Yeah okay, this sucks. The movement feels waaaay too fast, like atari movement. It's actually difficult to do basic things like climb ladders because you need to be stupidly fast to put in the inputs in the split second you have compared to other games. I'm not sure if this intentional or just a lack of effort put in to making the character feel fun to control. It's rare to encounter a game this retro, It brings down the whole experience to something I find miserable to play.
I think the game world will probably entice fans of a certain genre of sci-fi television and action movies, especially around the 1990's and 80's. Full Quiet is a thoroughly retro experience (even save file corruption, taking me back to the unreliable save battery in our Zelda II cartridge.) Knowledge gained helps speed things back if you lose your progress and having a notebook on hand is probably sane if not essential. Fans of the NES era of exploration (Zelda II, Metroid, Faxanadu, Star Tropics, Xexyz all come to mind), quality platforming (Bionic Commando) and even "point-and-click" adventures will be pleased, while the inclusion of modern game trends like the dodge roll make movement and combat feel very tight. There are some truly twisted mazes to be had, which encourage the player to make their own maps in addition to the ones provided in the game and manual. The puzzle solving is relatively accessible when you learn the format for how the puzzles unlock in each zone. Fans of La Mulana, and other secret rich games with their feet planted in the fertile past will surely enjoy, possible even wishing for the puzzles to be more esoteric. I'd rate Full Quiet around a 7.6/10 as it commanded my focus entirely for a week. Here's hoping for a fitting sequel!
I might change my review later, but I'm giving a pre-emptive angry negative review specifically for the blue walls of dung in this game that drag the game down into the abyss. I could tolerate literally everything else if it wasn't for these things. They ruin the game. I assume you get some way to defeat them faster later, but I've been forced to go through so many of these things already and every single time my arm gets tired from spamming the attack button. It feels like the game is artificially gatekeeping me to try and dissuade me away from certain paths. If you don't want me to go that way, then make the walls invincible. Jesus christ. Yet it feels like I am going the way I should and I'm just being forced through these things. This is pathetic as hell game design. I'll still keep going for a bit and see if it gets any better, but I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sick and tired of losing all my progress due to 2am sneaking up on me while I'm spamming the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ attack button. Also no i-frames after taking damage makes it so you can get chain stunned into ♥♥♥♥. Also hate the absolute ♥♥♥♥ out of the tentacle ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Edit: Just encountered some scaly swamp creature. I was able to beat the first one, then I beat about five more. Then, as I was getting very close to the 'well padded' point of interest, it threw one at me too close to defeat. As it turns out, this is a roadblock enemy again. I saw a review saying this game isn't open world, it's a metroidvania. Yeah. I get it now. It's not open world. It really is just full on metroidvania. Very bad. The worst part is that I wouldn't have gotten mad if I couldn't defeat the first fish monster since then it would clearly tell me to go elsewhere. But since I could, I managed to get rather far before the game put me into a position where I literally couldn't go further due to the mob. I just turned the game off and restarted it was that painful.
This is one of my favorite games after playing through it all For an NES homebrew, the platforming felt solid and so good to do. The puzzles were difficult at times but intuitive. The gunplay and combat is fine enough. The story was told in a unique way and was good as well. I would highly reccomend this game who wants to try a challenging puzzle platforming game. It is mostly a puzzle game then combat and I really enjoyed my time with it.
An incredible achievement. Full Quiet isn't just the best NES game ever made, it's a great game in general. Great controls, well-designed world, solid pacing, and a truly jaw-dropping attention to detail. Worth every cent of full price.
Greetings! The game looks and plays beautifully. But there is one detail that is likely to disappoint you. There are huts in the game, they are also save points. To get into them, you need to turn on the power. To do this, you need to solve puzzles borrowed by developers from the first Bioshock. And just godlessly complicated. Their solution is given catastrophically little time. You cannot exit the riddle screen. You didn't guess, you get damage. Solving one such riddle, it is easy to spend all the heal found. And it will be followed by a second one of the same. As a result, you may simply not reach the cherished preservation. This is an outright minus, which demotivates playing further. I hope the developers will fix it. In the hope of this, I give them a "Big like".
Highly recommended for fans of classic no hand holding game play.
♥♥♥♥ this game. It seems cool at first and then it blasts the difficulty into the stratosphere, especially with this section where you have to shoot these pillars that constantly regenerate while they spit out these snakes that keep dropping bombs as soon as they're above you. They're also moving at random speeds, so it's a crapshoot if you can figure out a good pattern. Once you defeat BOTH of those on the screen, the following screens are more versions of it. As far as I can tell, I have no other way around it. That section may be the single least amount of fun I've had playing a game in YEARS. Then it goes ahead and just deletes all three of my saves for no reason. Fantastic! Love it! It's entirely possible I'm missing some fundamental thing with that pillar section but I'm not going to get back to it to find out.
Full Quiet is a brilliantly crafted Metroidvania, blending a gripping story with intuitive, rewarding gameplay. Its brutal challenge is matched by polished design and a world that unfolds with satisfying depth. A true hidden gem.
This game is incredible. The controls are smooth, the music is great, and the gameplay is just straight up fun. I put a lot of hours in on the NES copy (there are cartridges for the NES for this too!!) but the Steam version plays very nice with a modern controller. Definitely worth checking out and definitely worth the price.
