The game is easy to recommend due to unique gameplay (and no competitors), but I feel like it's not worth the price. In fact if a single competitor with minor improvements comes out I think this game will stand no chance.
No settings or QoL features
Controls are clunky for no reason (other than maybe this being some sort of port). Map could be significantly improved. Special attack and interact should be decoupled and rebindable. Introduce borderless full screen. Maybe support higher resolution to reduce pixelation, because the game looks great in small screenshots and not so great when streched out on a big screen. This is a very convincing "old school" looking game, but there's a reason some of those old school design choices were left behind.
Poor roguelike randomization
There are things things that give minor in-run benefits and permanent upgrades. Permanent upgrades require solving puzzles, ALL of which so far simply required I have time-stop ready, as they were impossible without it. In run upgrades don't make dent on how I play the game. Example: Slightly bigger time-stop (resource prohibitive). Slightly longer time-stop. Slightly longer sword throw. Slightly bigger sword collection range.

Liked the game overall, would recommend playing with mouse + keyboard rather than controller because it's rather easy to accidentally jump to the wrong spot. The art is really exciting and vivid, the music really hypes you up. I really enjoyed the boss battles -- wish there were fewer rooms and more boss fights. Wish I could jump at a wider angle at times.
I have had many bugs that make the game unplayable happen to me. There is no save function so you cant even reload the game to try and fix the issues. It is a very fun game when it works but you will encounter bugs that ruin a great run. It is not worth the effort.
Amazing gameplay/combat, love it the references, dark atmostphere and vibe of old games!
meant to play frogger but got this instead, game rules
I'd never imagined a bullet hell that my turn-based loving self could enjoy, and here is FROGUE to completely change the game: a turn-based, roguelike bullet hell platformer that is very simple and very fun. I love the feeling of getting better at this game. I've only completed the first two areas so far, and the game isn't *perfect*, but I am genuinely impressed, and looking forward to seeing the rest of the game in action.
One of the game's strengths lies in its simplicity yet depth. While the controls are easy to grasp, mastering the nuances of movement and combat requires strategy and finesse. Each playthrough feels fresh and unpredictable, thanks to the procedurally generated levels that ensure no two runs are ever the same. Visually, Frogue is a feast for the eyes, with vibrant pixel art that brings its whimsical world to life. From the lush greenery of the forest to the murky depths of the swamp, each environment is lovingly crafted and brimming with personality. Coupled with an enchanting soundtrack that perfectly complements the on-screen action, Frogue immerses you in its enchanting atmosphere from start to finish. In conclusion, Frogue is a gem of a game that successfully blends the classic appeal of roguelikes with the endearing charm of amphibian adventure. Whether you're a seasoned dungeon crawler or a newcomer to the genre, Frogue offers an engaging and delightful experience that is sure to keep you hooked for hours on end.
