The crisp walking animation combined with the breath-taking graphics, sound quality, and grammer usage in the simplified Chinese simply makes me wonder how this silent gem stayed out of the mainstream media! On my alternative Chinese steam account I have over 6000 hours clocked in on the game, and there's still some mechanics I have yet to figure out about! Rather than rating this, this game became my rating; a scale of 1 to 吞噬追踪!
好像没有人玩,有点无聊。。。。
Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There are no available servers and no player population. This game cannot be played as intended.
吞噬追踪 is a dead PvP game. Why did it fail? Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails. Only a tiny proportion of them "go viral". This game failed for many of the same reasons those others fail. The chief of which is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so. Competition amongst PvP centric games is extreme, and there's only a finite player base to appeal to. This game failed to reach any kind of critical mass and died as a result. Let's go into some of the reasons this particular game failed to appeal to gamers, despite the zero up front cost. First and foremost, there's no meaningful single player content. The developer gambled that other players would be an acceptable substitute for adding storytelling, level design etc to the game. They lost that bet. Without a huge community of players or single player content to add a lasting value to the game, the game dies. Developers must learn that other players are not an acceptable substitute for adding content to a game. This abandoned Chinese PvP arena game is a "big fish eats small fish" game, basically you run around and collect stars to boost your social credit score, but if you run into another player with a higher social credit score they can eat you like something fresh out of Wuhan and then you lose. That's it really. Toxically, the developer wants you to create an account and presumably hand over your email address and other private information for profiling... this is never okay, no matter how much or how little the developer tries to collect about you. An ethical developer would use Steamworks. There's no English translation for the game, but that's okay. The language of bad games is universal. This game features very lacklustre minimalist "art" for graphics instead of anything remotely contemporary. I'm sure the "developer" thought this would come across as "artistic", but it doesn't, it comes across as "really lazy" and looks bad as a result of their lack of interest in doing their job properly. Developers must try to understand that gaming is a visual medium, and gamers spend a lot of money on high end gaming rigs for a reason. And that reason is not so they can look at lazy, phoned-in half efforts like this. This is "free" enough, at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
