Frog Climbers is a simple party climbing game that's very light on content. The core gameplay is decent, you use both analog sticks to control your limbs and keep grabbing handholds and pulling yourself towards the top. Unfortunately this is pretty much the whole game. There's no online multiplayer and single player is extremely limited and gets boring really quickly without bots or any real goal apart from timed runs. I wouldn't recommend Frog Climbers unless you already have several gamepads and local friends to play the game with. With some more content this might have been a fun game. As it is, it's more of tech demo than a proper game. I received this game for free from a giveaway but this didn't affect my review. The good: - The climbing itself works reasonably well The bad: - Very light on content - No way to configure gamepad controls and no M+KB support - No 16:10 resolution support
I don't know why but I feel like I can break my controller easily playing this game. But seriously it's a good piece of arcade game and your hands and forehead are gonna get sweaty that's for sure. Very competitive and you gonna loose your mind playing with friend. Recommended for everyone especially those who like decent challenge.
This is a great game for couch co-op. It has great gameplay and all round laughs. The objective of the game is simple enough "climb to the top". There are extra options such as burning hands, low gravity, etc that add a bit of variety. there seems to be an infinite number of possible walls to climb. you can also try maps that are made up of wheels. I would avoid this game if you have: - no friends - No control pads - hate fun I would recommend this game if you: - Have friends - Have control pads - are looking for a fun party game Here is some gameplay footage of us trying it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9M2mFwL7QU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHt-gL9x-BM
"QWOP meets Mount Your Friends". I couldn't describe this game in any other way than being the pure essence of what a party game should be like. Fueled by rivalry in it's purest forms. If you don't hate your friends enough, this is the game for you 9.5/10
The game is very fun! A really cool local multiplayer game.
Pros:
+ controls are good + singleplayer + pick up and play + a lot of very interesting levels + a good challenge + 4 modifiers that change up the gameplay + daily challenge with leaderboards + if you fall you dont have to climb the whole thing again, you can start at about the same point + if a player is not fast enough, he gets a lift up, to still compete against others
Cons:
- the price is a bit too high for the amount of content - no level editor, which would have been great - the one arm challenge cant be completed on some stages - Im glad singleplayer is included, but its not much fun - no online-multiplayer A great party game to play with friends on the couch. The controls work great and the gameplay can get hectic and chaotic in a fun way. I laughed a lot of times and would recommend getting it in a sale.
General: Rating: E Price: $6.99 Genre: Local Multiplayer, Parkour? Time played: 18.1 hours Challenge your friends to climb a mountain. That’s pretty much it, select a frog and climb to the top faster/better than your friends. Gameplay - 7 You select a frog, so does everyone else. Then you climb to the top of the mountain. You control both arms of the frog and choose when to grab or release things. You can climb up using whatever you can find, vines with rocks, ledges, other frogs. Sometimes you have to use gravity to your advantage, swinging along to try and move up. It’s really a physics based game. Story - In the deep underground mines of the Walzoo Nebula, these frogs are training for the …. I’m kidding there’s no story. Graphics - 7 The maps can be randomly generated and are quite pretty. The frogs are well frogs. Some detail there etc etc. It’s okay at best. Controls - 5(controller) You need to use a controller since there is no keyboard support. Each analog stick controls an arm, and the shoulder buttons tell it to grab or release. Sometimes it works the way you want, but not always. Controls are wonky at times, physics seem off. Repeatability - 5 You can set up random maps and try them, there’s daily speed runs. But, without several people to play with it just gets boring. Music - ?? Was there even music? I think there was just background noises/sounds. Multiplayer - Local only. Initial Thoughts: Oh a local multiplayer game. I’ll get a few friends together and we’ll, no Bob had to cancel and Steve is probably picking his nose in a gutter. Just me and the g/f then. The controls are… odd. I tried playing with a steam controller and the right ‘analog’ was difficult at best. Soma Says: For the price, it’s okay. I mean you can have fun with a few friends, but it pales compared to some other couch games. Also there’s a bit of a cheat that my g/f and kids found out pretty fast. If you’re in the lead and about to move the other person off the screen and force them to fall. A ladybug will appear and raise them up, usually past you. My son just stopped climbing, grabbed the lady bug when she’d appear and then pass everyone on his way to the win. Of course the last 100? 50? yards/feet you can’t use the ladybug, but with enough of a lead from the ladybug it doesn’t matter. The game is fun enough but wait till it’s under 5 bucks to buy it. Frog Climbers is a very (painfully) basic game, but there is some fun couch co-op action to be had here in the right circumstances. Nothing worth revisiting beyond a few quick laughs, though. I got this game on sale for $0.21, and wouldn't recommend paying more. It's effectively a single small mini-game and quite far from meriting its own list price.
Fun game, but it freezes a lot. At least that’s my experience. It usually freezes after the first game then it runs smoothly. Wish there were more game modes. Race against A.I. on various difficulties or a ghost version of yourself. A mountain editor would be cool. Are there any big future plans?
Solid game for local coop fun, the only thing this game needs is a proper multiplayer hosting option (since people may see lag with Steam Play Together). But otherwise, Frog Climbers is a fun test of skill between friends, and can be casual fun since there are comeback mechanics if you fall behind (which would be nice if there were some hardcore options for this). Either way, great game for the fun you will have 👍
