Conquer as much territory as you can with your hero and watch for the opponents or you’ll be destroyed. The opponents are evil and all they think about is destroying you by touching your path and expanding their territory by conquering larger space.

Warning: Asset Flip!
Frontiers.io is an asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated someone else's example/template/tutorial game, changed the name/reskinned a couple of things, and submitted it to Valve as if it was their own game. This time, Boogygames stole a basic Unity template for making a Qix (1981) arcade game ripoff, and reskinned it with stolen artwork from Final Fantasy (so we can hope Boogygames will be sued for this). Boogygames Studios have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:

"Hidden Object - Food" = Hidden Object Game Template developed by Puppeteer
"Hidden Object - Tools" = Hidden Object Game Template developed by Puppeteer
"Solitaire - Cat Pirate Portrait" = Klondike Solitaire Complete Game Tutorial developed by University of Games
"Case Simulator Weapons and Armors" = Yet Another Case Opener developed by NeraQuam
"Color By Number - Pixel Draw" = Pixel Art: Color By Number developed by Moana Studio
"MahJong - Medieval Fantasy" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
"Pixel Art Monster - Color By Number" = Pixel Art: Color By Number developed by Moana Studio
"Rainbow Duck" = Switch The Gravity developed by App Advisory
"Weapon and Armor: Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
"Loot Collection: Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
"Food Mahjong" = Mahjong Game Engine developed by SmallBigSquare
Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. The very poor quality of this game puts it squarely on-par with ancient 1990's Flash/Java games, and given it's 2023 (and this was released not so far back in 2017), gamers and the industry expect and deserve better than this kind of low effort shovelware. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. Frontiers.io is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, and the questionable ethical nature of the developer and/or their associates (as outlined above), this is impossible to recommend.
... ..... .... I could swear I am seeing Final Fantasy Black Mage in this game! Anybody else see it?
Frontiers.io is a colorful territory-capture game developed and published by Boogygames Studios that takes a familiar arcade concept and delivers it in a fast, accessible format. At its core, the game revolves around expanding your controlled area across the map while defending your own borders from rival opponents. The premise is simple enough for anyone to understand within moments, yet the constant threat of elimination creates an experience that remains surprisingly engaging. Every match challenges players to strike a balance between ambition and caution, transforming a straightforward mechanic into a tense contest of positioning and timing. The gameplay centers on claiming territory by venturing beyond the safety of your established borders. Whenever you leave your controlled zone, you create a vulnerable trail that must be connected back to your territory to secure new land. This seemingly basic mechanic forms the heart of the game's appeal. Expanding too aggressively can result in rapid growth and a commanding lead, but it also leaves players exposed to attacks. A single mistake or moment of carelessness can instantly undo progress, making every move feel important. This constant risk-reward dynamic keeps matches exciting and encourages strategic decision-making rather than reckless expansion. One of the game's strengths is the way it creates tension without relying on complicated systems. Players are always evaluating their surroundings, watching enemy movements, and searching for opportunities to either increase their territory or cut off an opponent before they can complete an expansion. Because success depends on awareness as much as speed, victories often feel earned. Even players who fall behind can recover through smart play, which helps maintain a competitive atmosphere throughout each session. The presentation complements the gameplay well. Frontiers.io embraces a bright visual style filled with vibrant colors and cheerful character designs. The graphics are clean and easy to read, allowing players to quickly identify territory boundaries and potential threats. While the visuals are not technically ambitious, they suit the game's arcade-focused nature and help create an inviting experience for players of all ages. The sound design further reinforces the lighthearted tone, providing satisfying feedback whenever territory is captured or objectives are achieved. To encourage long-term play, the game includes collectible gems and unlockable heroes that provide a sense of progression beyond individual matches. Unlocking new characters gives players additional goals to pursue and helps add variety to repeated sessions. These progression systems may not dramatically alter the gameplay itself, but they provide enough incentive to keep returning and experimenting with different hero options. The inclusion of customization and collection elements helps extend the game's lifespan beyond the initial novelty of its core mechanic. Despite its strengths, Frontiers.io remains a relatively focused experience. The game is built around a single central idea, and players looking for extensive content, narrative depth, or multiple gameplay systems may eventually find the formula somewhat repetitive. Its success depends largely on how much a player enjoys territory-control gameplay. Those who appreciate quick competitive matches and skill-based arcade challenges will likely find plenty to enjoy, while players seeking a broader strategy experience may wish for additional modes or mechanics. What makes Frontiers.io stand out is how effectively it transforms a simple concept into an entertaining and addictive challenge. The constant pressure of protecting your trail while expanding your influence creates memorable moments of triumph and failure alike. Combined with approachable controls, colorful visuals, and rewarding progression systems, the game succeeds as an easy-to-learn yet surprisingly engaging arcade title. It may not reinvent the genre, but it delivers a polished and enjoyable interpretation of territory-conquest gameplay that remains fun across repeated sessions. Rating: 5/10
I mean.. for 50 cents? I got enough playtime to see that there isn't really anything else to the game except an online version of Snakes. It feels like a school project that was put on steam. The games happen so fast that you sometimes aren't even sure what happened. The input lag is real... and overall.. I don't know if it was 50 cents well spent. I mean.. it's cheap, so I ain't refunding it.
