Frogue is a stylish turn-based action platformer with bits of roguelite, bullet hell and time manipulation. Dash through your enemies, freeze time and throw your sword to solve every situation in YOUR way.

An absolute breath of fresh air in the genre. In a veritable sea of uninspired Vampire Survivors clones, Frogue emerges as one of the most interesting stylistic mish-mashes in recent memory. Take Scourgebringer's map and zone progression, smash it with Dandara's movement system, process it through a puzzle-arcade filter, sprinkle in Symphony of the Night, and add just a dash of Crono Trigger, and you'd get Frogue. The disparate elements of Frogue shouldn't really work together, but they do, and the result is a game that defies categorization. The angular pathing you undertake to navigate platforms and attack enemies has a distinct puzzle/strategy feel, but the bullet dodging, combo timer, and quick procession of "turns" adds too much of an action feel to ignore. While Frogue does lean more toward the puzzle side, pure action fans (like myself) will still find the pace enjoyable. So far, it seems like overall content might be on the thinner side (from what I've seen, non-boss enemies are the same in both biome 1 and 2). Also, true to Scourgebriner (a clear inspiration in many ways), the upgrades aren't mind-boggling (you won't be getting any Isaac-style synergies here), which might limit replayability, too. Still, if you're a roguelite fan looking for something completely new, you may want to give Frogue a go! Edit: I just wanted to clarify that, while non-boss enemies are sometimes reused biome to biome, there are additional unique enemies for each new area (some of which have very unique mechanics). The more I play Frogue, the more impressed I am with its clean and elegant design. I am reiterating the recommendation!
EDIT: I had to change my review to negative due to the sheer amount of bugs I encountered in this game, most of them run ending. Keep in mind this game doesn't allow you to save during a run, so if you ever hope to finish it you have to do it in a single sitting. A whole run should take you anywhere from 40 minutes to over an hour, if you're lucky enough not to encounter a bug that is. There is unfortunately no way to get around most of these bugs. Your character can get stuck in an invisible wall, get stuck during a level transition, or the map generator will just straight up not create a "guardian room", making it impossible to get to the boss room and progress. Being an indie dev is no excuse not to playtest your own game. This game doesn't respect the player's time, and I just feel like I wasted my time on an unfinished product. --- Old review The gameplay is kinda novel, and once you get in the groove it can be really fun and rewarding. Unfortunately it also comes with a lot of frustrating aspects such as... - Unclear hitboxes - Unclear jump/throw range - Misclicks due to clunky aiming - Sword getting stuck when thrown in awkward angles - Sword not being picked up even if you're really really close - Slow enemy/attack animations not keeping up if you move too fast ... among other punishing stuff that often feels very cheap or unfair. Most annoyingly of all, this game has a lot, and I mean A LOT of run ending bugs, stuff like getting stuck and not being able to move or level transitions straight up freezing. Personally I much prefer their other title, Undergrave, but even with all its shortcomings Frogue has a lot of charm and can be a fun pastime for players that like to mix up turn based combat with quick decision making, especially if they have a high tolerance for frustration.
A masterful roguelike game of time and space. The game purveys its omnidirectional element throughout with its power-ups, enemies, bosses, and the ever-changing landscape of the rooms. For beginners, the game allows you to think out your actions before making them, allowing for a flexible learning curve for any type of player. However, as you get better, the combo system rewards players with health and mana that will be fundamental to beating the game. You’ll find yourself in the heat of a combo string, your mind rushing with multiple decisions and outcomes in the flick of a moment. With all these elements meshing together, the game never loses its steam. The New Game+ content will test your skills and experiment with different builds. My only complaint: THERE AIN'T MORE OF IT.
Despite being turn-based, you get plenty of adrenaline. Every move feels urgent and impactful. Ninja frog ftw.
literally just scourge bringer but turn-based and it is awesome
good
still need to play longer/beat the game, but this one is a really cool spin on turn based combat. feels like there's more "action" than other games in the genre and being able to stick to platforms in any orientation is neat. there's also still a strategy element that keeps things engaging and at a good level of challenge
