classic 90s game, very nostalgic, I used to play games like that all the time as a kid, it brings back good memories
Make a game called AirXonix and 24 years later someone makes a worse version of your game and sells it for $4.
a game from the childhood

Xonix Casual Edition is a free mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a paid product to scam PC gamers. As if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app is an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Qix (Copyright Taito Inc, 1981). Many lazy "amateur" developers don't pay attention to their obligations under copyright law, and often steal the ideas of actual, real game developers without credit, such as the "developer" here has done. At this stage no legal action has been taken by Taito Inc against the "developer" here, but it's never off the table, as previous copyright law cases have shown. Putting aside the unethical intellectual bankruptcy of stealing someone else's game concept for profit, this is also breaking that unwritten law of stealing other people's game ideas... you should at least try to do better than the game you're ripping off. Xonix Casual Edition is considerably worse than Qix. Sure, it's 3D rendered (badly) but there's nothing new or interesting about it. And the fact it's a ripoff is blatant. I had to go make sure HapGames wasn't some subsidiary of Taito or something, but they're not. In fact they branded this mobile app on the app stores as "Qix: Xonix Edition". Yeah, they're even ripping off the trademark as well as the rest of the IP. And that's probably our first of many reasons not to buy this... because it's blatant copyright infringement, it's likely this will get booted off Steam as soon as Taito finds out what's going on. From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The mobile app features low-polygon "retro" assets with cartoony, mobile app style shader effects, making this look like a barely functional mobile app from 15 years ago. This visual style is a method that lazy devs often use when they have a lack of interest/capabilty to create highly detailed, high poly models and instead use shader effects to disguise that shortcoming under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the mobile app. It's far below the state of the art visuals gamers expect as a result of their decisions. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the mobile app unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this mobile app is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality mobile app is to be expected. So, should you buy this mobile app? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this mobile app as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the mobile app (to date). Until this status changes, this mobile app will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this mobile app.
Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $7 USD, on app stores, it's free. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. SEVEN BUCKS FOR A FREE MOBILE APP. Who do they think we are?
There are no instructions re: fast move vs slow move. Who are the good balloons vs the bad? This might have been a good Qix clone if I'd been givin a clue what all the new "creature" were. And could only leave game with a Ctrl-Alt_Del only made it worse
Just a clone of a game from the 90s, but very poor quality. There is not even a button to exit the game. Definitely not worth it.
The game does not exit to desktop. You are stuck with the old alt del action. Unacceptable. I looked at the forum and saw over a year ago this exact problem was aired. Devs would look into it. Sadly that is untrue. I have been looking for this game for a very long time. So disappointing. And to add, there are only keyboard arrow controls! Due to devs leaving it unfixed re the forums ( take a look) they said they'd sort it and abandoned it. Blocked the developer. Absolute shambolic devs. Wouldn't trust them. They produce rubbish.
a pale imitation
reminds me of an old Qix from back in the day. more fun though, with different enemies to avoid, and more temporary power-ups to catch. graphics are nice, music could be better
Worth it if you like Qix! I got it on sale, but seems like decent value even at normal price. Gameplay is great, probably the best Qix clone I've played.
