I love this, love the characters and the story. Its not the best story but it works well so far. If you dont own this game buy it now! Such a good visual novel and that is pretty rare here on steam. Quick update, The only real down side to this game is that it feels like its not 100% done. I noticed that there was the whole girl friend thing topic that was missing that got asked at school but never got an answer and the final route seemed a bit odd as you dont have the same time with her as the other girls making it feel like a extra that did not really need to be there simply because you dont get the time to know her the same way as with the other girls. I would still recommend this game tho, its really good despite feeling like its missing a couple parts here and there. Took me about 8 hours to do all five routes.
If you're looking for a VN that focuses more on the story aspect of romance then you've found it. I fell in love with each and everyone of these characters and their stories. Especially their endings which at times caught me off guard with their twists. Again as the description states there are a few 18+ scenes but not many and no H scenes. But if your a bit of a romantic like myself give this VN a try it's well worth the price IMO. Oh, and there's plenty of humor to keep you laughing throughout.
For other Anime related reviews, please follow us at Discover Anime!
Gaikokujin No Sensei (Foreigner Teacher) is an excellently written visual novel that got plenty of actual laughs out of me. It's always nice when the smaller visual novels put an effort into the writing, as opposed to simply shoveling tropes and nudity onto you in perpetuity. In a nutshell, it's a “fish out of water” story about an American with limited (and initially no) Japanese language skills working in Japan. However, he ends up meeting a couple of Japanese spirits who end up tied to him, who are also in a world very unfamiliar to them. The writing is really a standout here, and while your mileage on any individual girl may vary, I almost guarantee you're going to laugh out loud several times. Better yet, the game is fully voice acted, beyond your character, which is particularly rare for such a small team's game. That brings me to the second big selling point: the voice acting is exceptionally good, with Justine Lee (who voices Fumo, one of the four romance paths) as an absolute standout, in my opinion. A lot of smaller indie games (understandably) have less-than-stellar voice work when it's included, but GNS has four very talented women featured in this game. Those of you who expect a lot of nudity/h-scenes in a game will be disappointed. In the route I played, I saw one, maybe two topless scenes, and that's as explicit as it's ever going to be. But that's not the point of this VN. This VN is comedy and romance-focused, to be VERY clear. There's a constant soundtrack of music playing, usually 15-20 second loops. They're fine for what they are, often setting a mood for a scene, but they're not going to get stuck in your head or anything. If there's any real criticism I have, it's with the CG's. The art style didn't work for me in most of them. Two different artists did the CG work, apparently and their styles are VERY different. They're never BAD, but it's jarring how much better one CG will look from another in the same route. I'd have preferred a bit more consistency in that department, but it's a minor criticism in the grand scheme of things. Given that each route will take around 3-4 hours (depending on how fast you want to burn through the reading/listening to the voices), you're looking at around 12-16 hours to see it all. For $10 USD, that's more than fair, given the quality of what you're getting. This game has charm and heart, and I really look forward to what this dev does next. (And I really hope the next one also has Justine Lee. Seriously, I cannot say enough good things about her performance here.)
I had so much fun with this game! It has beautiful sprites and a story that kept me interested and hooked to see what was next! As soon as I finished I had to replay it to find the rest of the endings. The voice actors were well suited to their roles and I really enjoyed the art style. Great first game from Coffee Bunny- I'm looking forward to seeing what they come out with next.
Gaikokujin No Sensei (Foreigner Teacher) is a fun, lighthearted visual novel, complete with full voice acting, taking around 6-8 hours to complete each of the 4+ endings. A friend gifted this to me as a 'joke', as I normally don't play or buy these kinds of visual novels, but it actually turned out to be quite charming. Even if most of these points look critical I say this out of love and not hate. I recommend the game. First, the main character. I hate MC. MC is shy, anxious, and everything that you don't want to be in the situation that he is in. Playing as the main character felt like picking a shopping cart with a broken wheel at Walmart. Sure, social awkwardness in a visual novel's main character is fine, but this MC takes it to completely different level. There are multiple moments where I wanted to bang my head against my desk because of something that MC did or said. MC's only redeeming quality is that he rejcts Aina at the beginning of the story, which without getting to spoiler-y, would instantly end the game. In my first playthrough, I chose the Fumo route. Mainly because at the time she seemed like the only mentally sane character. Eventually Fumo would prove to have slow character development, always shutting down MC and just being really stubborn. She goes through a bit of character development all the way up to the middle of the story, where she remains in personality-stasis until the end of her route. This is a bit annoying, although she does easily become a great character at the very end. Aina makes this game start off strong. The premise that Aina's presence sets up is absurd, and continues to be a source of humor throughout the beginning of the game. Aina doesn't know English, which gives her a perfect opportunity for character development. She eventually steals your Japanese phrasebook and slowly learns throughout the game, occasionally saying the most uncomfortable basic phrases she can string together. Trust me, even though Aina seems strange, she steals the show in time. Makiko's character doesn't fly well with MC. They are both about the same level of awkward, and you already know my feelings about MC's level of awkwardness. When they are both in the same room the conversations are near painful, and the levels of social ineptitude are almost too much for any human to handle. There's nothing wrong with Makiko being there. She bounces off of the other characters great, but MC not so much. Kotone is the first main character you meet, and upon first talking to her, she seems off her rocker. I think the first interaction with Kotone paints her character in a much different light than the role she will eventually fill. Kotone is a fantastic character and probably the most well rounded character in the group. She has a very strong presence throughout the story, whether you go down her route or not. Depending on where you are in the game, she is either an strangely entertaining or likable character, with an eventual role that fits her and brings the rest of the characters together. STAY AWAY FROM YURIKO! I REPEAT, STAY AWAY FROM THE YURIKO ROUTE! This game without Yuriko is a solid 7/10. As I went to replay the game to find the secret route, I was unpleasantly surprised with the most unlikable character development in the entire game through Yuriko's storyline. After my second playthrough I would put the game at around a 6/10. It really spoiled the good vibes of the first time playing through it and left a bad taste in my mouth. Since it is a secret ending it is easy to avoid, and I heavily recommend you do. The NSFW content felt a bit cheap (don't ask why I had it on), the moments didn't feel like they fit the narrative at all, for example:
MC decides to waltz in on one of the girls in the bathroom without your input, to "return a key"
. The story itself is quite wholesome so most of the NSFW seems felt a bit shoved in. While I can criticize all I want, despite some general jankiness, there was clearly a lot of heart put into this game and I do recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance visual novels. (As long as you avoid Yuriko.) The first 20 minutes can be quite slow, but stick with it until both Fumo and Aina are introduced and it is a fun ride from there. Hope this helps your decision, happy gaming. -Cowritten by petra and kaya
the characters are funny and likable, the music was good, the voice acting is really well done and the story was interesting enough to keep me entertained overall i really enjoyed the game and would encourage others to play it
The lore for this game is immaculate. While our character's full backstory isn't directly spelled out, the pieces of the puzzle are all present and I believe I have decoded all the secret ciphers. To begin, Gaikokujin No Sensei was published in June 2022, meaning that given how much time it takes to develop a game, it is likely that the inspiration for the story occurs in 2021. Next, we must note the timing of the Japanese school year. Given that, as mentioned at the end of the game, the school year for the school our hero teaches at commences in April, it is likely that taking hiring, training, and moving internationally into account that the protagonist runs into "Kiosk Woman" at some point in early January. Lastly, we must figure out where this mall is. We aren't given much information about our American life, but we know that the mall at the beginning is "one of the biggest malls in America". Interestingly, the eighth largest mall in America is located in the greater Washington D.C. area. So now we must connect the dots. Our main character got dumped and fired in early January 2021 in Washington D.C. Why is our protagonist's life falling apart? Simple: we were a part of the January 6 Capitol riots. That would also explain how we can so easily uproot our entire livelihood and move to another country; the main character no longer wishes to live in Biden's America. On a serious note, Yuriko is the best waifu and the developer gave me a cute Makiko keychain for free. Soundtrack needed a song called "Crackas in Japan". Uso is absolutely adorable. Great game overall.
Absolutely fantastic game 10/10
Wholesome romance VN. IMHO VAs went above and beyond with their performance.
