limitations. The amount of content is fairly small, and players may reach the end of the available encounters relatively quickly. The progression systems are also limited, meaning that the game lacks the depth and long-term character development typically associated with larger action RPGs. Players looking for an expansive world, deep storylines, or extensive customization may find the experience somewhat brief. Another limitation is the simplicity of the gameplay loop. Although the combat mechanics can be enjoyable for a short time, the lack of additional systems—such as exploration, quests, or varied enemy types—means that the experience may start to feel repetitive after several encounters. Despite these shortcomings, 逢魔之時 still manages to leave a positive impression as an experimental indie project. The combination of ink-inspired visuals and skill-based combat demonstrates the developer’s ambition to create something visually distinct. Even though the game is relatively short and somewhat rough around the edges, it provides an interesting glimpse into a creative concept that could potentially evolve into a larger project in the future. Overall, 逢魔之時 is best viewed as a compact action RPG prototype that focuses on stylish combat and a unique artistic identity. While it lacks the depth and content of more developed RPGs, its distinctive presentation and challenging boss encounters offer a brief but memorable experience. Players who appreciate experimental indie titles or visually unconventional games may find it worth exploring. Rating: 6/10
