You ever play a game that's janky, but you love it to bits regardless? Like, those 7.5 out of 10s with so much soul you'll sing their praises anyways? Yeah. That's the takeaway here. I've got four hours in the game at this point - It presents as a simple bump fighting roguelike. Then you discover the nigh unto Shiren tier throwables and varied gimmick firearms, along with a wide swath of unique usable items. A tight inventory limit means you can't carry everything at once, but a forgiving fast travel system means you can stack piles everywhere - Gotta get the dev to put in proper storage chests at those travel tubes... I digress. I've encountered a weapon that leaves water puddles when its done with enemies, hover boots that put you over specific elemental floor hazards, and a necklace that gives great heaping gobs of luck and prevents a couple zone's worth of status ailments, but creates hell on your buff timers through an interesting corruption mechanic if you stand in liquid. I've run into a drone constructing system that let me make a flying, aquatic diving acid sprayer with more HP than my tankiest build, and I very clearly have hit nowhere near the limit of the system. I've seen puzzles you'll have to figure out your own damned self across multiple runs, while still being CLEARLY communicated as to the rules in play. And a big door lock that wants you to bring back one of each identified potion-equivalent. I picked up an amazing utility scrapping item that let me BS my way past what I thought was just a lock, only to be brutally smacked down by an end boss in the first fifteen minutes of play, only to see exactly how that encounter is going to go, and get a real appreciation for the limits of the system immediately. There's meat on the bone here. Don't let the amateur art or interface throw you - this dev knows their rogue-like construction, and knows it well. I'm delighted to pay full price and strongly encourage you all to do the same.
Nothing like coming around a corner, noticing an enemy has spotted you and spending 5 minutes wonder what went wrong in your life to lead to this point. Works on the Steamdeck(with some slightly difficult controls). I recommend using the keyboard and mouse layout even though the game supports controller because of the slightly better cursor acceleration and the ability to use the D-pad for movement
Classic Dieuwt humor (if you have played his minecraft maps) with a large variety of items and enemies, and a recognizable art style in its own right. Definitely one of the roguelikes to ever exist.
Cool traditional roguelike in 2020s! · rare steampunk theme · delicate design of cogwheel & token system · special death-driven narrative - thought about Hades · distinctive bosses/mobs/items design - haven't seen them all yet! · immesive playing and fine sense of humor ----- one suggestion from my friend: hope the player can just bump into the monsters to attack them. mouse clicking is tiresome > <
I have no idea what I'm doing but I think I'm doing it relatively well and it's fun.
Pick up cool shirt and weapons, develop strategies, make people happy, whack small and big drones. Also have small arguments with your friend who just stares at his laptop all the time.
Honestly I wasn't expecting to have this much fun on my first purchase on this type of roguelike. I'm usually meh when it comes to tiles+roguelikes, but I think it's safe to say this one has me hooked for a while, and would probably keep me playing until I get the true ending. (almost there...) Item lores are incredibly interesting and give some clues about what's going on, the dialogues between the protagonist and other NPCS are quite funny. (Of course I'm not spoiling it, that'd ruin the fun.) I like the trading system of the NPCS and other machines lying around, you could just throw away things you don't really want (Like drone parts for bells that gives various effects, for example.) Traps are also interesting, bombs, or trap reclaimers that lets you get traps lying around and throw them onto your enemies. They could be used to solve puzzles, even. As you play more runs, you get stuff like hats, or boosts, or toolboxes that gives you a different playstyle and bonuses too! I like this part as it gives you options to play the game more defensively or offensively. I don't think I could cover everything this game has to offer, but I could say you will most definitely have fun with this one if you like roguelike even a little bit, or strategy games. would give it a 10/10 since I'm having fun.
A very fun turn-based roguelike with interesting turn "gear" mechanic. I've only scratched the surface but I am hooked. I mean, I just beat what I think is my first boss, only to die the very next turn from being on fire, how can I not do one more run? This game deserves more attention!
There's been a big update and most of my issues have been addressed, so here's my updated opinion. This is a good roguelike with a lot of cool ideas packed into it, and I'd recommend it to anyone familiar with the genre and looking for something new-ish and interesting. At its core the game seems to be about puzzling out the various systems, enemies, story and mechanics, and that's done well. It uses some novel and honestly great ideas, like the cogwheel at the bottom right, which are fun to figure out, and progression is literally and figuratively horizontal which takes most of the frustration out of dying due to experimenting or lack of knowledge. My only relevant complaint would be that movement and combat feel a bit clunky. Using a controller is very pleasant though, I wish more roguelikes would implement controller support.
it's witty, funny, maddening, poetic. It's Full Gear! Brings me back to my cherished earlier years with roguelikes. This game is something special. Has a family-run business feel to it.
Well, it could be more visually polished. It's hard to tell what is enemy or device or item. And I guess items are pre-made (not randomized except colors), which is somewhat disappointing. Still I had quite fun and unique experience.
